Chapter Text

A nice cool autumn day, not too sunny but not too cold either. GCU looked beautiful at this time of year, the orange and red leaves made a beautiful contrast to the brick that lay all throughout the school.

Of course the only thing ruining this day for most students was the fact they had to attend classes.

By the school day is over, most students are tired, too gassed out to show even a little bit of enthusiasm. This was the truth for most students, except for one. Even at the end of the day Emma could be seen running through campus to get to her classes.

“Excuse me! Oops! Sorry about that!” Emma ran past some students, leaving behind a trail of people she had bumped into. Looking down at her phone for the time, she sped up slightly, ‘I can’t be late! I have perfect attendance so far this semester!’ she thought as she made her way up some stairs.

Finally she came to a sudden stop at the doors of the lecture hall. Emma gave an exaggerated sigh and opened the double doors. “You’re late,” Emma looked down at her professor and gave an awkward smile.

Enter: Peter Ratri. A quantum physics professor here at Gold City University. He and the others in the Ratri Clan practically ran the school, both in terms of teachers and students. Peter happened to be on the more lenient side of teaching when it came down to it. To say he’s strict would be an understatement. In the end however, he always acted with everyone's best interest in mind.

Emma looked at the digital clock that hung above Prof. Ratri and it read 5:31, “I’m only a minute late!” she protested. Prof. Ratri gave a sigh and adjusted his tie, “Take a seat Ms. Mikhaylov.”

Prof. Ratri continued his lesson as planned until his 2 hours of teaching were over. “Okay class I hope you all paid good attention today. Even though it is Friday I will require you to hand me an exit ticket as you exit the hall. You must include at least three sentences going over what we learned and one to two sentences explaining its role in quantum theory.”

“HUH?” Emma caught the attention of a few other students, including one sitting in the row above her. She put her head in her hands in defeat before pulling out a piece of paper to write on.

Twirling her pencil in her fingers, she couldn’t think of anything. Lost in thought she suddenly felt someone tap her shoulder from behind.

Turning around she took note of the person who had got her attention. She had purple hair and purple eyes- both very unusual even though Emma herself had her own unique features.
She also took note that she was wearing a long coat, suitable for this time of year.

“Hello?” At this Emma stopped examining the person and instead noticed that she was holding out a small piece of paper, giving it to her. Emma quickly grabbed the paper and written on it was a quick summarization of what Prof. Ratri had gone over, but no explanation on how it fit with the theory.

You see the problem wasn’t that she wasn’t smart, Emma could figure anything out if she really needed to. She just didn’t really pay attention. You could give her a puzzle that’s missing all the edge pieces and she’d still get it done. So when she saw what was on the paper she had immediately put two and two together and wrote her answer down on her sheet of paper.

Folding her paper in half she got up and stretched out her arms, “I guess I better thank you,” Emma looked back at the row behind her only to see the girl was already gone. Getting up from her seat she quickly made her way towards the door.

“Here Professor!” Emma grinned and placed her exit ticket in his hand. Prof. Ratri scanned the paper for a few seconds and then spoke, “Alright you’re free to go, have a good weekend, and don’t forget to-”

Before she could even hear the end of what he was gonna tell her she was already out the door. Normally since she was in no rush to get anywhere after her last class she’d wind down and just walk back to her dorm. But not this time. This time she had someone to find.

“She couldn’t have gotten too far, class just ended!” Emma careened around a corner and that’s when she saw it, the same unusual purple hair. She slowed her pace as she jogged up to the side of the person that had helped her, “Hey!”
