Work Text:
Kara stood a few feet away from the woman who owned her precious heart, just enjoying the view.
Lena’s dark hair fluttered in the soft summer breeze, tickling the back of her elegant neck. She was resting on a hammock in the shade of a large tree. Kara could only see her back from where she stood but by Lena’s posture, it was apparent the brunette was reading a book.
It had been 263 days since Kara had last seen her wife. And now, after so many days apart, she was too excited and giddy to be able to move from her spot. Lena hadn’t noticed her yet. She looked so peaceful, so beautiful and soft; such a sharp contrast to the horrific images of the war zone the blonde had left.
Lena used to spend most of her free evenings on a hammock under the tree they had planted together a long time ago, enjoying the late summer sunsets. It brought her some kind of calmness.
Sometimes she would knit or just watch the clouds and birds. Today she was reading a book she had recently bought, desperately trying to take her mind off of the fact that it was her wedding anniversary and she had no wife to spend this meaningful and wonderful day with. The mere thought of it brought tears to her eyes and made her heart painfully clench.
Suddenly, Lena heard a timid sound behind her and turned her head so quickly that she almost got whiplash.
“Kara!” She cried out and fell off the hammock, trying to get up in a hurry.
Kara happily beamed and ran to the brunette to help her up. Immediately, Lena wrapped her arms around Kara’s waist and buried her face in the love of her life’s neck, inhaling her sweet scent. Kara always smelled like home to her. And then Lena began to sob with relief that her wife was in her arms safe and sound.
“You’re here. You’re home. You came back to me.” Lena whispered in the blonde’s ear, squeezing her tighter and had no intention to let go.
Being able to hold Kara again after so many months apart, not knowing if she would ever come back, was the most amazing thing to Lena. She hadn’t felt so content since the day her wife left to defend their country and people. They embraced each other for about twenty, maybe thirty minutes and Lena’s heart swelled with so much love for this amazing woman, she was lucky enough to call her wife.
Eventually, Kara slightly pulled back and cupped Lena’s face in her soft, warm hands. She tenderly caressed her cheekbones and looked at her with such adoration and love in her azure eyes that Lena wanted to cry all over again. And at this moment, Lena surged forward and sealed their lips in a long-awaited kiss, feeling their souls become whole again. The kiss was soft and warm, full of love, like the very first kiss they had shared 6 years ago.
After a long moment, they moved onto the hammock, still unwilling to let go of each other. Kara lied down and Lena climbed on top of her but froze when she noticed Kara winced slightly.
“What is it? What’s wrong, my love?” She asked, eyes wide with worry and fear.
Kara sighed and began to tell her about past events.
“… and then the bomb went off and the force of the explosion threw pieces of metal in my arm and ribs. I was given proper medical treatment but was unconscious most of the time and that’s why I couldn’t contact you for a while. Right after recovery, I was sent home. I’m pretty much fine, just a little sore. They told me to attend physical therapy for my arm and I’ll be all good.” Kara finished, giving a small smile.
“Oh my god!” Lena choked out, feeling a new wave of tears. She was so close to losing the most important person in her whole life and didn’t know what to say. Instead, she opted to hold Kara tighter, being careful of her injuries.
“I’m fine, baby. Everything is okay. I promised I would come back to you and I did. You were in my mind every single day and that’s what kept me strong and sane.” Kara said. “I’m home now, for good.”
“For good?” Lena gasped, not believing it. She had always admired Kara for being so selfless, brave and eager to help others. But allowing herself to be a little selfish, all she ever wanted was to have her beloved wife by her side all the time.
“Yes, my love. They discharged me and I got enough money for us. So, now I can stay with you forever and I don’t plan on going anywhere without you again.” Kara replied, a huge smile on her face.
“I love you so so much, baby!” Said Lena and peppered kisses all over her wife’s face, making her giggle. Happy smiles never left their faces.

The next day, they invited all their family and friends over for a little celebration. When the news that Kara was discharged and was going to stay home for good, the married couple was not the only one smiling from ear to ear. They all laughed and talked until late into the night. No one wanted the happy moment to end.
Finally, everyone returned to their homes and it was just the two of them - Lena and Kara. Lena started to clean up, but Kara gently grabbed her wrist and turned her around to face her, soft music playing in the background.
“We have plenty of time to do the cleaning later. Let’s just enjoy the moment. Dance with me, please?” Asked Kara with a tender expression that filled Lena with warmth and happiness.
“I would love nothing more, my darling.” Lena replied, wrapping her arms around her wife’s shoulders. Kara put her hands on Lena’s waist and began to sway slowly to the beat of the music.
“I can’t describe how happy I am now that you’re home with me. I love you more than anything, Kara Zor-El.” Lena murmured.
And as Kara looked at the love of her life in their home, smiling at her, she couldn’t think of any other place she would rather be.
“I love you too, Lena Zor-El. More than you can imagine.” Answered Kara, nuzzling her love’s hair. “Always and forever.”
“Always and forever indeed.” Giggled Lena as she buried her face in the crook of Kara’s neck once again, her favorite spot.
And for the rest of their lives, they held onto each other steadily, bringing one another a sense of home.
