Work Text:

The timid but very bright sun peaked through the blinds. The first rays of morning shone on Fukka’s face, sculpting his nose and cheekbones. The man had beautiful pale skin that always seemed to glow in the natural light.

It must have been very early: Fukka’s thoughts were still clouded with the haze of sleep. Shifting slightly, he slowly wakes up in his lover’s arms. Hikaru had been staring at him for quite a while.

“Morning, love.” Hikaru’s raspy morning voice murmured as he kissed Fukka’s forehead, stretching his arms a bit.

“Hmm, morning.” Fukka whispered, the corners of his mouth quirking into a lazy smile.
He made no move to get up, enjoying the warmth between them both.

"Slept well?" Fukka asks.

"Mhmm.” Hikaru yawns, taking in the slow pleasantness of another Sunday morning in his husband’s comfort, basking in the morning light. His hand reached to touch Fukka’s cheek, his thumb caressed the smooth skin, making the older sigh into the warmth of his hand. This sense of intimacy and familiarity had been a routine for years. They would always get to wake up to this every morning: the whispered words, the constant and sure touches, and the longing stares. Fukka runs a hand through the other's hair and cheek, rubbing his thumb his cheek before keeping his palm glued there.

Lips locked in a peaceful shining moment, moving against each other's lips slowly, the warmth of their mouths pressed together. They pull away.
Their breaths mingle once the kiss is broken, sharing a quiet giggle and holding each other, staring into each other’s eyes, as the sun rises outside.

Hikaru places both of his hands around his spouse’s neck, pulling him in. Fukka happily licks into his mouth and the younger presses their tongues together. The two stay like that for a while, in bed, exploring each other’s mouths, sliding their tongues together, basking in each other’s presence. Fukka is the one that pulls away first, giving him a small peck.

“Ok, enough cuddles for now!”

Fukka makes a move to get up, but he is stopped by his husband’s arms, pulling him back. He ends up pressed against Hikaru’s broad chest and warm in his arms.

“Where are you going?” the younger mumbles against his back. “Don't go… stay here with me.” he pulls him closer and snuggles on the crook of his neck, pressing a soft kiss against his nape.

“To brush my teeth and perhaps… make breakfast?” Fukka replies, more a question than an answer. Hikaru stays still.

“No! Absolutely not.”

“It has been 10 years, Hikaru.” Fukka huffs, “Roughly 3650 mornings that you've been waking up by my side and yet you don’t trust me with the kitchen.”

“Aww you’ve been counting?” - Hikaru smiles brightly, his eyes forming half-moons.

“…No!”

“Ok, that’s real cute, but remember yesterday’s ‘incident’?”

Ah yes, yesterday’s dinner. Fukka wanted to surprise his husband by making him a home-cooked meal once Hikaru got home from work, but somehow, he managed to set the fire alarm off, and get the neighbours at their doorstep. Thankfully none of them misunderstood the situation and called the firemen. That would have been… embarrassing, to say the least.

“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to stay like this a little longer…” Fukka says, turning and cradling his face in Hikaru’s collarbone, as he squeezes the shorter man tighter.

They stay like that for long minutes.

“I love you.” - Hikaru breaks the soothing silence.

Fukka breathes soundly. “I love you too.”
“But you’re still an idiot.” Hikaru said.
“Yes.” Fukka laughs. “But I’m your idiot.”
“Yeah.” Hikaru said affectionately, patting his lover’s head. “My idiot.”

How did they end up this lucky in a world so cruel, so tough? Fukka smiled and nuzzled his face into his husband's neck, humming contently, as his warmth sinks into Hikaru’s, and Hikaru’s into Fukka’s.

It all felt like a wonderful dream, but this was their life.
