Work Text:
Jimin stares at the computer screen for five minutes, silently. The beautiful green sweater looks comfortable but it is expensive. “I don't need another sweater”, Jimin mumbles. But he cannot, for the love of God, stare away from the woolen apparel on the screen. Two more minutes of fighting his urges leads him to click on the buy button. He buys the green sweater, through his credit card, of course. It’s 3AM and he should be sleeping, considering it’s a Monday morning. But the routine is not new, it’s something Jimin’s accustomed to. He buys stuff. Clothing, shoes, accessories, food, whatever makes him happy. He buys them on credit. Well, he can afford to, considering he works as a top consultant in a leading multinational company, in spite of all the conventional ideologies the society had about omegas. He was thriving. So he did what he always does. He orders the sweater, turns the computer off, gets under the blanket in the bed and prepares to fall asleep. “One can never have enough sweaters”, he mumbles, slowly fading into the land of dreams.
Park Jimin is a 25 year old omega who made it on his own. Top of his class, always friendly and very professional at work. When one watches him, they’d think Jimin had the perfect life. Jimin, on the other hand, knew better. Having grown up in a household where his parents constantly fought and where they didn’t have enough means, he made sure to get proper education and land himself in a respectable position, which he did. But achieving one’s goal does take a toll. Jimin was mateless. He didn’t have a better half. All he had to show for a love life was a shitty ex who cheated on him with his neighbour. He’d say he doesn’t feel anything about it now, but there are nights when he cries himself to sleep. His ex left him scarred mentally. A part of him had begun trusting the alpha and then the man had gone and broken his trust. Jimin didn’t love him, he knows. It’s the fact that he was willing to love the man and was about to let his guards down, which left him so hurt. Jimin always had issues trusting people, another reason why his social circle was too small. He didn’t like letting people in. Nobody knows about that side of Park Jimin, except his best friend, an omega named Kim Taehyung. They met in college and have been inseparable since. Taehyung, although unmated, has a boyfriend, an alpha named Min Yoongi. The three of them often hangout together and although these gatherings are filled with joy and laughter, there are times when Jimin looks at Yoongi and Tae longingly, wishing for a mate, a partner. So Jimin shops. He shops and tries to use the warmth of a sweater as a substitute to a warm embrace, the scent of a new scarf as a substitute to a mate’s scent. His own scent of cherries and oranges mixing with those of new apparel, providing him temporary comfort. But that’s the thing. The scent of new clothes fade away and so his urge for newer ones come rushing back. He knows it’s not a good habit but he never had good control.
The next morning he wakes up, performs his morning routines and heads to the office, looking prim and pristine. He’s aware of being pretty and enchanting but he isn’t boastful or arrogant. He meets his colleagues and spends another day of stressful work. At lunch, he texts Taehyung who scolds him for his reckless spendings again but he justifies himself. “Wait till you watch me wearing it. It’s so beautiful Tae!”, he tells Tae over the phone. “You’ve said the exact same thing for the red shirt, the white top before that and the blue sweatshirt before that. Min, I’m worried. I hope you know what I’m talking about. Just, maybe consider my offer of the blind date I told you about? He’s Yoongi’s friend. Seems like a nice alpha”, Taehyung pleads. “Tae, you know what I’m gonna say”, Jimin replies. “Yes, but just.. Not all alphas are cheats. Just.. Please.. Consider it..”. Jimin gives in and promises to think about it. That night while going home, he thinks about all the things wrong with his life. He thinks about his brother who’s already found a mate. He thinks about his lack of a social life. He thinks about the countless number of heats he’s had to spend alone. All it does is upsets him further. He goes home, has dinner and decides to head to bed. There’s a niggling feeling in his mind that wants him to just check the online shop one last time before sleeping. So he gives in. He buys a new coat, a crop top and a blue scarf. It’s all EXPENSIVE. He heads to bed knowing he’s gonna be in trouble when Tae finds out.
***************************************************************************************
The next day, at Seoul National bank, a 25 year old alpha clerk is staring at his computer screen like he’s seen a ghost. “Hey, Namjoon hyung, come see this. This activity looks so suspicious. Who spends so much money every day?”, Jungkook beckons. “What is it, JK?”, Namjoon, his senior, answers. “This! Look at the numbers! They don’t make sense! Who spends so much online everyday? Do you think I should call and enquire about it?”, Jungkook asks. “I don’t know Kook, they seem to be paying the sum off though”, Joon answers. “Yes, but it feels weird. I have his name and number noted down. Let me just call and ask him if he’s aware of such transactions.” Namjoon hums and leaves Jungkook’s desk.
Unbeknownst to all the banking drama, Park Jimin was having a full blown meltdown in his apartment. He had just received a text from one of his acquaintances informing him that his ex and his ex-neighbour were getting married. But what upset him the most was the large amount he’d spent after receiving the news. He was going through it. What good was all this money if he didn’t have anyone to have dinners with at night? He had called in sick at work. He was busy having a pity party at home when his phone rang. He looked at the screen, he couldn't recognize the number. So he picked it up.
“Hello, Park Jimin?”, a beautiful and smooth voice registers in Jimin’s mind.
“Yes, this is him.”
“I am calling from the Bank. Are you aware of the frequent transactions from your credit account? We’re calling to ask since the transactions seemed suspicious.”
It sounded like a slap on his face. Jimin heard the caller clearly but the words hurt. You know things are getting bad when even a bank employee, one who profits from your transactions, calls you up to know if you’re okay. Apart from hurt, anger was the other emotion Jimin felt. Who the hell was this person with such a beautiful voice? He realized what he just thought about and decided to ignore the second part of this though. How dare this man question his lifestyle choice? So he answered bitterly,
“Yes, I AM aware. Because I spend them. And what’s wrong with it? I earn, I spend. It's simple..? Why do you need to know why I am spending it? Is it because I am an omega? Is it because omegas shouldn’t spend much?”
“No, sir. Please-”
“No you listen to me. Yes I am Park Jimin, an omega, who spends lots everyday. I don't need to be judged by you. I get it plenty from my friends. So fuck off”
The line disconnects and Jimin throws his phone away. At the bank, Jungkook feels awful. He feels like he intruded into someone’s life and judged them without any intentions of hurting them. He freaks out. Jungkook is an alpha but as described by most of his friends, he’s probably the friendliest alpha you’ll meet. So this sudden attack of accusations made him feel guilty. Against his better judgments he decides to pay Park Jimin a visit. He gathers his things and notes down the address and heads out, having informed Joon.
*********************************************************************************************
Half an hour after he’d received the call, Jimin hears knocks on his front door. He had only just stopped crying and had washed his face. He has no clue who it could be. So, he gets up, rubs away the water drops sticking to his face and opens the door. The first thing he registers is the beautiful scent of freshly pressed linens, like new clothes but with an undercurrent of pines. The second thing he registers are beautiful, large doe eyes looking at him with concern. The third thing he registers is the smooth voice asking him, “Park Jimin?”. It takes a moment for Jimin to come back to his senses. “Yes, I’m Jimin”. “I am Jeon Jungkook. I’m here from the bank, we talked earlier on the phone-”, Jungkook was interrupted. Jimin was appalled. This man, this fine looking man, an alpha, had actually come down to his apartment to judge him some more? “You? Was it not enough to judge me through the phone that you had to come down here? I can't believe this? I’m gonna complain against you to your seniors!” Jimin was raging. Jungkook had a lot to say, had a lot he could say. But he was currently enthralled and enchanted by a tiny omega, so beautiful with the most calming scent and beautiful eyes he’d met before. It took a moment for Jungkook to register that Jimin was full on raging at him. “No, sir. Mr. Park, I’m here to apologise for my conduct”. Jimin stopped midway through his rant, eyes going wide. “What? ”he asks. “I.. I shouldn’t have called you, I was only worried that someone else might have been using the card, since the transactions are so frequent. I am sorry”, Jungkook speaks sincerely.
