sundays are for alex

Summary:

Olivia and Alex share an (not so) awkward moment on Liv's couch that leads to more.

Notes:

Made for the Women of SVU Week on Tumblr. Prompt: First or Accidental Kiss

Work Text:

Sunday nights were for Alex Cabot and Alex Cabot only.

It wasn’t easy for them to meet during the week. Both of them had very demanding jobs and Olivia had a son to take care of too. But they managed to have Sunday just for them.

Olivia would send Noah to a friend’s house, ask Amanda and Carisi to have him for the day, or even give Peter a call when Noah was in the mood to play baseball like old times

And then Alex would come over or she would go to her place. They wouldn’t do much, actually. Just catch up on the week’s topics, cook together, maybe go out to get a coffee, watch a movie, or even just do absolutely nothing.

As long as they spent the day together, it didn’t matter what they would do.

This Sunday was too cold outside so they decided to stay in, snuggling on Olivia’s couch while watching some cheesy romantic movie and drinking a delicious hot chocolate made by Alex.

When the movie comes to an end, Alex’s head is resting on Olivia’s shoulder and she’s clinging to her arms. A very light snore comes from her and as Olivia takes a look she sees Alex is fast asleep, completely relaxed and warm in the nest she made with her blanket.

She notices Alex’s grasp is loose though and her chocolate is cold forgotten on the coffee table. She must’ve been asleep for a while.

Olivia takes the time to appreciate their closeness. If she lowers her face just a little bit she can kiss the top of Alex’s head. And it takes all her strength not to.

Alex mumbles something and stirs, and before Olivia can even register the movement, she looks up. The space where Olivia had been considering kissing a split second ago is gone and instead she’s facing Alex’s mouth now.

The sudden movement catches her off guard and their lips accidentally brush. Olivia is so in shock she is frozen in place, anxiety bubbling up inside of her.

Alex straightens up a little, never moving farther from Olivia, never taking her eyes off of her.

They stare at each other for a moment.

Olivia wouldn’t dare to move.

But Alex would. She keeps her hand under the blanket now firmly holding Olivia’s arm and brings the other one to cup her face, bringing it closer to her until there’s barely any space between them.

“Is this okay?” Alex asks in a breathy whisper.

Liv feels like her brain is in short circuit and can’t collect her thoughts. She shakes her head lightly while simultaneously leaning in and closing the gap between them.

Alex smiles when their lips touch, this time deliberately kissing her, yet holding back so much, afraid of opening her eyes and finding out this was just a cheesy movie induced dream, or that Olivia would regret this immediately once she comes to her senses.

But Olivia seems to be functioning again, not frozen, not afraid. She frees her arm from Alex’s grasp under the blanket, slides around her waist and pulls her even closer.

They pull apart for air, but barely, their noses still touching. They’re both beaming, glowing, a spark in their eyes that was lit two decades ago now shine more than ever.

“Well…” Olivia says panting. “Now what?”

Now ,” Alex giggles and gently holds her face. “Are you finally gonna have balls to ask me out or will I have to do all the work here?”

Olivia smirks. “I guess we’re not going anywhere tonight, honey.”

She goes for another kiss, this time deepening it without any restraint.

There was so much they wanted to do, so much time to make it up to.

But they would have time. They would always have Sundays.

Because Sundays were for Alex and Alex only.
