Work Text:

“FUCKING SHIT!”
kenma yelled, kicking at the trashcan under his desk. he was about to throw his controller off somewhere until the door to his recording studio opened. the gamer froze as he stared at tetsurou through the camera on his screen, the taller just pausing completely and immediately rubbing his eyes.

“s.. sorry- uh- wrong room…-”

“kuro?”
kenma turned around with his whole office chair, but by the time he did so, his best friend was gone and the door was shut harshly behind him. the shorter blinked, staring at the door like a confused puppy.
“what the fuck...?”

kenma bit the inside of his cheek as he turned back to the camera and gulped nervously. he didn’t know what to do. he had never been good at empathy and comforting others, even when it was his own best friend.

“should i.. go check on him?”
he looked over at the comments on his twitch stream. some were screaming random nonsense, while others were telling kenma how sad tetsurou looked just now.
“do y’all reckon he was crying..?”

Alibabe donated $10!

Go get your mans kozume!! HIS VOICE WAS LITERALLY SHAKING 😭!! PLEASE COMFORT HIM!!!!

Grrwoof donated $15!

KODZUKEN ITS OK GO AFTER HIM PLEASE!! HE WAS CLEARLY SAD!!!

nightmarixx donated $20!

does he usually walk into rooms blindly like that??

kenma read a lot of the donation comments in a hurry, shaking his head slightly at one of them.
“kuro’s usually really coordinated. even when he’s half asleep, he would never walk into the wrong room by accident… not to mention he’s been living here for five years..”
kenma sighed softly and got up from his chair.
“stream’s endin’ early tonight, guys, my partner is more important. i promise to extend tomorrow’s stream as a compensation!”
kenma said in a hurry and gave his usual two finger salute, before ending the stream and running off.

kenma carefully and slowly walked into the bedroom he and tetsurou shared. the cat-like male had made them a cup of hot chocolate each, having remembered that his “soulmate”, as tetsurou referred to it, really liked the beverage. he sat down on the edge of the bed next to the nightstand, putting both mugs down. he then shuffled closer to the other male, who had been lying curled up under the blankets, shaking violently as if it was -30°C in the room.

“kitten?”
kenma called out softly, reaching over and gently shaking his friend by the shoulder. he hated seeing tetsurou like this. not just because he sucked at comforting him, but also because, although the other was generally really emotional, it was difficult to upset him to that level.

upon not receiving a response, kenma crawled up on the bed and pulled the blanket off of his still probably crying housemate, tho only enough to see his face.
“hey.. kitten..”

tetsurou finally looked up after a moment of hesitation. not long after just staring at the shorter, he fully turned to face kenma and reached his hands towards him.

“you’re like a child..”
kenma commented and chuckled softly, grabbing both of tetsurou’s hands and intertwining their fingers together. he then carefully laid down beside him.
“what’s wrong?”
the shorter asked in a soft tone. he knew his soulmate would like to tell him, so he didn’t bother asking if he wanted to.

“my mother died.. just got the news.”
tetsurou said, voice barely above a whisper.
“apparently it was drug abuse.. they couldn’t really save her.”

“kitten.. im sorry.”
kenma whispered and kissed the top of one of tetsurou’s hands.
“she was always mean to you, tho, and would hit you and stuff.. so why.. are you sad?”

“i grew up with her, ken. i have some decent memories of her. plus, feelings like that.. they’re hard to explain. it’s just that she was a big influence on me, i suppose, so…”

kenma stared at him for a moment, then smiled a little.
“well.. if she was important to you, then you can cry all you want. im not the one who should judge, honestly.”

tetsurou nodded and let go of kenma’s hands, then shuffled closer and just nuzzled against his chest and the soft material of the hoodie he was wearing.

“you’re the best.”

“im glad you think so, kitten.”
kenma snickered and ruffled up the ravenette’s messy hair.
“i got us hot chocolate?”

“huh?!”
tetsurou immediately shot up, startling kenma. he just grabbed his own mug, tho, and pressed it against his cheek, immediately melting into the warm feeling.

“weirdo.”

“shut up, ken.”

kenma laughed and picked up his own mug as well, then got comfortable in a sitting position against the pillows. tetsurou immediately laid down with his head on kenma’s chest and just curled up, intertwining their legs in some weird knot that kenma was going to struggle to get out of later. that was most likely the whole point, but still, kenma would whine about it later when he actually had to get up.
“movie?”

“avatar!”

“that american movie with the blue cat people?”

“they are NOT blue cat people!!”
tetsurou protested and huffed, sipping his drink loudly on purpose.

“doesn’t the main character have this basic ass name, too?”

“kenmaaaaa!! stop shitting on my favorite movie, okay? it’s really good!”

“right, okay, sorry, kitten.”
kenma laughed and kissed the taller’s forehead. he then reached for the shelf in the nightstand and picked up the laptop, before setting it on his lap and turning the movie on quickly.
“you owe me an apple pie.”

“right, of course.”
tetsurou chuckled and hummed softly. he knew kenma wasn’t the most affectionate person, so he figured he’d have to cherish the moment for now.
“hey, ken?”

“what is it, kitten?”

“is it weird to say that i don’t want you to ever leave me?”

“nah. i like spending time with you. you respect my boundaries and you’re funny. i think, if it were anyone else, i wouldn’t be as happy.”

“really?”

“promise.”
kenma smiled a little and let out a barely audible chuckle,
“now, watch the movie, dumbass.”

“wow, no kitten anymore? i see how it is.”

“shut up..”