“You’re sorry?”
“I..Yes..?”
And without speaking anything further, Jimin breaks down. He really has lost his mind. He shouted at someone for doing their job, how pathetic was this? He doesn't know why or how it happens but when his vision clears a bit, he finds himself in Jungkook’s arms, secure. “Are you okay?” Jimin shakes his head, “no.. I don’t think so”. But Jimin is tired and he’s sleepy. He had been crying for a while and Jungkook’s scent wasn’t helping. He doesn’t remember when he falls asleep in the arms of an unknown alpha but he had never felt as safe and comfortable anywhere else before. Jungkook carefully lifts the omega in his arms. To be honest, he has no clue what he is doing. He just knows that this omega needed a friend and a warm hug, maybe. He places Jimin on Jimin's couch, not having located the bedroom. He didn’t wanna intrude. He stays there for a few moments, whispering soft, sweet words to the omega. He takes one last glance at the omega before leaving the apartment.
Jimin wakes up hours later. He realizes he’s missed his lunch and it was now time for dinner. He doesn’t remember much but he surely remembers the sweet alpha who had taken care of him. He finds a glass of water at his table with the note saying, “Drink some, hope you feel better by the time you wake up”. He drinks and reads the note over and over again. God, he’s made a fool of himself. But against his better judgements he finds himself typing a text to the number he’d received the call from, earlier in the day.
Jimin:
I hope this is Jungkook. I just wanted to thank you.
You didn’t have to console me.. But you did.. I am sorry too..
Thank you.
He receives a response instantly.
Jungkook:
Hey.. I hope you’re doing better now.
And there’s no need to thank me.
Jimin:
But I really want to. Also, I wanna apologise for lashing out at you, earlier in the day.
I just.. It was bad timing.. I am really sorry.. I’d like to apologise properly. How about we meet for coffee? I’ll buy you cupcakes or something.
Jungkook:
Ahh.. Looks like you’ve found my weakness.. Free food.. I can never say no to that.
Jimin smiles reading the texts.
Jimin:
Okay. Then tomorrow? I’ll send you the time and address.
Jungkook:
Tomorrow. Night, Jimin..
That night Jimin orders food in and watches comedy movies on his TV. He scrolls through his shopping app but decides to head to bed. He was way too excited for the lunch he’d be having with an alpha, a potential friend.
**************************************************************************************
“Tell me who you’re hiding, Jimin!”, Tae was yelling from the other end of the line. “No one, Tae. Just a friend. We’re meeting for brunch and that’s it”, Jimin explains. “Jiminah.. Stop lying. I know you’re hiding something, or someone? Tell me!” “Tae, I have to go now, I’ve arrived at the restaurant. Okay, bye”. Jimin disconnects the phone ignoring Tae’s yelling from the other end of the line. He was truly at the restaurant. It was a small coffee shop and restaurant. It was cozy and nothing fancy. But Jimin loved this place. He’d texted Jungkook the address and time. But now standing at the restaurant doors, he felt nervous. For what? Jimin didn’t know. He steps in but is shocked to see Jungkook already sitting at a table, waving at him. He’d been to dates and normal meetings before and never has Jimin found anyone to be waiting for him. It was always him doing all the waiting. So it took Jimin by surprise but he tried to hide the shock by waving back at Jungkook, only realizing a minute later, how weird he must be appearing. He makes his way to Jungkook, who stands up and greets him.
“Hi”, greets Jungkook.
“Hi, were you waiting for long? Sorry.”
“Calm down Jimin, I've only been here for 5 minutes and we’re both earlier than the time you’d mentioned.”
Both of them take their seats and then there’s silence.
“So..”
“So…”
“I… I’m sorry Jungkook. You seem like a very nice person and I yelled at you for nothing when you were just doing your job. I just.. I have this weird habit of buying stuff whenever I feel happy or sad.. I’m trying to get rid of this habit but it's just hard.. And then you called me up that day just after I’d had a breakdown and I lashed at you-”
“Jimin.. I’m not here to hear your apology, if I’m being honest.”
Jimin halts, wide eyed.
“You’re not? But I AM sorry..”
“Okay.. But I was promised cupcakes. I am here for cupcakes. And the only way I would forgive you is if you stop saying sorry and order me some cupcakes.”
“What-”
“Yes.. I get it. Life’s hard. But do you know what’s not hard? Cupcakes. Now.. Shall I order or will you?”, Jungkook says grabbing the menu card.
Jimin was dumbstruck. He had never met anyone like this before, let alone an alpha. The rest of the brunch passes smoothly. Jimin learns that Jungkook works at the bank as a clerk but is also pursuing a course on photography. What Jimin finds more surprising is that Jungkook actually listens to what he was saying. Jungkook learns about Jimin’s job and his hobby of dancing. It is during this particular discussion when Jungkook asks Jimin to accompany him to a dance fest where Jungkook’s friend, an omega Jung Hoseok was participating. Jimin readily agrees. Both of them decide to carry their correspondence on through texts to decide when and how they’d meet on the weekend for the fest.
Once at home, Jimin checks his phone to find a dozen missed calls from Tae. He texts him that his brunch was okay and that he’d made a friend. Tae calls him up to try and find more but Jimin doesn’t reveal much. He didn’t want Tae to know about Jungkook. He needed a friend, a partner who’d listen and not judge. And miraculously he was beginning to find that in Jungkook. He knew, the moment he’d tell Taehyung about Jungkook, Tae would want them to be dating but Jimin was happy being friends with Jungkook and didn’t want to risk losing it. He talks with Tae for an hour or so, fixes himself dinner. He eats and heads to bed directly, tired from the stressful work. He doesn’t even check the shopping site, instead texts Jungkook a GOODNIGHT and falls asleep with a smile on his face.
***************************************************************************
Jimin cannot remember the last time he felt this excited over a weekend approaching. Both Jungkook and Jimin kept texting each other in the meanwhile, nothing serious. Cat videos, funny stories and random things. He didn’t know why he was so excited. A part of him wanted to buy new clothes for the fest but his rational mind and Tae’s incessant scoldings prevented him. As Saturday approaches, Jimin finds that he can no longer avoid Taehyung’s interrogations. He tells him about Jungkook but not all. He hides his name, tells Tae that Jungkook’s name is JK. He doesn’t want Tae to stalk Jungkook on social media. Jimin feels guilty but he tells himself that he’ll enlighten Tae on everything in due time. On Saturday, Jimin finds Jungkook at his doorstep with his bunny smile on display. They leave for the fest at noon and reach the venue in an hour. Jungkook drives them. At the venue, Jimin feels nervous. He didn’t know what to expect. He certainly wasn’t expecting to be meeting more of Jungkook’s friends. But he does.
Jungkook introduces him to his senior, an alpha named Kim Namjoon and explains how Jung Hoseok was Namjoon’s better-half. He also introduces Jimin to a tall and handsome looking man. He finds that the handsome man was named Jin, and he was Jungkook’s older brother and Hoseok’s friend. They seem like a tight knit group. Jimin, although felt a bit nervous around the new people and new scents, soon found that they were all very welcoming. He watched and cheered for Hoseok during their performance. At the end of the fest, they decided to head to dinner together. Later Hoseok introduced himself as Hobi during their celebratory dinner. They talked and laughed and Jimin realized he shared many hobbies and qualities with all of them. He misses Tae and Yoongi. They would have been happy to meet them too, he thinks. All of them exchange their numbers with Jimin. At around 8 in the evening, Jimin decides to leave. He calls for a cab home, declining Jungkook’s offer of driving him home. He wants Jungkook to have fun with his hyungs.
