Work Text:
It was early morning when Hinata woke up, feeling cold. He turned towards Atsumu’s side of the bed, hoping to snuggle up to him and share their body heat, only to feel nothing but a cold mattress.
“Huh. That’s a first.” thought the ginger.
Usually Hinata would wake up earlier than the blonde, making the fact that Atsumu was up and about before he even woke up strange. A scent wafted into the bedroom, making Hinata bolt up in surprise and run down towards the kitchen.
“Smoke?!”
Bounding down the stairs, he skidded to a stop in front of the kitchen, where his lover was standing in front of the stove.
“Where’s the fire?!”
Atsumu jolted in surprise to the shout, dropping a spatula to the floor.
“Shoyo! You’re up early.” said the blonde, laughing nervously.
“Atsumu, what are you doing?”
“Uh, cooking.”
“You never cook.”
“First time for everything, right?”
“Yeah, well- Wait. First time?”
Atsumu nodded.
“You’re 23 years old, and have a twin brother who owns a restaurant and you’ve never cooked in your life?” asked Hinata, in pure disbelief.
“I mean, if Ma didn’t cook, Samu would, and you’ve cooked since we moved in together, so...”
Hinata walked over to the stove, picking up the spatula on the way.
“So, what are you cooking?” he asked, looking into the pan. Whatever it was, it was burned to a crisp.
“Eggs and bacon.”
Silence fell as Hinata stared at the food, trying to see eggs and bacon in the black remains of food.
“Atsumu, why are you cooking?”
“Well, you always cook for us, and since today is a special day, I thought I could make all our meals today… Let you rest for once.”
“Special day?”
“Yeah? Isn’t today our anniversary?” asked Atsumu, confused.
Silence fell again as Hinata looked over at the calendar on the wall.
“It is. I can’t believe I didn’t realize.”
An alarm rang from Atsumu’s phone, prompting the blonde to put on oven mitts and pull out a cake from the oven. He ignored the fact that it was smoking.
“Happy first anniversary to us, Shoyo!” said Atsumu, a bright smile illuminating his face.
Hinata almost melted at how adorable his lover was. And even if the next day, Hinata was stuck in the bathroom, he would never say it was because of Atsumu’s cooking.
