Hallis popped the bubble he blew out with chewing gum and brought it back into his mouth to continue chewing. He was a little anxious, his leg bouncing and hands messing with the edge of his sweater. It was rare he was left alone these days since Goto had gotten hired by his family and it showed when the other wasn’t near him.
Blowing another bubble, he let it pop before repeating the process a few more times. Eventually he stopped and sank back into the chair heavily, frowning a bit. The anxiety was starting to creep higher and was making him start to pick at his sweater, his leg bouncing faster. Maybe he should have just gone with them into the meeting. He was in a safe room off to the side of his mother’s office that even Goto had deemed safe enough to leave him on his own.
But after a good hour or so, Hallis was more than a little anxious and starting to get bored. Pulling out his phone, he scrolled through his social media apps again and replied to a few messages before letting it drop on his chest. The leg bouncing started up again and he reached into his bag for the pack of gum to get a new piece, spitting the old piece into the wrapper to toss into the bin nearby. He almost missed it and winced before sighing as it finally fell in.
The new piece caused him to start back up with blowing and popping bubbles sporadically. It was the only noise in the eerily silent room. Realizing he could play some music on his phone, he quickly found something and let it randomly shuffle through his playlists as he tried to get himself to relax again.
It wasn’t until the fifth song before he realized he had started chewing along to the beat and he laughed quietly to himself, swaying side to side with the music now. He was so lost in the music that he didn’t hear the door to the room opening until he was looking around and his eyes locked with Goto’s. Jumping, he grabbed his phone and paused the music and pouted at the other heavily.
“You could have said something.” Hallis huffed, narrowing his eyes at his bodyguard.
“You should have been paying attention.” Goto was quick to scold, stepping into the room quietly. “Meeting’s over. You ready to go?”
“Have been for a while now.” Hallis sighed, slowly uncurling his legs from under him with a wince. “How long was that?”
“Two hours.”
“Two hours?!”
Goto raised an eyebrow at the other. “Yes, two hours. Did you fall asleep?” He asked as he gathered up Hallis’ stuff.
“No I uhhh...guess I zoned out while chewing...gum…” Hallis said slowly, almost sheepishly. He watched Goto pause and slowly look at him. “Shut up.”
“I didn’t say anything.” Goto shrugged as he straightened up, holding open the door for Hallis to walk through.
“No, but I can hear you laughing at me.” Hallis muttered, quickly slipping past the other but was swiftly grabbed by his arm to be stopped. He sighed again and waited for Goto to slip slightly ahead of him before they started walking again. There was a beat of silence before he heard Goto take in a small breath.
“Were you really zoned out that badly while chewing gum?”
There was a small hint of amusement in his tone and it made Hallis’ cheeks heat up. “I said shut up.” He reached out and smacked Goto’s arm before he smacked him again after hearing him start to actually laugh. “Goto!”
“I still didn’t say anything. Now I know how to get you to shut up though.”
He was quick to evade the jab aimed at the base of his spine.
