Work Text:
TK: (As he jumps from out the driver's seat of the ambulence.) Today's been an easy day huh Nancy.
Nancy: (As she jumps out the passenger side, but less enthusiatically.) Yeah
TK: (Noticing the look on Nancy's face.) What's wrong.
Nancy: The call we just had was near the restaurant that Tim and I had our first call with Michelle. It just brought back memories. It was a little girl that got hit by a car while she was riding her bike. The driver stayed at the scene. He was upset and worried for the little girl. I remember how Machelle tried to calm the driver. Tim was talking to the little girl trying not to make her too scared about the situation. Tim found a way to make her laugh. We realized the little girl's leg was broken but she was going to be ok. Tim always wanted to reassure the injured that everything was going to be ok.
TK: I wished I got to know him better. He seemed like a great guy.
Nancy: (She sits down at the table.) Yeah. He was.
TK: Paul is going to cook his famous fettuccine alfredo for the station. He promises everyone will like it. (He gives a childish grin.) Would you like to join us?
Nancy: Yeah sure I'll be up later.
TK: (He walks over and puts his had on Nancy's shoulder.) Each day will get better. I know lots of things will remind you of Tim. That's why we put his name on the ambulence so he will always be around like he is still part of the team.
Nancy: Thanks TK.
TK: You're welcome Nancy.
(TK walks away as he leaves Nancy sitting at the table. She is daydreaming about all of the different calls her, Machelle and Tim had over the years. She is so into her thoughts that she doesn't hear Tommy calling her name)
Tommy: Nancy. Nancy. Earth to Nancy! (At this point Tommy is shouting.)
Nancy: (Startled, she snaps back from her day dream.) Sorry Cap. What's up?
Tommy: (Looking concerned) Are you ok?
Nancy: (Trying to act like something was in her eye but she was actually wiping a tear away.) Sure Cap. I'm fine.
Tommy: (Not believing her, but not wanted to push the issue, she sits next to Nancy.) I didn't mean to ease drop but I heard you talking to TK. I know you miss Tim. We all do. But I think he would like for you to try and not be so sad all of the time.
Nancy: (While giving Tommy a confused look.) Do you think I'm sad all of the time?
Tommy: (Thinking of a better way to phrase it.) I don't mean all of the time per se, but there are times when I look at you and you have this sad far away look on your face. That's all. I don't mean to offend.
Nancy: (Feeling embarrassed but a little surprised.) I'm not offended. I didn't realize I was doing that.
Tommy: (Still with a concerned look on her face.) Yeah. I couldn't help but notice it. Do you have any hobbies or do you go out with friends?
Nancy: I really don't have any friends. I pretty much work and go home and watch movies. But I am learning how to play the guitar. (She gives a half smile to Tommy.)
Tommy: (While grinningat Nancy.) That's cool. Learning how to play a guitar. One day you're going to have to give a concert here at the station. (Nancy begins to blush.) But I'm sorry you don't have any friends. Hopefully you will consider the 126 not just work associates but your friends, your family. So you don't have a significant other?
Nancy: Not at the moment. I did have a boyfriend but he turned out be an assailed. So we broke up.
Tommy: Would you like to have dinner at my house. I know you tested negative for the Station's most recent Covid test. My husband is going to make beef bourguignon, andouille pudding, oven roasted asparagus and apple cooler.
Nancy: (Her eyes widened as Tommy described the dinner Charles would be making.) Wow that sounds delicious.
Tommy: (With a huge grin on her face) It is delicious. Charles loves to cook. With the restaurant still being closed because of Covid-19 he only gets the try new recipes on me and the girls.(Letting out a huge laugh) He will love to cook for someone new. You don't mind being a guinea pig do you? (Tommy say jokingly.)
Nancy: (With a huge grin on her face.) Of course not.
Tommy: That's great. I'm going to text you my address. Dinner starts at 7:00pm. Oh. And after dinner we can watch a movie. How does that sound? Charles and I have most of the streaming services. (Tommy starts to roll her eyes and then laughs.) Just when we said we weren't going to sign up for another one, a new one come outs. (Nancy shakes her head in agreement.)
