One bright day in japan, Tokyo, a school bell rang, signaling the end of the day, and many students flooded the exits outside to rest for tomorrow's session. Behind the crowd were two girls with different colored hair, the one with long blue hair was named Yuko Asou, a sweet, gentle young girl. The cherry-red short-haired girl was named Reiko Kirishima, a lone lost soul in the world, who had studied very hard, Yuko and Reiko were best friends since childhood during second-grade school, but life had been quite rough for Reiko, as it felt like yuko was the only person she could talk to in her life.

"hi, Reiko!" greeted yuko "great day today, huh?"

"It sure is..." sighed Reiko

"Hey, what's wrong?" asked yuko

"I just wish things were better..." said Reiko. "I just wish mom and dad would actually love me..."

"Reiko, I'm sure they do love you..." said yuko softly

"but they never show it..." sighed Reiko "nothing I do is enough for them; I hardly get any love or respect from them..."

"Reiko, I'm your friend," said Yuko, having noticed how Reiko had distanced herself a few times before "if you need anything, you can always talk to me."

"Thanks...but I don't know..." sighed Reiko, almost sporting a slight scowl

"Reiko, I'm always here for you if you need me," said yuko

"Thanks..." sighed Reiko "well, I guess we should be going now,"

"Okay! See you tomorrow! Reiko!" said yuko as she then left for her home.

"see you! yuko!" waved Reiko as she walked towards her home as well, almost feeling hesitant to return to her home

As she walked, Reiko thought about how her day went and began to look back on how rough her life was and how she wished it could be much better. She was born into a high-class wealthy family, but they hardly showed love or interest for their daughter. Reiko's mother and father hardly ever got along with each other, they tried to raise Reiko the best as they could, but in the end, it wasn't enough,

" how much harder do I have to work to earn mom and dad's love and respect? " angrily thought Reiko to herself.

As a consequence of her family's actions, Reiko studied and worked very hard throughout her life to get the acceptance and love of her family, almost entirely neglecting her social life. However, unable to gain such approval, Reiko developed a hatred for her family, and by near extension, the world itself, but in the end, if it hadn't been for yuko, Reiko would have grown up to be a loner. She just wanted acceptance and love, a true family...

" well, at least, I can talk to yuko...but will it matter?.... " thought Reiko as she looked down on the ground.

but then suddenly, Reiko heard a voice ring through her head

" Reiko...Reiko Kirishima... " the voice spoke, 

"What!?" gasped Reiko as she looked around and then suddenly feeling like something was gripping her negative emotions "who's there!? show yourself!!"

" I am here.... " the voice spoke again. Reiko then moved closer and closer to a spot where the voice had been calling her, and then suddenly, the world around Reiko shifted around her into a parallel dimension,

Reiko's new world looked dark and mysterious, almost as if an eclipse was overtaking a mysterious and hostile world. She stood atop a rock plateau, overlooking the ground that was covered by darkness.

"Where am I!?" asked Reiko, her face turning to a scowl,

suddenly, a dark menacing figure loomed over her. It wore a large dark blue hooded robe that covered its entire body. The figure also wore gold double shoulder guards and a gold mask for a face with dark yellow eyes and a horn-shaped crown piece with a red jewel in the middle. 

"you are in the dark world, also known as Vecanti." answered the figure before Reiko

"w-who are you?" snapped Reiko,

"I am Rogles," he said, "emperor of the dark world, vecanti and someday soon, the ruler of the parallel worlds of the dream world vanity and reality as well."

"Why am I here?" asked Reiko, demanding answers

"because I have chosen you," said rogles, "you are to become the dark valis warrior, to serve me."

"to serve you?" said Reiko, and then started to feel an invisible force reshaping her mind and emotions and felt the light and darkness within her struggle for dominance "for what?"

"to destroy the oncoming threat to my rule," said rogles, "your friend yuko asou is being chosen to become the valis warrior to collect the fantasm jewels, the mystic power that feeds the dream world."

"and why do you need me?" asked Reiko 

"you are to become my dark valis warrior," said rogles "serve me, and lead my minions into the real world, and destroy yuko before she has a chance to receive the sword of valis!"

"my best friend yuko?" asked Reiko, almost feeling entirely dominated by a dark spell. It seemed that rogles was working his magic behind the scenes.

"yes, she must die!" said rogles "nothing must interfere with my plans for conquest!"