Once Jimin leaves, all of them stare and start teasing Jungkook. “You’re so whipped, my boy”, Jin pats his brother’s shoulders. “What?” “Oh Jungkookie, you were practically hanging on every word spoken by Jimin'', Hobi teases. “ No.. No.. He’s a good friend to me”, Jungkook counters. “Ah.. Stop it Jungkook.. I spend everyday with you at the office. The way you keep staring at your phone with the dumb smile is more telling than any of your justifications”, Namjoon chimes in. “It’s just.. I like him. Okay? But I need time. He’s.. I don’t think either of us are ready for something right now. So please, kindly divert the topic to one where I don’t get embarrassed”.
“Fine..Fine.. Guys remember the time Jungkook cried during his movie date.. While watching Frozen?”, Hobi says.
All of them begin laughing..
“Why do I bear with you guys.. I was emotional.. They were sisters.. I hate you all. I’m leaving”
Jungkook says with no malice in his voice. He knows how much his hyungs love him. He leaves for his apartment with the thoughts of a blonde omega who was beginning to affect him, in more ways than he wanted to share. He truly was whipped.
***************************************************************************************
Jimin and Jungkook continue their correspondence over the next few weeks. They meet for lunch, have dinners together and even have movie nights. Things seemed to be falling into a pattern. Jimin would be lying to himself if there weren’t moments when he felt Jungkook’s undivided attention on him, in a crowded room. He’d be lying if he says that the attention didn’t send a shiver down his spine. He’d be lying if he says that he didn’t feel anything for a certain doe eyed alpha, an alpha who had become a close friend to him.
Things continued to move at a constant and regular pace until one day when Jimin received a text from Jungkook. Jimin receiving a text wasn’t the unusual thing, the content of the text was what made Jimin worried.
Jungkook:
*Can.. Can I meet you? Now? I wish I had someone to talk to*
Of course Jimin agrees and they decide to meet at a park which is almost at equal distance from both their apartments.
Around 9pm Jimin finds himself leaving his apartment in a taxi, heading to the park. Once he reaches the park, he begins to look for Jungkook. After strolling for a few minutes, he spots a lone figure at a bench with their head bent down. He reaches the figure. “Jungkook?” Jungkook looks up at Jimin and Jimin notices Jungkook’s smile somehow doesn’t reach up to his eyes. He takes the spot beside Jungkook. Neither of them look at each other but Jungkook breaks the silence. “I had a bad day. I don’t know why I called you but I am happy you’re here now”
“What happened, Jungkook?”
Jimin is worried. In all these months, he had never seen Jungkook look so forlorn and empty. He wanted to comfort him but had no idea on how to do it. So he stayed and listened patiently.
"I'm the youngest one in my family. Have I ever told you that?"
Jungkook doesn't notice Jimin shaking his head but he continues.
"I have always been the bratty one. My parents have never really expected much from me. Hyung always did everything any ideal son would do. I love Jin Hyung, believe me, but somehow my parents were never happy with what I did. Hyung often consoled me, telling me that I didn't have to prove anything to anyone.. That I should just live the life I wanted.. But.. But somewhere in the back of my mind.. I just wanted my parents to be proud of me too.."
Jungkook sighs.. Jimin reaches over and holds Jungkook’s hands. They feel cold to Jimin.. Jungkook welcomes Jimin’s warmth and continues..
"I studied finance although I had no interest in the subject and then got the job. But by then hyung had already started working as a managing director at a company, so of course, nobody cared.. Today.. Today, I met someone from my hometown.. And they.. They told me.. That my mother told them how proud she was of her sons.. SONS! Not just hyung, but me too.. I.. I called her immediately and it just led to an emotional conversation.. I don't know.. I don't know why I used to think like that, I feel so stupid.."
Jungkook says, sighing..
There's nothing but silence for a few minutes.
"I've always had a dysfunctional family", Jimin begins, staring straight. "Mom and dad never really got along, we didn't have much and they'd keep fighting all the time"
"I remember I used to make sure my younger brother never knew about all of this. To him, we're still a normal family.. He is too sensitive, I couldn't make him go through what I did. I was 12 when I decided I wanted to make sure I make it on my own and out of there. But with time, my parent's relationship actually improved.. I should be happy but it's.. My entire childhood was spent in agony.. And I didn't get to have rainbows and colours in my life for so long that I'd begun thinking that monochrome is all there is to my life.."
Jimin sighs. He avoids looking at Jungkook and continues.
"You know there's this small shop near the mall called The Stopper.. There's this scarf that's on display.. It's filled with rainbow colours. It looks hideous but I often find myself staring at it. For some reason, it reminds me of home.. Of the things I have missed during my childhood"
"There have been times when I wanted to buy it. Can you imagine? I haven't bought it. It's not even costly.. But I have been too scared? I don't know.. But I know, when things get too hard and I wouldn't be able to bear it, I just might buy it.."
"I hope you don't have to..", Jungkook supplies.
Jimin looks at Jungkook to find Jungkook staring at him with an expression Jimin can't decipher.. He's looking at Jimin with the softest eyes and a beautiful smile. Jimin flushes and is thankful for the dark surroundings for once.
"I don't really know why I shared that with you, about the scarf? Not even Tae knows about it. I don’t even buy stuff these days."
"Thank you, for listening. For sharing. For just being here. Thank you, Jimin", Jungkook says holding Jimin's hands in his.
"We should leave, it's getting late"
"Yes, we should".
Neither make a move, staring at one another.
The moment is however, interrupted when Jungkook's phone starts ringing. "It's Jin Hyung", he explains before pressing the green button.
Meanwhile, Jimin takes out his phone and starts to book a cab for him to get home.
Jungkook joins him a minute later. "Sorry, my brother just got a call from mom and wanted to check in on me"
"Ahh.. It's okay I was booking my cab"
"Jin Hyung is so whipped.. I can't believe he'll be getting married soon", Jungkook says suddenly. Jimin halts. "Jin hyung is engaged?" "No.. Not yet.. But he will be.. They've been together for years.. Since high school.. They're just so perfect.. So I'm sure they'll be married soon.."
"That's wonderful.. To find your mate.. And to be with them.." Jimin trails off in a whisper.
"I hope I get to experience the same one day, with my mate", Jungkook says.
"Yeah.. Me too"
But Jimin doesn't notice Jungkook staring at him while he was speaking.
The arrival of the cab cuts their conversation short. Jimin heads to get inside, when Jungkook holds his wrists again, softly. "Thank you Jimin, for being here". "I will always be here for you Kook-ah, and thank you too.. Now get home safe and text me when you reach", Jimin gets inside and waves at Jungkook as the cab starts moving.
Once inside the cab, Jimin finally lets his guards down. There are tears streaming down his face but they’re happy tears. He’d found someone to share his secrets with. To share his sadness with. He’d found someone. He's pretty sure that he's fallen for the alpha.. But he's scared to let his guard down in front of him.. To take a leap of faith.. He's scared and hopeful.. He steps into his apartment. That night he deletes the online shopping application from his phone.. He didn't need it anymore.. He had Jungkook for comfort.. He had Jungkook, for now.
********************************************************************************
As days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, Jimin found his walls crumbling down slowly. What surprises him the most is the fact that he doesn’t even resist it, he lets it crumble down. In all these weeks, he hasn’t even shopped recklessly. He is surprised but also proud of himself. Three weeks after the incident at the park, Jimin finally introduces Jungkook to Taehyung by his real name. Tae and Jungkook have a lot in common, in terms of hobbies. Tae loved Jungkook and he didn't shy away from displaying his opinions. Jimin couldn’t argue with Tae when he proposes that the two should date. He couldn’t give him a reason. But Jimin knew that in spite of being scared, he knew Jungkook was not someone who would hurt him intentionally. A week later when Jimin’s heat hits him, he was unprepared. He had completely forgotten to take his suppressants and the worst part is that the symptoms of preheat started to show when he was having a movie night with Jungkook. Jungkook, on the other hand, felt like he needed to mate the omega. But his human and more rational side made sure that he didn’t. He called Tae and bought Jimin groceries and food which the omega would be needing during his heat. Jimin didn’t know whether to be happy for Jungkook helping him maintain his dignity or sad about him not “helping” him through his heat because he knows for a fact that he’d have accepted it.
