Byleth sighed as she pulled on her wyvern’s reins. The armies of the Adrestian Empire, The Kingdom of Faerghus, and the Leicester Alliance were all converging towards Gronder Field and it would soon become a three-way war of carnage and death.
The former professor set her noble mount down behind Alliance lines and sighed again as Claude jogged over to her, bow in hand. “So, I guess this is it huh? Something tells that Kingdom forces aren’t here to talk.”
Byleth frowned and shook her head sadly. She didn’t think that they were either.
All around her, former students were preparing for battle. Dorothea and Ingrid were quietly talking amongst themselves; Hilda was sharpening her axe blade with an unusually intense look on her face, Mercedes, Lysithea, and Flayn were grabbing healing staves, Raphael and Yang were putting on their gauntlets while Ruby and Blake were readying their bows and swords alongside Leonie and Felix.
“The Boar is mine just remember that,” Felix growled as he twirled his sword and then made a cutting motion with it.
“As long as you remember that the Schnee traitor is mine. Weiss will regret betraying Faerghus.” Blake snarled back as she put her bow and quiver on her back before she sheathed her sword.
Byleth felt a pang of sadness as she heard Blake’s declaration. While Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang were all at the Officer’s Academy they had all become fast friends even though the four of them were from two separate nations. Ruby and Yang from the Leicester Alliance, and Blake and Weiss from Faerghus.
Blake and Weiss had known each other since they were children and had grown up together in King Lambert’s court alongside Crown Prince Dimitri, his bodyguard Dedue, Felix, who was heir to house Fraldarius following the Tragedy of Duscur, Sylvain Gautier heir of his house, Annette Dominic, heiress of her house, and Ingrid.
Felix, Ingrid, and Blake had joined the Golden Deer house at some point during their schooling at the Officer’s Academy for various reasons, but they all each gone to Faerghus when war broke out. When Cornelia announced that the Kingdom was now an Empire vassal, they had all left. From what Byleth understood, Blake had visited Weiss and been told that she was loyal to the Adrestian Empire now.
The horn sounded and everyone stopped what they were doing, the battle was about to begin. Everyone grabbed their weapons and headed to the front.
As they stopped, a few fireballs landed in the ranks of the Kingdom and the Alliance alike.
Byleth’s eyes widened a bit and she heard a few gasps, and a snarl, as Prince Dimitri emerged from the Faerghus lines. He didn’t look good, his face was pale and haggard, his armor was unkempt, and his hair was long. An eyepatch covered one eye as he glared at everyone in front of him as he spoke, his voice loud and full of hatred.
“Know that I will tear your heads from your shoulders. The dead must have their tribute.” He swept his spear over the field.
Claude just sighed and before he stared right at Dimitri. “You know, as far as big class reunions go… this has got to be the worst in history.”
“Once, we fought here as classmates… but no more.” Edelgard looked almost sad before Dimitri adopted a feral grin.
“Kill every last one of them!” The prince charged as Claude ordered them forward with a wave of the hand. Felix beelined towards Dimitri while Blake growled and made her way towards the Empire’s forces.
Both of them had a score to settle. They both had a target and would stop at nothing to take their lives as a magical fog settled on the land.
Using that to her advantage, Blake snuck behind enemy lines and killed all those who stood in her way. She cut them down swiftly, and without mercy, mercy would only get her killed and she couldn’t die. Not until she killed the traitor that used to be her best friend.
The ebony-haired young woman had just killed a mage when she felt something arc over her head. She whirled around and glared at Weiss.
“It’s been quite some time… Blake.” Weiss’s white hair matched the ethereal fog as her blue eyes were full of sadness.
“It has been… but not long enough for me to forgive you for your betrayal.”
“I was protecting my brother, my mother! Father would’ve killed them otherwise!” Weiss exclaimed but Blake was silent for a long while.
“It doesn’t matter now, whatever your reasons you are still a traitor.” Blake hissed.
“Then what does that make you? Or are you really going to call me a traitor while wearing Leicester colors? Your parents would be ashamed of you.”
Blake’s amber eyes widened and she let out a snarl before steel met steel. The former best friends clashed on the foggy field, years of fighting together meant they knew each other’s tricks, strengths, and weaknesses and they both knew that their opponent knew.
Each felt their sword rip into flesh and they could both see that their opponent was dripping blood onto the grass.
Even when the fog eventually cleared because the caster was slain, they continued to fight.
They fought for who knows how long until they had to break apart because a feral Dimitri barreled into both of them, arrows in his back and his hand over a large wound in his side.
“Edelgard, I’ll kill you… I’ll kill you!” He chased after the retreating Adrestian Emperor until he collapsed. The remaining Empire forces pounced on him and impaled him with their spears.
The Crown Prince of Faerghus was butchered where he lay. A Boar to the end it seemed.
Blake knew it was under-handed, but war was war. She used Weiss’s distracted state to pull out her bow and fire an arrow right into her throat.
The white-haired young woman gurgled before she fell over and started to choke on her own blood. “Goodbye, Weiss… traitor.” Blake grabbed her sword, wiped off the blood, and walked away.
She didn’t look back at the corpse of the person that she used to call her best friend.