Nancy: Yeah. There are a lot of them out there. Anything I should bring?
Tommy: No. You don't have to. Just bring yourself. (Both of them start to laugh.)
Nancy: OK. (Tommy gets up and starts to walk away, but turns around to look at Nancy)
Tommy: You're going to have a great time. I promise. (She gives Nancy a wink then turns around and walks away.)
(Nancy is at her apartment trying to think about what she wants to wear. She starts to talk to herself without realizing it.)
Nancy: I'm thinking to hard about this. It's just dinner and a movie at Cap's house. Its no biggie. Why am I stressing like this? Because when was the last time you were at someone's house for dinner Nancy. Even before the pandemic you didn't get out much. (Nancy is trying do decide between a blue or pink blouse. As she stands in front of her floor mirror.)
Nancy: I know I need to get out of my apartment more when I start to have full conversations with myself. (Nancy looks in the mirror with a sarcastic look on her face.) You're doing it again. Ugh!!!
(Nancy pulled up in front of the Vegas house. She put the gear in park. She took a deep breath then exhaled.)
Nancy: You're going to have a great time just relax. (She inhaled and exhaled again. While she looked at the bottle of wine she brought with her. She knows Tommy said she didn't have to bring anything but herself, but she remembers her Grandmother telling never go to someone's house empty handed. So she brought a bottle of Chardonnay.)
(Nancy rang the Vega's doorbell. Tommy answered the door)
Tommy: Hi Nancy. I'm so glad you came. (Tommy reached out and gave Nancy a warm hug. Nancy closed her eyes and she smelled Tommy's perfume. It smells so good to Nancy that she didn't realize she was still embracing Tommy after Tommy let go. Once Nancy realized she let go. Both smiled awkwardly. Nancy handed Tommy the Chardonnay.)
Tommy: You didn't have to bring that.Thank you so much.
Nancy: No problem Cap.
Tommy: None of that Cap stuff. We're off the clock. Just call me Tommy. (Nancy begins to blush but hoping Tommy doesn't notice it. But she does.)
Come on in. (Tommy gestures Nancy to come into the house.)
(Tommy escorts Nancy to the dining room. Tommy puts the wine on the table then she heads to the kitchen to tell Charles Nancy has arrived and that she brought wine.)
Tommy: Babe, Nancy is here and she brought wine.
Charles: Good. Dinner is almost ready. What type of wine is it?
Tommy: Chardonnay.
Charles: Oh. I like her already. (While grinning at Tommy.)
Tommy: I knew you would. (While looking at Charles in a flirtatious manner.)
Charles: Maybe we should jump straight to dessert. (They both laugh then Charles gives Tommy a kiss.)
This is going to be a fun night.
(Charles and Tommy bring out the food to put on the table. Nancy noticed there were only three place settings.)
Nancy: The twins aren't joking us for dinner.
Charles: No. They're at my Mother's house for the weekend. It's just the three of us. (Charles winks at Nancy while she blushes and looks at her plate. All of the food has been brought out and they're all eating. Tommy thinks it's too quiet so she asks Nancy a question)
Tommy: Nancy, what type of movies do you like? (Nancy enjoying the food so much that she looks up in response to Tommy covering her mouth because it's full of food. Trying not to chew her food before she answers.)
Tommy: Nancy. Nancy. Earth to Nancy! (At this point Tommy is shouting.)
(Nancy is sitting at the table at table at the station. She has been there the whole time. She hears Tommy calling her name and that awakens her from her daydream.)
Tommy: (Looking concerned) Are you ok?
Nancy: Sure Cap. I'm fine.
Tommy: Oh. Ok. Just checking. Charles wants to test out some of his new recipes, if you don't mind being a guinea pig, (while smiling) do you want to stop by my place for dinner around 7:00pm? (Nancy tries not to look surprised at Tommy's request but she feels like déjà vu.)
Nancy: I don't mind. I would love to come.