A grueling week later, Jimin finally finds the courage to look past the embarrassment he has felt and meets Jungkook at a coffee shop. He thanks him with more cupcakes. That’s another thing. Jungkook only accepted sorries and thank yous in edible currency, that is, food. There were little things which Jungkook did which made Jimin swoon and fall deeper. The way Jungkook always asked Jimin what he wanted to order, knowing very well that Jimin would order the same coffee and pastry. He’d hold Jimin’s hand whenever they’d cross a street. Little things which might seem the most mundane activities but which felt wonderful to Jimin. There have also been times when the omega found the alpha staring at him, when their texts were borderline flirty. But like always, Jimin was too scared to even think that such an amazing alpha would fall for him. He was happy to be Jungkook’s friend. During one of the get-togethers with their friends, where all of them excluding Yoongi were present, Jungkook made an announcement.
Jungkook invites them all to his home. Jungkook explains that it's his parent’s anniversary and the two brothers were throwing a party on this occasion. Jin further emphasises that all the attendees should have a plus one, else they won’t be allowed in. Although said as a joke, Jimin can’t help the flush from appearing on his cheeks when he finds Jungkook staring at him. That night while Jungkook drives Jimin home, he asks Jimin to be his plus one date. Although Jimin is pretty sure that it's only because either Jungkook didn’t have any other options or people to choose from or because he wanted to ensure Jimin attended, Jimin still felt his heart jump in excitement. The event was to take place a month from that night.
**********************************************************************************************
A week later, Jimin is strolling through a mall with a phone in his hand during his lunch break. “Tae, but you must agree. This is an improvement. See, I’m here in a mall buying an outfit, RATIONALLY” “I’ll be the judge of that when I see what you end up buying. Min, make sure you buy something outstanding. Although I’m pretty sure Jungkook wouldn't be able to move his eyes from you if you went to that party wearing a sack”. “TAE! Please.. Just help me.. I don't know what to wear. Do I buy a suit?? Will that be too formal? God, I’m gonna be using my credit card after months. The babies must have missed me” “ Your babies were fine inside your wallet, make sure to send them to confinement once done with this shopping spree” “ God, you’re harsh” “ Yes, that’s why you need me”. Jimin sighs,”True.. Let me just go and grab a quick lunch to go, so I won't starve today”. Jimin bids tae goodbye and disconnects the call. He’s about to step onto the elevator when he notices a brunette alpha with a bunny smile. Jimin smiles to himself and is about to go and greet Jungkook when he notices that Jungkook isn’t alone. He’s there with a woman, an omega. Jimin doesn’t know why his heart drops. “Might be his colleague or a friend from work”, Jimin mumbles. “But he’s never told me about any of his colleagues before”, he thinks. Jimin decides to just grab a cup of coffee and head back to his office instead. On his way back, all his thoughts went back to the alpha-omega couple who looked happy and close, too close. Jimin decides he’d ask Jungkook indirectly about it later that day. He continues with his work once he reached his workplace.
At night, Jimin texts Jungkook and both of them chat like nothing out of order has taken place. But Jimin knew better. He slipped the question in during the chat, asking how Jungkook’s day was, if he’d have a good lunch today. To Jimin’s shock and disappointment, Jungkook tells him that he had been in his office all day and didn't have the time to even step out for a coffee. Something in Jimin deflates. Jungkook was lying. Jimin knew it. But he didn’t understand why. Was Jungkook hiding something? Was the omega his girlfriend? He realised that they never really discussed their dating life before. Jimin realizes he’s overthinking. He decides to sleep on it and just ignores Jungkook’s lie. A few days later, he slips in the topic of dating life during their nightly text conversation. Jimin tells Jungkook about his shitty ex and how he hadn’t dated anyone since. In his part, Jungkook informs Jimin that he’s never really had a long term relationship, although there’s someone he kind of likes. Jimin doesn’t ask further. He’s too scared to know the answer. So he diverts the topic to his credit cards and how he never uses it these days. Jungkook, Jimin begins to think, tries to bring back the topic of dating every few minutes but Jimin plainly ignores it. Things were getting weird for them and Jimin didn’t want them to get any more weirder. Jimin was consoling himself with the philosophy of “ignorance is a bliss” but he was to soon realize that not all things could be ignored.
*********************************************************************************************
Jimin tries for a day to avoid Jungkook and he fails terribly. He's aware that his omega has already chosen Jungkook as their mate and his human side couldn't do anything about it. So he tries and fails and then he gives up. Maybe he's overthinking. There's no reason for him to feel so low.. That woman could have been a friend Jungkook didn't deem important enough to introduce to him, Jimin thinks. So in spite of his mind telling him NO, he can't resist when Jungkook sweetly texts him good morning or when he offers to drive him home from his office. The shopping mall incident, long forgotten.
A week later, Jimin buys a stunning outfit for the party. Taehyung helps him choose his accessories. Taehyung would be attending with Yoongi too but he’d explained how the two of them might be late to the party since he had an exhibition to attend on the same day. All three of them had gone shopping together at the mall. At dusk, the couple bid Jimin goodbye and Jimin goes home. There's predictions of a storm in the news. He's about to undress when a thought comes to his mind. He decides to surprise Jungkook at his apartment and have a sudden movie night. So he leaves the bags and locks his door again. He hails a cab and tells the man the address. On his way, he imagines how shocked and happy the alpha would be. He wonders if Jungkook would ask him to stay the night, since it would be raining soon as the forecast had suggested. All his thoughts are interrupted by the taxi driver who announces that they'd reached the address. Jimin pays the man his due and begins to walk towards Jungkook's apartment. He's been there many times, so the security guard doesn't stop him. Instead, he buzzes Jimin in and greets him kindly.
Jimin waits for the elevator but is impatient and decides to take the stairs instead. It's only 3 flights of stairs, he reasons and begins his ascent. When he reaches the third floor, he's tired but still excited. However, his excitement doesn't last long as he notices the elevator door to the 3rd floor open with Jungkook standing in front of it. But he's not alone. He's with the same female omega, the one Jimin had seen Jungkook with at the mall. Jimin doesn't move. Jungkook and the mystery woman have their backs turned to Jimin, so they can't see him. And since Jimin was at a fair distance away from them, they couldn't smell his presence either. Jimin remains frozen in his spot. He watches the omega hug Jungkook, tightly. He watches the omega reach up and press a soft kiss on Jungkook's forehead. He watches the omega tell Jungkook "Love you, Kookie". He watches it all.. And still remains frozen. The only evidence which could distinguish him from a statue would be the tears streaming down Jimin's face. Jimin isn't even aware of them. He notices Jungkook's shy demeanor, watches him smile and wave the omega goodbye as the omega gets inside the elevator. Before Jungkook could turn around, Jimin bolts. His vision is blurry and his breathing pattern is ragged. He feels his heart constricting as he takes the stairs. He nearly tumbles and falls a number of times. He doesn't know what to do. He feels devastated. Never in his life had Jimin experienced this kind of pain, where it felt like someone was ripping his heart out of his chest. His omega was howling inside, angry and sad having watched their alpha with a different omega. Jimin starts walking. He doesn't know where he's going, his mind isn't working anymore. He doesn't register when it starts to rain. He gets drenched in the rain but his heart is drowning under his tears
It is only when he collides with a person that he breaks out of the trance. He apologises to the man and rubs his tears away from his cheeks. He looks up to find he's standing in front of the small shop, The Stopper. Without a second thought, he goes in. He asks the shopkeeper about the rainbow coloured scarf which had been on display but which wasn't any more.
