The Forgotten Prophecy

Summary:

A long, long time ago an Oracle prophesied the birth of a new God. "He will be raised far from all divinity to become the link that will restore the faith of the ancient Gods in mankind."
When asked, the Oracle did not reveal who his parents would be or what kind of power he would have. It simply said "The water will protect him and the water will show him the way to Mount Olympus."

Millenia passed and the prophecy was forgotten. Until now...

Notes:

Written for the Second Round of 500 Feelings: THE DEIFICATION.

Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. It's loosely based on Roman Mythology, but it's not to be referenced as a scholar work. That being said, the Gods & Goddesses I mention are:
- Diana: the goddess of the Moon, she is considered a virgin goddess, protector of childbirth and a patroness of the countryside, hunters and crossroads. She is equated with the Greek goddess Artemis.
- Neptune: the god of freshwater and the sea in Roman religion, he is the brother of Pluto and Jupiter, and the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon.
- Aeolus: the god of the winds, is said to have been the son of Jupiter. He is represented as holding the winds, enchained in a vast cave, to prevent their committing any more devastations, since it was imputed to their violence the disjunction of Sicily from Italy and the separation of Europe from Africa, by which a passage was opened for the ocean to form the Mediterranean sea.
- Orcus: the god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths in Italic and Roman mythology. As with Hades, the name of the god was also used for the underworld itself.

I hope you have fun ❣

Work Text:

“I am not a babysitter.” Baekhyun whines. “Why would you ask so much of me, auntie?”

Diana smiles the brightest smile. She was revered by mankind as the Goddess of the Moon, Hunting and Fertility, but is also feared in Mount Olympus for being a skilled warrior. Nobody would call her less than what she was, except for one of Neptune’s sons, Baekhyun, as he likes to be called by these modern days.

Much like his father, Baekhyun has a temper and most Gods find it hard to handle him. But not Diana. She first saw him when he was just a newborn and fell in love with his ocean blue eyes. She proclaimed herself the baby’s godmother and, as such, taught him everything she knew.

“Because I trust only you, nephew.”

Baekhyun’s pout dies the second he hears the seriousness of his godmother’s voice.

“Who’s the boy?”

“My son.” Diana pauses. “With Aeolus.”

“What?” Baekhyun’s head starts hurting. The God of Winds is married and, although he doesn't exactly live in the best terms with his mortal wife, she’s still the mother of a dozen demigods and would not take the news of a bastard son lightly. “How? When?”

“This is irrelevant right now, nephew. I feel in my heart my son is in danger.”

“Being the son of two powerful Gods, he should be able to defend himself.” Then it hits him. From what his aunt described so far, the boy should be in his mid-twenties now. “How come I never met him before? What are you not telling me, auntie?”

“He was raised as a common boy, his immortality and god-given powers deeply hidden within his soul by a powerful spell.”

“Why?”

“To protect him. To keep him away from my enemies. To allow him to live a normal life until it’s time for his awakening.” Diana sighs, profoundly. “By living a mortal life, he would have an inside knowledge of the struggles of modern society. And when it was time for him to rise, he would bring fresh air to Olympus.”

Baekhyun is astonished. He’s never seen his godmother look this fragile.

“Okay, I’ll protect him. What’s his name?”

TV Actor Oh Sehun confirmed to appear in ‘Pirates 2’

The action-comedy film will feature artists such as Kang Hana and Lee Kwangsoo and shooting begins next Summer. Sehun will portrait a handsome and sculpted pirate, one of the main characters,  who is good at archery. It will be his big screen debut, following the major success of the infamous Dokgo Rewind webtoon adaptation to the small screen.

Another accident shakes the ‘Pirates 2’ set in Jeju Island

It was reported today that a stuntman and actor Oh Sehun got stranded in fishing nets and almost drowned. They were taken to the hospital and released shortly, but shooting is on hold for the time being and will be resumed after safety measures are taken to prevent further incidents.

“Are you okay, Sehunnie?”

“I’m fine, hyung.” Sehun smiles and holds Baekhyun’s hands, reassuringly. They became inseparable ever since they met on the first day of shooting, their friendship being envied by many. “I can hold my breath longer than the others and I have you and your training to thank for.” he frowns, thinking. “Don’t you think it’s strange, though?”

“What?”

“The fishing nets being so close to the shore? And the fact that the scouting team didn’t see them when they were clearing the area for shooting?”

“They cleared the area last night and the fishing nets could have been brought by the high tide. It was just an accident.” Baekhyun dismisses.

“Third accident in a month, hyung. Maybe our set is cursed!” Sehun voices his fear and Baekhyun cracks a laugh and starts making fun of his friend, to take his head off the fact that he almost got killed just a couple of hours earlier.

The thing is, Baekhyun doesn’t believe in accidents nor coincidences. He’s too old and too skeptical for that. First was a loose rope during a climbing scene, then a malfunction on a scuba cylinder and today, fishing nets. Three accidents with one common denominator. And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what is going on.

Sehun’s being targeted.

So, after making sure Sehun eats his dinner and falls into dreamland in his bungalow, Baekhyun walks towards the beach. He needs to clear his mind if he wants to be one step ahead of whoever is targeting his protégé and he always thinks better when he’s underwater.

