Work Text:

“Minamoto-senpai, good luck!” Nene cheered to her friend Teru before ending the phone call. Even though she knew that Teru doesn’t need good luck, he always finishes his mission with precision and skill.

As of now, Teru is one of the most contracted agents in their agency due to his numerous counts of successes to every mission he’s been assigned to. Of course, his fame brought danger to his life and family, but no one would even dare to do anything against him.

He doesn't even know what brought him into this business. All he could remember was, a man had contacted him after his tournament for kendo, and with a promise of a good future, he was taught with everything in relation to being a perfect agent. Guns, knives, bows, martial arts, even acting. You name it, he can do it.

There were times when he regretted joining the agency due to his family. His parents don't know about it, nor do his younger siblings. All they knew was that he joined a ‘club’ at his prestigious school (to be honest, what club requires for your kid to be away at abnormal times?) but no one even questioned him. Their precious Teru wasn’t a liar.

Even though how many times he had lied to them, the feeling of guilt strikes his heart whenever his family got put in danger due to his unnatural job. He once got a call from Kou about someone following them and Tiara, and for days after that, he can’t forget the fear that Kou has in his voice (he took care of the bastards that went after them both, how dare them).

But there’s no taking it back. He agreed to it, and for it, he was in this agency for life. Leaving would result in him being erased off the world, and he would not like to take his chances.

Minamoto Teru still has missions to do.

And for his new one, he landed in Japan (coming from France) a few minutes ago, a new mission delivered to him by Yashiro Nene, one of the secretaries in the agency.

Information says that a corrupt organization would be planning to crash an important satellite to the ground to steal the hard drive in it. The hard drive contains vital data to the corrupt organization and their sinister plans, so taking it before the organization could shut them for good.

Each mission wasn’t that easy. This particular one requires him to be on his guard, as Kamome Agency barely managed to protect their servers before the corrupt organization attacked (aka ‘hacked’). This means that the organization already knew that they would be coming here, so he needs to take extra precautions. He already knew the place where the satellite would crash (by predicting it based on its trajectory) so all he needs to do is watch over the exact same place.

He placed his shades on top of his head as he walked out of the airport, casually pulling his suitcase.

“It’s time.”

♪♪

Sakura, their hacker, told him that the satellite was predicted to drop off in a forest near a festival which will be occurring for 3 days. So why not use this chance to have fun himself while waiting for it to fall?

He walks around the booths, admiring the design of each of the prizes that they display. Maybe Tiara would like one of these…

He stops in front of a booth where the plushies are the cutest. By the looks of the set-up of the booth, it’s a dart game. He pulls some coins from his pocket and calls out to the owner of the booth where a redhead is fixing the arrangement of the toys. “Hi! Can I buy 3 darts?”

The redhead immediately turned around and Teru stopped in place. “Oh! 3 darts? Wait…” The worker shuffles around the shop, trying to find where he had placed the collection of darts that would be used. Based on how he’s acting, he looks like he just started setting up this tent.

But that’s not what made Teru freeze. This worker… he’s cute.

Wait what?

Teru jolted when he realized what he was thinking just a minute ago and shook his head aggressively. No, don’t go there, Minamoto! You’re on a mission, not looking for a date!

Meanwhile the redhead just stared at him weirdly. This blonde was his first customer, after all, and he needed to be nice. He awkwardly placed 3 darts in front of the blonde and cleared his throat. “Sir… Darts?”

“Oh yeah, sorry…” Teru laughed slightly and took the darts. He stared at them for a while before a genius idea sprung up in his mind. For once in a while… he feels a bit daring today. His agency wouldn’t even find out anyway. “Hey, cute worker… Wanna have a little game?”

“Are we close?” The redhead responds, whose face adapted an irritated expression. Teru was taken aback for a while because of how quick the worker changed moods. “Whatever you’re planning, that’s not gonna work. I’ll just take that bac--” The redhead tried to snatch the darts back but Teru was quick on his movements and moved his hands away, making the redhead growl and cross his arms.

