“You know—really, Kat, you’re like a daughter to me.” Olivia leaned on the bar at Forlini’s, resting her chin in her hand. “I—I’m old enough to be your mother, aren’t I?”
“Captain, you’re not,” Kat giggled out, finishing her third beer, “no way could you be my mom.”
“Rollins! Rollins,” Olivia reached for the blonde as she walked in, “Tell—tell Kat I could be your mother.” She sipped her drink and raised an eyebrow. “Go on, tell her.”
“My—I think you mean hers, and you’re not that old, Liv,” Amanda sighed, shaking her head. “You’re feelin’ it, huh?” She grinned, settling on the stool beside her friends.
“Sure are, Amanda,” Kat said, nodding appreciatively to the bartender for her next beer. “Found Cap sitting here alone; thought I’d keep her company.”
Amanda ordered her drink and watched Olivia nurse her own. “Liv, are you gonna make it home alright?” Olivia didn’t normally get like this; she’d seemed fine that afternoon at the precinct. This was completely out of the blue.
“I’m—yeah, the train’ll be fine…” Olivia blinked slowly as a blissful smile crept onto her face. “You two worry too much, I’m a big girl.” She rested her chin in her hand again, drumming her fingers idly on her cheek. “I’ll be here.”
“Well, big girl, we have every right to be worried about you,” Kat shot back, putting a hand on Olivia’s shoulder. “C’mon, we’re gonna take you home. Together.”
“Seriously?” Olivia laughed, swaying slightly as she straightened. “If you’re so worried, I’ll… I’ll just go; it’s fine…” she mumbled, attempting to get to her feet. “Oh… wow.”
“Oh, no ma’am,” Amanda said, chuckling, “we’re going with you. You’re in no shape to be going anywhere by yourself. Get some water; we’ll leave soon.”
Kat paid both Olivia’s tab and her own, and the trio was on their way to the next train stop they could find. “Liv, where’s your MetroCard? In your wallet?” Amanda asked as they approached the turnstiles.
“Yeah,” Olivia sighed, fishing in her coat pocket. “It’s… yeah, in here somewhere.” She produced the wallet with a cheer, grinning. “See? I told you I’m fine.”
Amanda nodded and glanced over to Kat. “I swear this isn’t, like, a regular thing. She never gets like this.”
“I’ll take your word for it,” Kat said, nodding. “You know where she lives?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. She knew the squad always called each other “family,” but she hadn’t realized they’d meant it.
“Yeah, um, for safety.” Amanda shrugged and looked down the tracks. “And, uh, sometimes her nanny watches Jess and Billie.”
They lucked out soon after and found a train with open seats, collapsing into them together. Olivia wrapped her arms around Amanda and Kat, pulling them close. “You two… mean so much to me. You know?” Her head lolled to the side, and she grinned at Amanda, “I never had any sisters.” She turned to Kat with the same smile. “I got sisters with you two. And nobody fucks with my family.”