Jimin sniffles and asks the woman at the counter..
"Ma'am..There.. There was this scarf on your di-display.. The colourful one.. Where.. Where is it? I'd like to buy it"
Jimin says somehow.
"Oh the rainbow one? That was a one of a kind piece.. Someone bought it a few weeks ago.. I never thought anyone would buy it, but then someone did.. Sorry hon, would you like something else? There are many other scarves.."
Jimin doesn't hear the rest of what the woman says. He doesn't think he can take it anymore. The only fragment of home he ever associated himself with, was gone. Everything he held dear is gone and he's here.. Alone.. He steps out of the shop and somehow gets back home.. He's been crying on his way back which turns into a full blown meltdown once he's inside his apartment. A part of him wants him to be reckless and buy stuff. He takes his phone and realizes that the shopping app was uninstalled by him.. He cries.. Because he knows this is a pain, not even reckless shopping could lessen. He looks over to the bags he'd placed on the table earlier and begins taking out the clothes. He takes long whiffs of the smell and cries harder. The smell of new apparel was no longer the comfort scent he needed. Jungkook. He needed Jungkook. He needed his alpha. But Jungkook wasn't his. Had never been. Jimin doesn't know what else to do. So he does what he thinks would be the right thing to do. He packs his bag in a hurry and decides to leave for his home.
********************************************************************************
The next morning, Jimin shows up at Tae's apartment to bid him goodbye. He tells him EVERYTHING .Things he’d hidden, things he was too afraid to share, things he felt and things he wanted to let go of.. Tae hugs him and consoles him. “Jimin, did I really fail you as a friend that you felt too reluctant to share your feelings with me? Have I been such a terrible friend?”, Tae asks through his sniffles. “No.. Tae.. It's just.. I didn’t want to bother you. I already knew how much you worried about me. I am a grown man and you still worry about me. I just thought I’d be able to do this on my own.. Guess, I thought wrong.” “Jiminie.. Have you considered talking to Jungkook? You still don’t know the actual truth.. There might be some other reasons-” “No, Tae.. I think what I need is a break from everything and everyone. I don’t think I can face him. I know it’s not a wise thing to do but.. I need it”
“And what if he comes here and asks me about you? What am I gonna tell him?”
“He probably won’t-”
“Jimin.. Don’t lie to yourself. Even if he has a girlfriend, he has been a good friend to you.”
“I know”, Jimin deflates.
“Tell him you don’t know, lie to him.. I just need to make sure my omega understands the circumstances and then I’ll try to come back. For now I need space”
“I’ll always be with you Minie.. I still think you should talk to him but I will respect your decision. Just take care. Will.. Will you not be attending the party then? It’s in a week”
“I don’t know. I.. I’ll tell you..”
“Bye, Minnie.. Let me know when you reach home and give my love to your parents”
Jimin hugs Tae again, tightly.
“I’m sorry Taetae.. I love you, take care”
Jimin leaves. He takes the bus to Busan. It leaves early in the morning and it takes him a few hours to reach home. He hasn’t bothered to check his phone. He just wanted to be alone.
Once at home, he’s greeted by his parents and his brother. They shower him with hugs and kisses. He doesn’t usually say it often, but he misses his home. The warm embraces help him. They make him feel safe. His parents look happy, which makes Jimin happy. Over the years, he’s had to witness the change in their relationship. He knows that a part of why he has problems trusting people with his heart is because of his parent’s relationship. He acknowledges the fact that it’s not a valid reason to keep oneself away from any romantic possibilities, but he still gets influenced by the trust issues. He decides he’s just going to spend quality time with his loved ones. Owing to his job and his father’s promotion, the family now had a proper lifestyle. He somehow feels proud to have contributed to it. His sudden leave application was accepted warmly by the seniors for this particular reason, for his efficiency at work. He decides he’s gonna have good home cooked meals and just relax. He was home.
************************************************************************************************
Jimin spends the next few days exploring his hometown, visiting his school friends and watching the waves hit the shoreline. Busan brought back a thousand memories. They help him but he still cannot ignore the constant pain in his heart. A heart which was broken into pieces, pieces which he needed to collect slowly. It really didn’t help him that his phone constantly blew up with messages and calls. Majority of these came from one particular doe eyed alpha he’d been trying to avoid. He read some of the texts. The normal *Where are you?* *Why aren’t you answering me?* *Please talk to me, Jimin* were many and mostly from Jungkook. He also received texts from Tae informing him that Jungkook had indeed visited him, asking him of Jimin’s whereabouts. Afraid and tired of the constant messages, Jimin decides to text Jungkook just once.
Jimin:
*I’m on a break. I need some time. I hope you’ll appreciate my wishes and refrain from making further contacts*
One text, so formal and devoid of any warmth. Jimin even considered the text to be rude after having pressed send, but there was nothing else to do now. Jimin watched the blue ticks indicating Jungkook had read it. He waited and waited. Jungkook didn’t text or call him further. Jimin cries himself to sleep that night knowing very well that even now Jungkook was paying heed to Jimin’s wishes.
On his fifth day back in Busan, his father asks him to stay back after dinner and have a little chat with him. Jimin waits while his father makes them two cups of hot cocoa. Once settled on the couch, his father begins. “Jimin-ah, there are so many things I wanted to tell you over the years but never had the courage or opportunity to”
Jimin is shocked but maintains his stoic expression.
“There are days when your mother and I sit here in this exact spot and shed a few tears. We are so proud of you. I hope you know that”, His father says with glossy eyes.
“Dad, it’s okay-”
“No, Min. It’s not. We.. We knew the toll our constant fighting was taking on your mental health. We knew it and we still fought. I.. I feel like I have disappointed you. You might not remember it, but your mother and I once saw you crying in the attic, all alone. That is when we realized how much we had messed up our child’s life. We decided to try, because of you.” His father is crying as he speaks. “When you told us you wanted to move out at 18, we.. we didn’t stop. Not because we didn’t care but.. But because we knew you’d be happier without us”
Jimin realized he’s crying as the tears stream down his face.
“We just.. We thought you won't look back and you’ll continue with your life, without us. But.. You didn’t. You didn’t Jimin-ah.. Your mother and I.. we’re so proud of you.. Not because of your accolades, not because of your position at the firm.. We’re proud to have raised a good human being, one who isn’t afraid to go back to his past, one who is brave enough to continue on.. One who is strong.”
“Dad, I..” Jimin breaks down.
Jimin doesn’t realize when he reaches for his father but they end up in an embrace. They hear sniffles from across the room and realize that Jimin’s mother had been listening in. She walks over to them and Jimin hugs both his parents, tightly. He feels their warmth, their familiar scents, their love. He feels so full of emotions. As they detach from one another, his mother rubs away the tears from Jimin’s face and continues, “You were the reason why we got back together, Jimin. Of all the things your father has said, I hope you’ll remember that you’re loved. It is okay to feel afraid. We will be here for you. I know there’s something bothering you, but I also know that my Min-ah is a strong and rational man. He’ll be okay. We will all be okay.”
Jimin hugs both his parents before heading to his room. He’s crying but this time the tears are of joy. He never knew how much he needed the closure he just received. He gets in his bed and keeps staring at the ceiling. He can’t fall asleep. He decides to take a walk by the beach to clear his mind a bit.