“Hear me out…” Teru squinted his eyes at the worker’s name tag. “Akane.”

“Aoi.” The cute worker -- Akane -- corrected.

“Fine, Aoi. If I hit that small balloon in the center, would you allow me to take you out on a date someday?”

He needs to give him a good first impression. Agency be damned, he's on a personal mission: gaining a date.

Akane sighed and moved aside. “Do it. But I think you’re going to fail because there is no way you can hit a balloon that small--”

With a flick of Teru’s hand, the dart zipped through the air near Akane’s ear which stunned him. The redhead watched as the focus on Teru’s face turned into a smug smirk. This guy… he’s something else. He slowly turned to look behind him, his eyes widening as he saw the dart pierced on the board at the exact location of where the balloon was supposed to be.

Yeah… I think I’ll probably see this guy again. Akane thought.

He looked back again, and was met with the glowing blue eyes of the stranger. “Thanks for the future date, Akane.” And it looks like this guy was thinking the same, too.

Teru placed back his remaining two darts and walked away, hands raised in a wave as Akane continued to stare at him from his place. A thoughtful look appeared on the redhead’s face.

“Minamoto Teru…”

♪♪

The next day, Teru goes back to the festival. He’s on a call with Nene, talking about ‘Akane’ who he met the day before. “... And I’m going to meet him here again, for a date.”

“Is that so? Nice, Minamoto-senpai!” Was Nene’s reply. “But don’t forget about your mission, Sakura-chan has detected a weird behavior from the satellite. He’s predicting that it would be dropping around tonight.”

“Well, at least my date with Akane is this morning so--” He stops abruptly. He barely heard the confused calls from the other side of the call as he stared at the empty place where Akane’s stall used to be. With a frown, he calls out to a staff nearby. “Excuse me, Miss? Where’s the stall placed here yesterday?”

“Stall around this area? Yesterday?” The staff looked bewildered. “I’m sorry, Sir. There’s no stall here yesterday.”

“Well, do you know ‘Aoi Akane’ then?”

“Aoi Akane?” The staff laughed sheepishly and bowed in apology. “Sorry Sir, we don’t know someone with that name…”

Teru could only stand in place as the information passed through his mind. His focus returns to the call he’s on. “Minamoto-senpai? What’s wrong?”

“I think… my date got cancelled.” He replied with a vague tone. Nene laughed and talked about how nervous it made her that Teru ignored her in the middle of a conversation for a guy that just ditched him. But that’s not what is bothering him. If Akane doesn’t work here and there’s no stall here in the first place…

… then who was he talking to?

♪♪

Teru ran through the thick trees, careful to hide his trail. He dashed towards the forest as soon as he felt the little earthquake that signified the crash. He was still a little grumpy and angry at the supposed ‘date’ earlier, as he now thinks that ‘Aoi Akane’ was just someone from the corrupt organization to watch his movements, given that they knew that he was here because of the attack on the servers.

He cursed himself. Why did he let his guard down around a cute boy whose name probably wasn’t even his real name?

Teru glimpses a light and a bit of metal in front of him. The satellite! He skids to a stop and hides behind a tree nearby, watching his surroundings for any traps or hidden enemies. After figuring that the coast is clear, he enters the wrecked opening of the satellite, hoping that he wasn’t too late.

He entered the main room, where the location of the hard drive is. And as soon as he enters…

… he sees a redhead hacking the computers, numerous monitors flashing binary numbers as his fingers rapidly brushing across multiple keys. And with a ‘ping!’, the redhead removes the hard drive from its casing.

“I don’t think that hard drive belongs to you.” Teru coldly declares from his place, his gun pointing straight at Akane’s head. Static beeps from the computer emerged after removing the hard drive.

