Work Text:
Morning huh?
Gen sat up from bed. It was a Friday morning. Gen was expected to be woken up by his alarm but instead, he was woken up by his kids running about. Gen reached for the other side of the bed to wake up Senkuu but he wasn’t there. Gen felt around a bit more but nothing. Only the warm spot where his husband should’ve been.
“Dad! Hurry up!” Gen heard his daughter, Chelsea, cry. “Papa would have had our lunches ready by now,”
“Well Papa is sleeping,” Gen heard Senkuu respond.
Gen tried to muffle his lucid laugher into his pillow. As sweet as Senkuu could be, it wasn’t like him to let him sleep in like this.
“Dad will auntie Kohaku and auntie Amaryllis be here?” Suika asked.
Huh? What would Kohaku and Amaryllis be doing in Japan?
One of Senkuu’s step-sisters and her wife. Kohaku, unlike Ruri and Senkuu, had stayed back in the states. So why would she be coming to Japan? They only make that trip for stuff like Christmas.
“They should be,” Senkuu replied. “Here,”
“Have you told Papa yet?” Suika asked.
Now Gen was intrigued. Gen didn’t hear Senkuu respond but heard Suika humm.
Trying to keep a secret from your husband huh Senkuu chan?
“We’re off, bye Dad,”
Gen sat up from bed and checked his alarm. Yup, turned off as he’d thought.
Senkuu chan, what are you hiding?
A knock at the door broke Gen’s thoughts. The door opened and there was Senkuu all dressed and ready for work.
“Don’t tell me you slept in Gen,” Senkuu scoffed.
“Oh like that wasn’t part of your plan dear Senkuu chan,” Gen grinned. “So what am I not supposed to find out about?”
Senkuu sat on the bed next to Gen. “I’ll tell you later dear ,” Senkuu teased.
“Oh not fair,” Gen collapsed on Senkuu’s shoulder. “The kids get to know I don’t?” Gen dramatically whined.
“Not much of a surprise if you told you,” Senkuu remarked.
“Fine then,” Gen lifted his head off Senkuu’s shoulder. “I always did like surprises,”
“I know, now get dressed. You don’t want Nikki to call and ask where you are, do you?”
“Oh shoot! Nikki chan will kill me if I’m late to the book signing!” Gen fumbled off the bed. “Why’d you turn off the alarm Senkuu chan! Ahh Nikki’s going to be so upset!” Gen rushed around, getting off his nightwear and into his normal, given extravagant, clothes.
“Ughh I’ll have to rush the makeup in the car,” Gen grabbed his makeup bag and headed to the front door in a rush. Senkuu followed him but not running like Gen was. Gen got on his outside shoes and was ready to go.
“You jerk,” Gen turned around and lightly kissed Senkuu. “You owe me you know,”
Gen rushed out the door bag in hand. He was not going to hear the end of this from Nikki.
“Gen, I asked you last night if you were going to be on time and I remember you saying yes,” Nikki scolded Gen. “And no mentalist tricks,”
“Sorry Nikki chan, really, I did remember. My alarm didn’t go off and I slept in accidentally. I’m so sorry,”Gen apologized.
Nikki and Gen were in the backroom as Nikki was trying to fix up Gen’s rushed makeup.
“You’re lucky I’d guessed this would happen so I was able to push back the time a bit,” Nikki sighed.
“What how? I thought-,”
“I had a few words with some staff members,” Nikki smiled. “But you’ll have to apologize like crazy to them you understand?” Nikki hit Gen upside the head.
“Yes, yes, I promise,”
“Good, now stay still,” Nikki was fixing up Gen’s eyeliner. “Promise you’ll never do this again,” Nikki sighed.
“You’re surprisingly lenient today, did something good happen today?” Gen asked.
“I guess you could say that. I got something going on after work today,”
“Ohh care you tell me?” Gen inquired.
“Maybe later, right now though you have something you need to do,”
“Right right,”
The signing had gone over nicely. Only a few crazed fans but less than normal. The signing was longer than he thought, but that stuff happens. What Gen was less pleased about was the paparazzi still there. Gen was back in the backroom. Nikki said she had something to do and left already. Gen, on the other hand, wasn’t in the mood to deal with paparazzi. Normally that was Nikki’s job.