Jimin walks for what seems like an hour, alone. His mind is filled with so many different thoughts but somehow all the thoughts lead him back to the one doe-eyed alpha in Seoul. Jimin huffs and takes a seat on the sandy beach. He watches the waves crash against the shore. The sound somehow provides him peace. He stares at his phone. He goes through his phone’s picture gallery. He shouldn’t be surprised when he comes across a number of pictures of Jungkook. Jungkook is supposed to be the photographer, yet Jimin often ended up taking pictures of them doing the most random things. He scrolls through the gallery and ends up coming across the pictures he’d taken a month ago, when they’d visited an amusement park. Jimin remembers having mentioned once how he’d never been to one when he was a child and the next thing he knew Jungkook had created a plan discussing their amusement park trip. He remembers Jungkook holding his hands on their rollercoaster ride, feeding him ice cream, buying him a bunny plushie. He’d helped Jimin experience something Jimin thought he wouldn’t ever experience in his lifetime. Jimin keeps his phone aside and stares at the sky. It's dark with a few stars visible. The wind is humid and cold. Jimin’s mind goes back to something his dad had told him a few hours ago, “You’re brave”.
“I never have been a coward then why should I start acting like one, now?”, Jimin mumbles.
Jimin feels guilty. He knows his actions weren’t rational. He knew he was hurting Jungkook, without meaning to. What kills him the most is the fact that he’s been a terrible friend to Jungkook when the alpha had always, ALWAYS been a kind and caring friend to him. And for what? Jungkook could have a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a mate. It shouldn't affect their friendship. He doesn’t deserve to be treated the way Jimin had treated him. Jimin takes one last look at the picture of the two of them on his phone screen, enjoying their ice creams. He’s made up his mind. He’s gonna head back home tomorrow and he’s gonna attend the party. Because he loves Jungkook and he would rather watch Jungkook be happy with someone else than cause him even a little pain through his actions. He picks up his phone and starts making his way home.
The next morning, Jimin texts Tae about his return. His family showers him with hugs before he leaves for Seoul. Jimin reaches his apartment in the afternoon. He decides he wouldn’t inform the others about his going to the party. He dresses up, he wears the black jeans with a shirt and coat. He matches the outfit with dangling earrings and uses a little eyeshadow to highlight his eyes. At 6pm he receives a text from Tae informing him that he’d be late to the party since he was still at the exhibition. He sighs. But he shrugs it off. He’s brave and strong and he’s gonna face whatever comes his way tonight. His cab arrives at 6.15pm and by 7pm he’s standing in front of the house. Tae had texted him the address. There’s a beautiful garden in front of the house with flowers blooming. He makes his way to the door. He feels his nerves getting the best of him but he still manages to turn the door knob and makes his way in. The house isn’t as crowded as Jimin had expected it to be. He takes his time taking in the living room details. It was huge and beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. He notices Hobi at one of the corners with Namjoon standing by him. He doesn’t know how to approach them. What do I say when they ask me where I’ve been? Maybe I shouldn’t have come, Jimin thinks. He’s about to turn around when he notices HIM. Jungkook, dressed in a beautiful black jacket and black trousers. He looks beautiful but he’s not alone. He’s accompanied by the omega and Jin. Jimin should have known. He wasn’t as strong as he thought he was. He feels his heart getting heavier. It was obvious that the omega was important to Jungkook, important enough to be introduced to his family. He feels the sting behind his eyes. He can somehow sense his nose might be getting redder. He thinks of bolting but at that exact moment his eyes meet those of Jungkook’s and it feels like time has stopped.
They keep staring at one another for what seems like ages. Jungkook’s gaze, strong and shocked. Jungkook’s about to reach out to him when the clinking of glasses is heard. Jimin feels like he is saved from the encounter. He tries to scurry his way out of the crowd but is stopped by Hobi and Namjoon who ask him to stay. “Where were you? Jimin, we missed you so much”, says Hobi. “I.. I think I should go” “Go? Where? No.. Stay. At least listen to the announcement Jin hyung’s parents are about to make”, Namjoon insists. And somehow Jimin finds himself frozen on the spot, tightly snuggled between the pair. His thoughts get interrupted by the clinking of glasses again and he notices two older people, presumably Jungkook’s parents, speaking, The pair look beautiful, Jimin thinks. The alpha, Jungkook’s mother, is tall with jet black hair while the omega, his father has blonde hair with doe eyes. Jungkook resembles both of them, Jimin thinks. The pair are surrounded by their sons and to Jimin’s dismay, the omega.
“Thank you, ladies and gentleman for this wonderful reception”, Jungkook’s father begins. “ I should say that both my wife and I are surprised but it would be a lie, considering the boys have been planning it quite openly. We love the arrangement and appreciate this beautiful event. It is our 30th anniversary but I wouldn’t consider myself or my wife, old. We’ll be young at heart, always”, the crowd cheers him on. “However this announcement is not just for thanking them or you all. It gives me great pleasure to announce that one of our sons has finally decided to tie the knot with his lovely girlfriend”. Jimin couldn’t stop his heart from beating so fast. He notices Jungkook’s burning gaze on him. He feels like he’ll melt any minute. He wants to avoid the tears. He wants to run away from this announcement but he can’t.
“Please congratulate the lovely omega, Soyeon-shi..”
Jimin feels dizzy “... and our eldest son, Jin”
The crowd erupts into applause and cheers. Namjoon and Hobi move towards the centre to congratulate the pair. But Jimin remains frozen. He couldn’t believe what he heard.
“Jin Hyung is so whipped.. Can’t believe he’ll be getting married soon”, Jungkook’s voice echoes in his mind. He feels like he cannot just stand there anymore. All this pain, this hurt. Over what? But that means he’s neglected the alpha and hurt him for no reason. Jimin feels the weight of the guilt weighing him down. Without waiting any further, he turns around and starts making his way outside. The tears are streaming down his face. He doesn’t deserve to even be Jungkook’s friend. He feels like a fool. “But just because he’s not with this omega, it doesn’t mean he will be with you, Jimin. Not after what you’ve done to him”, Jimin reasons as he starts walking across the garden. But before he can take another step, he feels strong hands on his shoulder, stopping him. “Jimin…”
Jimin turns around and comes face to face with the alpha, he was running away from, again. He comes face to face with Jungkook.
**********************************************************************************************
Jimin can't even look at Jungkook. His head hangs low and he has a tear stained face. The makeup, all but ruined.
"Jimin.. Can.. Can we talk?"
"Please", Jungkook emphasizes..
Jimin lets Jungkook take him by the hand and leads them to a bench at the corner of the garden.
Jimin still won't look at him. He keeps sniffling every now and then. Jungkook feels like his heart is breaking.
"Jimin, please.. Jimin please don't cry. I.. I'm sorry.. I.. Please"
Jimin startles and gazes at Jungkook. "Wha- Jungkook what are you apologizing for?"
"I don't know what I did, but I know I've done something.. I must have hurt you, made you uncomfortable.. Enough for you to leave.. And.."
"Jungkook-"
"And all these days I kept.. Kept thinking about what I could have done which.. Which affected you so much.. Your.. Your text made me feel so guilty.. I.. I knew you were away just because you wanted to get away from me", Jungkook finishes with eyes glossy and lips quivering.
" Jungkook.. You- you did nothing wrong.. It was me.. All me.. I.. I don't deserve to have you as a friend.. I.. I don't even deserve to.. To have you as an acquaintance", Jimin manages to speak through his sniffling. "I'm.. Such a fool.. Please.. Let me go.. I'm so sorry Jungkook"
"What.. What are you talking about? Jimin.. I.. Don't I deserve some answers?"
Jimin hides his face behind his palms. His face is still tear stained. Jungkook softly holds his wrists away from his face. He then lifts Jimin's face a little and rubs the tears away from his face. "Jimin, please"
"I-I was hurt. I- I saw you with.. So-Soyeon shi.. At the mall, one day. But then you lied when I asked you.. And then I- I didn't know who Soyeon shi was. I saw her again, at.. At your apartment one night. She kiss-kissed you on the forehead and said.. Said she loved you". Jimin's voice quivers but he continues, "And you smiled back" "I.. I thought she was your girlfriend.. I didn't think and I.. I.." Jimin breaks down.. He sobs. Jungkook slowly embraces Jimin, sensing the scent of distress coming off of him. He starts releasing calming pheromones. Jimin buries his head on his shoulder.