The redhead didn’t move, indicating that he knew of Teru’s arrival all along. “It doesn’t belong to me, I know.” He turns around, emotionless eyes staring back at Teru’s glowing ones. “Don’t worry, I’m helping you. Nice to meet you again, Minamoto Teru. And stop pointing that gun at me.”

The blond’s grip on his gun tightens. “And why should I trust you, ‘Aoi Akane’?” Teru ignored his statement. How could he believe him? He knew he should do his mission already and stop asking questions like this but he felt like it was the time. “Give me that hard drive.” But ‘Akane’ only shook his head in denial.

“Don’t worry, Minamoto. I’m not going to give this hard drive to the organization.” ‘Akane’ gave him a scowl. “I said, we’re allies.” He pressed on, voice sounding irritated.

Teru grits his teeth. He had already visualized the situation in his head. He’ll come in, grab the drive, get out. How is ‘Akane’ an ally anyway? For all he knew, he could be a member of the organization himself. Why is he so insistent--

The windows on the satellite break instantly, and Teru could say that he was not prepared for the next thing that happened. The redhead used the incident to wrap his free hand around one of Teru’s wrists and pulled him behind a door, hiding themselves from a female agent from the organization that just entered the room.

“Where’s the hard drive?” She stopped. The windows are all broken, the room is a mess, and there is definitely no hard drive inside. “Damn it!” The agent cursed before going out the room, most likely going to call for backup. From behind a door, ‘Akane’ sighed and was about to stand up when he realized that Teru’s gun was still pointing at him.

“What are you planning?” Teru knew that by how the woman acted earlier, ‘Akane’ definitely wasn’t with the organization. But still, he can’t be too sure. Is Akane also after the hard drive?

“Look, Minamoto-san, I just have the luck to have the same mission as you.” Ah, so he was right. “However, you are being extremely doubtful of me and that will hinder my pace, so I suggest for us to work together to finish this faster. Yes?”

However, Teru still doesn't trust him. Ugh, Akane growled inside his head. He regretted trying to help the other, but he can't take whatever he did anymore.

‘Akane’ rolled his eyes and grabbed the hand that was holding the gun. “Sorry for this, Minamoto-san. I can’t work with a doubtful ally.” And with a quick move, he stole the gun from his hand before dropping it to the floor.

“What the--” Before he got his words out, he felt a pain at the back of his head before his body fell down.

♪♪

“No. 1?”

“Yes?”

“You’re thinking of failing the mission of securing the hard drive, aren’t you.” Akane huffed at her statement. Aoi really knows him well.

“Yeah, I do.” He said and stared at Kamome headquarters from a tree. In front of the entrance was Teru’s unconscious body, and a hard drive on his hand. After knocking him out, he escaped the satellite and left him there. “He’s probably gonna pester me on it if we meet again sometime in the future. He probably takes failed missions to heart. I don’t mind. And we still have that date.”

“The agency will get mad at you again, you know.”

Akane smiled and jumped down. “I know you won’t let them.”

♪♪

Teru stares at the cashier incredulously. “You’re--”

“Surprise?” Akane waves a lazy hand from the counter. After getting another call from Aoi for a new mission around this area, he had immediately infiltrated the place. But when he saw Teru coming, he gritted his teeth. Don’t tell him he and this dude are having the same mission again?

The phone in his pocket vibrated. He immediately pulled his phone out and stared at the message.

‘I hope you’re liking this new one. >_<’

And below the message, was a picture of Teru Minamoto with the words Eliminate.

Ah, so not the same mission then? The redhead sighed in relief. He didn't want to exert effort for another mission, that's the reason why he failed every mission the agency gave him.

Teru was just lucky that he was so interesting for Akane to actually try and help him.

And of course, with his track record, he'll fail this one too.

With a shake of his head, he pocketed the phone and smiled at Teru. “Are you still up for that date?”

With the suspicious gaze the older gives him, he smiled geniunely. Yeah, he’ll fail this mission for sure.
