Work Text:
It was a rainy day, heh, Nagito never liked those. They always filled him with despair, just like he was right now. The white haired boy asked himself: "Why am I filled with such despair? I really AM trash, aren't I? Hahahahaha..." He could feel his eyes start to swirl as the self deprecating thoughts took advantage of him.
Suddenly, he heard a knock on his door. "Nagito? Are you in there? Nagi-" The familiar brown haired boy walked into his cottage, since of course trash like him forgot to lock the door. Hajime Hinata, one of the most hopeful people he's ever seen, he was so filled with hope he wanted to cry of joy, but right now, the spiral eyed boy's tears were filled with despair, not hope or joy. "Nagito, a-are you ok?" The ahoge boy asked, unsure. "O-of course!" Nagito replied, "Someone as hopeful as you shouldnt worry about someone as worthless as me." Hajime told the hope fanatic that he wasn't worthless and proceeded to ask why he was crying. "Well I... I don't know, really, hahahaha..." The lucky student replied l. It was true, he didnt even KNOW why he was crying so, why? Why, why why why-.
Before Nagito could continue questioning himself, Hajime wrapped his arms around his body, "Shhh, it's fine, Nagito, you're fine." the brown haired boy said calmly, "Calm down, please..." Nagito couldn't even hold back his tears anymore. He would always wonder WHY Hajime chose to care about him, but, for now, they were alone, in their own world, with no worries, only calm and Nagito decided to take advantage of it and breath in and out. He calmed down, because being with Hajime allowed him to, and he knew the smile the ahoge boy would give him after would be more hopeful than anything he'd seen today.
And that made all his efforts worth it.