“Might as well get it over with,” Gen looked in the mirror and sighed. “Here we go again,”
Gen stepped out of the back room and out of the doors. Like he thought. A bunch of flashing cameras.
I used to enjoy this?
“Mr. Asagiri,”
“Mr. Asagiri this way,”
“Mr. Asagiri, are the rumors true you might be seeing your manager?”
“How do you respond to the recent claims that you have kids?”
“Hey hey now, do I really seem like the type to settle down?” Gen slyly remarked. “Please,”
“What about that report from Houston?”
That caught Gen off guard. He and his family just came back from Houston a week ago…
“A bit of homesickness that’s all,” Gen was still trying to walk to his car.
“You were seen with Scientist Senkuu Ishigami and his kids again”
“An old friend who missed his folks too,”
Of course, this happened. He thought Houston would be a nice place to go to get away from it all but seems he was wrong,”
“Some are drawing comparisons between the blonde child and your managers, thoughts?”
“Nikki and I’s relationship is only professional,” Gen replied “Now if you excuse me,”
Gen got into his car and turned on the ignition. The swarm of gossip rag reports moved out of the car’s way as he backed up.
Ohhh if only they know. Nikki and Minami would kill me if I said anything though.
Gen made it back to his house with a cola he’d pick up at the convenience store. The paparazzi really drained a bunch out of him. Right now he just wanted to forget all the questions they’d asked him. Gen noticed something though. Senkuu should be home or at least the kids should be, but the lights in the house were off.
What are they doing? This part of Senkuu’s surprise ?
Gen was hesitant but walked to the front door. It was still locked so that was a good sign. Gen flipped on the hallway lights to take off his shoes. Gen was half expecting Suika and Chelsea to jump him, but nothing.
“I’m home!” Gen called as he slipped on his house slippers.
“Papa, in here!” Suika called from the other side of the door.
Gen pushed open the door to the main room. Still dark, Gen couldn’t see a thing.
“Suika? Chelsea? Senkuu chan? Are you hiding?” Gen called into the darkness. “Senkuu chan I swear -,”
“Happy birthday Gen!” The lights flashed on and out popped friends and family. Gen looked wide-eyed at his house. There were balloons with hurriedly drawn faces, cake, a gift table, and drinks.
“It’s my birthday?” Gen asked without thinking about it.
“Ha told you’d forget,” Kohaku chuckled.
“With all the work the station has been having him do I’m not surprised,” Nikki added.
“Papa!” Suika and Chelsea came running at him.
They nearly knocked Gen over with how much force they’d crashed into him with. Gen pat the two girl’s heads. “Aww did you guys set this up for me?”
“Yup!” Suika beamed. “It was Dad’s idea to get everyone here though,”
“Heck, even made me and Amaryllis fly over,”
“Don’t listen to her, she was more than happy to fly over,” Amaryllis corrected.
“You should’ve seen her on the way here,” Ruri chuckled.
“Going on and on about how excited she was,” Chrome chimed in.
“Wha- hey!” Kohaku playfully snapped.
“Aww Kohaku chan you softy,” Minami sang.
“Thanks, guys,” Gen smiled.
“Ohh ohh blow of the candle first!” Chelsea begged.
“Have you eaten dinner yet?” Gen raised an eyebrow.
“No… but the cake looks really tastyyyy,”
“Oh really now?”
“Ya chocolate sponge cake with buttercream,” Suika added. “We picked it ourselves,” Suika seemed so proud of herself...
Gen looked up and Senkuu who sighed. “Only for tonight,”
“Dibs,” Chrome called.
“Hey Uncle! No fair,” Chelsea rushed over to stop Chrome. Suika not far behind.
“Happy birthday,” Senkuu kissed Gen’s cheek. “Here’s your surprise,”
“Best husband ever,” Gen hummed. “Getting everyone here too. Mustn’t have been easy,”
“It was planned weeks ahead of time,”
“And here I thought today was going to be a pain,”
“ Paparazzi ?” Senkuu asked.
“Later,” Gen took Senkku’s arm and wrapped it around himself. “I want to enjoy this moment a bit longer,”