"She.. Soyeon-shi is Jin Hyung's would-be mate.. I.. I told you about them, didn't I? I thought I.. I did.." Jungkook manages between his hiccups.
"I was helping her out with the ring, at the mall. You saw us that day, you.. You could have told me. I was asked to keep it a secret because Noona wanted to propose as a surprise.."
Jimin sniffles on his neck, his shirt wet with tears.
"I.. That night you saw me at the apartment.. She was going to propose that night and.. And came for some moral support"
Jimin can't take it anymore. He pulls himself away from the embrace and tries to get away but he's pulled back by Jungkook.
"Stop.. Stop running away. I.."
"I'm sorry, Jungkook.. You deserve a better friend. Let me go"
"Why?"
Jimin looks up at Jungkook. His gaze, burning, strong.
"Why?", repeats Jungkook.
"Why.. What?"
"Why did you leave when you saw me with her?"
"I'm stupid Jungkook, just let it go"
"NO! I'm not letting you go anywhere unless you tell me why!"
Jungkook's voice loud, his gaze fierce.
Jimin stammers, "I.. I don't wanna tell you.. It doesn't matter"
"Let me be the judge of that. Why?"
Jimin lowers his head. He's still crying but he doesn't know why anymore. Maybe it's the guilt or maybe the fear of being rejected by the alpha. "You're brave" Echoes in his mind.. He takes a deep breath.
"I.. I have feelings for you, Jungkook. I'm pretty sure I'm in love with you.. Watching you with her broke me and I just wanted to get away.. I.. I'm sorry.. I know you don't feel the same, I am ruining everyth-"
Jimin couldn't finish the sentence. He finds himself in a tight embrace. He melts again. "How dare you? How dare you presume that I.. I don't have feelings for you.. How.. How dare you! Have my efforts been so low that you couldn't understand what you meant to me.. Mean to me.. I.. I love you, Jimin.. I've loved you since the first time I saw you at your doorstep crying over a credit card.. How could you not know?"
"You.. You love me?"
"Yes.."
Jungkook pulls back. "I- I wanted to ask you to be my boyfriend but I was so scared that you wouldn't want it. I asked you to be my date tonight.. I wanted to ask you tonight and.. And had you said yes, I would have introduced you to my parents."
Jimin feels like he's in a trance. "How could you not know?", Jungkook asks softly. " I.. I thought you only liked me as a friend-" "I don't plan outings for my friends.. I don't wear bunny masks for them.. And I certainly don't dream about kissing them Jimin.." Jimin's cheeks blush red and he hangs his head low. "I thought we communicated well but then.. Then you left and.. I felt like my world collapsed", Jungkook says softly.
"I'm sorry, Jungkook.. I just didn't think someone like you would fall for me"
"Why do you say that?"
"I.. I have lots of issues.. But if anything this past week has taught me.. It's to face the issues and that is why I came here tonight. I don't wanna hide anymore"
And then it's silent for a minute before Jungkook speaks again.
"So.. Would you.. I mean.. Does this mean.. I.. Would you be-"
"I would love to be your boyfriend.. I love you Jungkook", Jimin smiles and looks at Jungkook. Jungkook hugs Jimin on instinct.
Both of them are lost in the moment, embracing one another, drowning in each other's scents. Jimin cannot believe what has happened. A part of his brain still thinks it's all a dream, that is until Jungkook pulls them apart and says "Can.. Can I kiss you Jimin?"
Jimin gets shy but nods softly. The kiss that follows is a slow one, full of emotion. Jimin's been kissed before but never quite like this. Jimin feels like he's being worshipped by Jungkook. Jungkook kisses him so softly, holding him in a warm embrace, cupping his cheeks and tilting his head. They kiss for what seems to Jimin, like ages. When Jungkook pulls away, Jimin finds himself chasing the other's lips..he feels dizzy and wonderful. He feels cherished"
Somehow there isn't any awkwardness, which surprises Jimin.
"We should head inside. I really want my parents to meet you"
Jimin nods shyly and accepts the hand offered by Jungkook. They walk together to the front door. Jimin has the widest smile when they make it inside.
He notices Taehyung with Yoongi. Tae waves at him and is about to call him when Yoongi interrupts them.
"Jungkook?"
"Yoongi?"
"Wait, you both know each other?", both Tae and Jimin say at the same time.
********************************************************************************************
Yoongi walks up to Jungkook and hugs him. Tae and Jimin are still puzzled.
"Jungkook and I went to the same Uni.. But it's strange.. Are you and Jimin dating?", he looks at Jungkook when he asks the question.
Jungkook smiles and nods. Tae squeaks and hugs Jimin. "I need the details!" "I'll tell you Tae, don't hug me so tightly.. Aahh", Jimin says as Tae engulfs him in a tight embrace.
"Why are YOU smiling though?", Jungkook asks Yoongi curiously.
Tae pulls away from Jimin and looks over towards his boyfriend.
"Tae.. Babe.. Remember the guy I wanted Min to date? The one I was trying to set him up on a date with?", Yoongi asks with a mischievous grin.
"NO WAY! It's Jungkook?"
"Wait.. The omega you wanted me to date was Jimin? I.. I could have met him sooner?"
Jimin is still in shock. He's received too many surprises in one day. "So.. You see you two would have possibly ended up together either way, thanks to me", Yoongi says smugly.
"Nah but we didn't go on the date so you can't take the credit. The credit doesn't go to you."
"What? And who does it go to?"
"The Bank of Seoul credit card"
They break into a laugh. They're soon joined by Joon and Hobi. Jungkook does introduce Jimin to his parents. Jimin finds that he likes Jungkook's parents. They're warm and welcoming. They seem to be quite modern and open minded too. He's also introduced to Soyeon-shi, whom he congratulates. All of them have drinks together. Jimin and Soyeon bond over shopping and dancing and decide to go on a shopping spree soon. The night passes merrily and through it all, he finds Jungkook by his side, holding him. He cannot remember the last time he's felt this happy. Later when they're all heading home, Jimin apologizes to Jungkook again but this time the alpha laughs. "Jimin, I thought by now you'd know better" "What?" "Blueberry cupcakes, tomorrow. Goodnight." He places a kiss on Jimin's forehead and urges Jimin inside the cab that had been waiting for him. "Text me when you reach home. Goodnight, Jimin"
"Goodnight, Jungkook", Jimin says with a soft smile plastered on his face.
*********************************************************************************
Jimin does take Jungkook to their coffee shop and buys him blueberry cupcakes the following day. Their conversations resumed. On the surface, one might think nothing really has changed between them but they knew better. It wasn’t awkward but it was new. It was the fourth day since their confession in the garden and Jimin finds himself dressed in a beautiful white shirt with black faded pants. He’s dressed to impress a certain alpha. Jungkook had asked him out on a date. A date, which the alpha had emphasized, that he’s been planning for months. Jimin doesn't believe him but he ignores it for he is thrilled to be going on their first date as a couple. At around 6pm, he finds Jungkook at his door, dressed in a black jacket, white T-shirt and blue faded jeans. His hair is parted, exposing his forehead, leaving Jimin in a trance. Jimin is shocked when the alpha hands him a bouquet of lilies, Jimin’s favourite flowers. Jimin doesn’t question Jungkook on how he found out about his love for lilies. Maybe, the alpha had actually been preparing this date for a while,Jimin thinks. On their way, to who knows where, Jimin keeps asking Jungkook where they were heading to but Jungkook kept avoiding the question. Jungkook was full of smiles, eyes sparkling with mischief and adoration. Once Jungkook parked their car, Jimin realized that they were at the park, the same park where they had once shared each other’s secrets.