Reiko was about to protest, but then, she felt compelled to obey the dark king who stood before her, and then suddenly, a slim long, rapier sword with a red handle and had a red gem in the middle of the top handle, 

"This sword was crafted from the negative emotions within you. Hold this in your hands, and you will have power," said rogles, "the power to enact revenge on all those who have left you neglected and lead my armies to victory!"

Rogles' words struck a dark part of Reiko, and she complied as Reiko gripped the handle of the blade. Her appearance changed to a dark bikini-like armor with black shoulder guards and black boots, and a skirt dress. Reiko had also worn a dark blue headband and a dark blue scarf as she felt her negative emotions finally overtake her.

"Excellent!" boomed rogles, satisfied with his work "rise! dark valis warrior Reiko Kirishima!"

Reiko then stood up fully, holding her sword firmly in her hand.

"Now, each of my generals holds a central piece of the fantasm jewel," explained rogles, "which is the source of vanity's positive energy. I have stored it all within that stone and have shattered it, giving a piece to each of my generals throughout vanity. By doing this, I have upset the balance of justice throughout the three worlds and have given my armies the means of conquering the parallel dimensions of vanity and the real world itself."

"and where do I come in?" asked Reiko,

"with you," said rogles, materializing the gem towards Reiko, "I entrust the final piece of the fantasm jewel to you."

"very well," said Reiko, picking up the final piece 

"and now, Reiko, here is my first command," said rogles, now going over his plans for the human world and yuko "you are to return to the real world and wait until tomorrow, on that day, you will greet your friend, yuko after that, let my minions do the rest as you lead them."

"and if that fails?" asked Reiko.

"should your minions fail and yuko acquires the sword and enter vanity," said rogles, "you and your minions are to follow yuko and destroy her by any means necessary. She must not assemble the fantasm jewel, do you understand?"

"yes, master rogles," said Reiko, a sinister grin forming on her lips 

"Excellent," said rogles, "now go, return to the real world which is soon to be conquered."

Reiko nodded as she vanished back to the real world, back to her prior appearance, and walked back home, an ominous darkness within her eyes as the light within Reiko seems to be trapped within her,

Reiko had been unloved by her family. Her mother and father had been quite neglectant of their daughter due to their problems with each other and the wealthy power they held in their hands, yuko was her only true friend since childhood, and now the dark emperor rogles had brainwashed Reiko, amplifying her negative emotions and offered her a proposition, to become the dark valis warrior and lead rogles' armies in the real world and to destroy her best friend against her will.

And now, as yuko and Reiko's worlds are about to change forever, their friendship will be put to the ultimate test...

The author's notes this valis fanfiction will be the first one in over a decade and commemorate with the series' upcoming 35th anniversary. In this AU, I'm going to make sure yuko will break rogles' spell over Reiko, and they fight together against him in an act of redemption!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted about this story for months! I haven't updated this story in such a long time because I was afraid I wouldn't get much support for this fanfiction because of how little Valis is Known and that people would not care because they don't know it or are just not interested since we all fear what we don't understand,

I still can't believe it's been 35 years since the first Mugen Senshi valis game was created.

I'm writing this small pace for my belated celebration of valis' 35th anniversary, which came in the form of a past game collection for the Nintendo Switch released on December 9th, 2021 in Japan, which includes the PC engine ports for Valis The Fantasm Soldier. Valis II. and Valis III in honor of 35 years of the series! Please be on the lookout for a western release on January 2022!

I've been interested in valis for a long time as a kid since I saw a longplay video about it's PC-Engine port. I especially felt terrible for poor yuko, the valis warrior, when she was forced to fight and reluctantly kill her best friend, Reiko, who was willingly brainwashed by rogles using Reiko's hatred for her abusive family against Reiko to join the dark king's side as his enforcer and the dark valis warrior. I've seen the other sequels of the series of Valis, but that was years ago... before I started writing my first stories on here.

but recently, the series' upcoming 35th anniversary re-sparked my interest in the series and sparked my motivation for this story, not only to bring more love to the mediocre valis series but to also save Reiko by writing an alternate ending to yuko's first adventure in vanity the realm of dreams in the old game Mugen Senshi (Fantasm Soldier) Valis's PC engine and sega genesis ports

Personally, I don't know if this story will go beyond that, but who knows? Maybe I will if I'm motivated!