Jungkook moves around the car to open the door on Jimin’s side and gently helps him out. He then reaches in the back seat and grabs a basket, which Jimin had not even noticed. He leads Jimin to a secluded spot under a tree. The starry night with twinkling stars acting as the roof for their little picnic. Jungkook lays down a blanket and asks Jimin to take a seat. He then slowly opens the basket and takes out small boxes of food. It smells delicious. They have dinner and talk about anything and everything. Jimin learns that the food was cooked by the alpha himself. He’d been taking lessons from his hyung, who’s known as the best chef in their family. Jimin expresses how much he loved the food and hums every now and then. They talk about work. Jungkook asks Jimin about his visit home and Jimin tells him how he met his school friends. Both of them converse for a while. Jungkook takes out two cupcakes, one for each and hands Jimin one. “This is store bought”, he grins. “You’ve already surpassed my expectations for this date.. I’d have been happy even if there was no dessert.. You’ve done so much”, Jimin smiles.
“I.. I didn’t know if you’d like it. I wanted to take you to a restaurant but then I wanted to cook for you. I just.. I wanted this to be memorable.” “It is, Jungkook..”, Jimin places his hands on Jungkook’s and smiles. They’re staring at each other for a while when suddenly Jungkook pulls away. “Wait..” “What? Where are you going?” “Just.. wait for a minute.. I need to grab something from my car” Jungkook heads back to his car. After about 3 minutes, Jimin finds Jungkook making his way back with a camera on one hand and a box on the other. “Are we about to have a late night photo shoot?”, Jimin grins. “Hmm.. Let’s see”. Jungkook gently places the box on Jimin’s lap. “What is this?” “It’s for you”
Jimin looks up at Jungkook suspiciously and starts unboxing. Jungkook takes a few pictures while Jimin is busy unboxing. “Stop taking my pictures when I’m not even doing anything", Jimin complains. “My camera, my rules”. Jimin is pouting and complaining about how Jungkook is being a brat when he feels something soft against his fingers. Soft fabric, he wonders. He slowly pulls out the material and is stunned. Jungkook takes a picture at the exact moment Jimin looks at him. His eyes filled with tears but his lips were drawn upwards. “Its.. It’s the scarf.. How.. Where’d you find it? I thought it was gone.. They said it was bought”, Jimin rambles on taking long sniffs of the scarf and admiring its soft texture against his face. “It smells like you” “Yeah.. I kinda scented it.”, Jungkook confesses. “How” “I bought it for you months ago.. Wanted to bring a piece of your home to you.. I.. I wasn’t lying when I said I’d been planning on this date for months”
“You.. You bought it? For me?” “yes.. I wanted to.. Like a courting gift, I don’t know.. Don’t cry please”
“Shut up.. How can I not cry.. I was crying so much that day.. But it was you.. I can’t believe this.. No one has ever done anything like this for me.. Ever”
“Wait.. Why did you want to buy it? When?”
“That night, when I saw you and Soyeon -shi.. Its stupid, I know”, Jimin says, head hanging low.
“Jimin.. I can’t believe I made you do that? I hurt you so bad”
“No, Jungkook.. It was my foolishness. I.. What did I do to even deserve someone like you?”, Jimin says staring up at Jungkook with eyes filled with love and wonder.
“I love you, Jungkook”
“And I love you, Jimin-shi”
“I’m gonna add this scarf to my nest.”
“Won’t you wear it?”
“What? No.. It looks hideous.. I’m sorry.. But this one is close to my heart and will remain in my nest, away from everyone’s eyes”, Jimin says with a pout on his face.
“Aah I’m hurt.. But I’m happy..” Jungkook speaks with a dazzling smile on his face and sparkles in his eyes.
“We should head home.. It’s getting late..”
They pack up their boxes and fold the blanket. They head to the car and make their way to Jimin’s apartment. Jungkook walks Jimin to his doorstep and kisses him softly.
Jimin realizes how he melts everytime Jungkook kisses him. Like clay to be shaped, he feels himself pliant in his alpha's embrace. Their scents get mixed, leaving the surrounding potent and aromatic. But they only kiss. They're taking it slow.. That's what they've decided, although both seem like losing control anytime they're around each other. Their wolves want to be by one another all the time, but their human sides want to take time to explore one another better. They have a lot of time, they've reasoned. A lot of time for them to know each other better. To learn about each other's annoying habits, to learn to love the annoying habits, to love one another. Yes, soon one of their heats or ruts might change their slow pace but they're not afraid. They're both brave. Together, they complete one another.

Epilogue
8 months later.
Jimin is lying in his bed, tangled up in the white bedsheets. He's still sleepy and has no intention of leaving the bed when his phone starts ringing. Sighing, he notices the time. It's 11AM.. He'd taken the day off. So he wasn't expecting any calls from the office. He frowned at the unknown number but pressed the green button, anyway.
"Hello, Park Jimin?"
"Yes, this is him."
"I am calling from the bank. Your credit card hasn't been in use for months. Considering the previous records, we just wanted to check whether you still have the card or if it's lost and hence you're not making transactions.."
Jimin bursts out laughing.
After conversing and reassuring the employee that his card was in fact with him, he finally gets off the bed and heads to the kitchen area.
He's still laughing when he takes the seat in front of the kitchen table top. "What's so funny?", says Jungkook who was busy cooking their lunch.
"I just got a call from the bank.. Regarding suspicious activities on my credit card..", Jimin manages between his giggles.
"They're worried I've lost my card since I don't make transactions these days", Jimin almost falls off the chair while relaying..
Jungkook is laughing at the other end too.
"You know.. My bank would fire me if they ever find out how I made one of their loyal customers, one who used to make transactions everyday, stop using his credit card.." Jungkook is laughing.
"I'm glad I got the promotion and don't have to deal with that.."
"Well if only they knew", Jimin says moving towards the alpha, hugging him from behind.
"Knew what, if I may ask", Jungkook turns around pressing their foreheads together.
"If only they knew I still make some transactions.. I haven't completely stopped using their services"
"Jimin.."
"I mean I can always use my card.. But the satisfaction of using one's mate's card.. Aaahh that's heavenly..", Jimin giggles into Jungkook's neck.
"All that is good and fine.. But you stated one fact wrong?"
"I did?", Jimin says with a frown on his face.
"Yes.. You see I'm not just your mate Jimin, I'm your husband too. And yes, I believe what's mine is yours. But I am a greater believer of the fact that YOU are mine"
“You’re a sap”
“I know”, Jungkook says, pressing a kiss on Jimin's forehead.
"Not now, Kookie.. Keep your hands and lips to yourself. We need to have lunch and then head to Soyeon-shi's baby shower"
"Aaahhh..yes..", Jungkook sighs but steals a kiss anyway.
It's been 8 months and they've been through a lot. They experienced their heats, ruts, fights and patch ups. But throughout these 8 months their love for one another only grew. During one of the crazy nights, the couple had decided to elope and got mated. They were then scolded by their parents and friends. Their actions were quickly forgiven and forgotten as both the families decided to throw a proper reception. Jungkook received a promotion at work and Jimin has been working up the ladders at his firm too. They've managed to bring balance to their lives but still do random crazy things to keep their lives entertaining. Their sudden three day trip to Tokyo was one such instance. There are days when Jimin's insecurities get the best of him but Jungkook always comes back to him, loving him, reminding him how much he is treasured. Jungook's relationship with his family has evolved and improved too. He often gets asked by his parents for grandchildren, which only makes the couple blush. Their hyung is currently on the path to becoming a father. Both of them are extremely happy and hope that someday they'll experience it too.. For now, they're just happy being with each other, loving one another.
There isn’t anyone other than Jimin who knows how there's actually a reason why he hasn't used his card. He plans on canceling it. But he has plans for the card itself. He's bought a photo frame and will soon frame the card. The credit card which brought him together to his mate.. Which acted as a catalyst in their story. This was their story. The story of Jungkook and Jimin, about credit cards and stupid hearts.