What Baekhyun fails to notice is that Sehun wasn’t so deep into sleep and woke up the minute he closed the bungalow’s front door. He walks to the front porch, just in time to watch Baekhyun taking off his clothes and entering the sea. Swimming at night can be dangerous, even for someone so experienced as his stunt trainer, and Sehun is about to call him out when he sees the water around Baekhyun lighting up. It’s beautiful… and weird. And it gets weirder when a couple of dolphins swims towards him and starts dancing around him.

Sehun leaves the porch and walks towards the beach. He’s curious and fascinated. He wants to ask Baekhyun how he’s doing that, but is stopped by two pairs of strong arms.

“What are you doing?” Sehun tries to break free, but they keep him under a strong hold. “Let me go!”

The men holding him ignore his pleas and start walking back towards the resort. “HEY!” The men halt as soon as they hear a deep voice coming from the sea. They turn on their tracks and Sehun has to blink multiple times to believe his eyes.

Baekhyun is coming out of the water with light surrounding him. He’s no longer naked, instead he’s dressed all in white. He has golden armor protecting his chest, and a coronet made of corals and adorned with turquoise gems is placed on his head.

“You have no business here, guardian!”

“I believe I do. Sehunnie there politely asked you to let him go, but you’re still holding him.” Baekhyun smirks. And it’s terrifying.

“Go back to the water, Fish-boy! You’re not supposed to interfere when it comes to mortals.”

“There are two things I despise the most about your kind, half-breed. One is your stupidity…”

“Watch your mouth, Nemo!”

“And the other is the disrespect.” All it takes is one blink of an eye for Baekhyun to get close to one of the men, grab him by his throat and squeeze it, effectively making him let go of Sehun. “We have not been properly introduced, but you may call me My Lord as I am the God of the East Sea!” A thunder echoes in the horizon, as if the heavens were suddenly awakened, while Baekhyun tosses the man in the middle of the ocean, like he’s weightless.

Sehun is speechless. Baekhyun, a God? He pinches himself. Maybe, I’m dreaming.

Baekhyun looks at the other man and tilts his head.

“You have a choice here. Release him and go away with your life. Or try doing something stupid and become fish snacks.” Baekhyun threatens and the man lets Sehun go. “Good choice. Now, run!”

But before the man can escape he’s hit by an arrow and drops, dead.

“I should’ve known better than to send half-breeds to execute godly’s work.” Baekhyun and Sehun turn their heads towards the voice. A man dressed in black is looking back at them.

“Son of Orcus.” Baekhyun grunts. “I should’ve guessed.”

“Son of Neptune.” the man greets. “What are you doing in dry land?”

“Protecting, as it was asked of me. What about you? Shouldn’t you be keeping the gates of the Underworld?”

“I was promised a mighty ramson for the mortal’s head. And I plan to collect it.” the Underworld God snaps his fingers and a dozen soldiers appear, out of nowhere, and start marching towards them.

“Hyu… I mean, my Lord. Shouldn’t we run and call security?” Sehun asks in fear.

“You can call me hyung, Sehunnie.” Baekhyun smiles. And it’s recomforting. “Stay here. I’ll take care of them.”

Baekhyun raises his right hand and a golden trident instantly appears. He holds it in a tight grip and smiles once more, before charging forward. Sehun stays behind and watches, astonished, Baekhyun fighting and killing the soldiers, one by one, dark-red blood staining the white sands of the beach.

“When are you planning to join the party, son of Orcus?” Baekhyun teases. “Defeating your minions is way too easy.”

But the Underworld God just smirks and makes another squad appear. Baekhyun defeats them easily, but every time Baekhyun defeats a squad, another comes to take their place. Sehun can see Baekhyun is getting tired, but there’s nothing he can do. He is only human.

“You are much more than that, my son.” Sehun gets startled by a hand on his right shoulder. He glances at his side and sees an elderly staring back at him, white hair and kind eyes.

“Are you a God as well?” the elder nods. “Then, help him.” Sehun points at Baekhyun, who’s just defeated another squad. But as he’s cleaning the blood of his trident, he is hit in the right shoulder by an arrow, making him stumble, in pain. The underworld God is holding a besta and it’s pointed at Baekhyun. “Please.”

The elder shakes his head. “He doesn’t need my help. He needs yours.”

“Mine? How?”

“Close your eyes, take a deep breath and let the air fill your body.” Sehun is unsure, but does as he’s told. “Now search... inside yourself… search for the hidden moon.” The elder touches Sehun’s chest and he feels like he’s being pulled by a strong draft.

The moon suddenly disappears from the sky and the night becomes so dark that it’s almost impossible to see what’s right ahead. Baekhyun takes the arrow off his shoulder and looks to the place where he left Sehun. And what he sees, leaves him speechless.

It’s like the moon descended from the sky and is now shining behind Sehun. The Underworld God aims his besta towards Sehun and magical arrows fly, one after another, as he keeps pulling the trigger.

“SEHUNNIE!”

At Baekhyun’s call, Sehun opens his eyes. He watches, unfazed, the arrows coming his way. He raises both hands up and a strong wind comes from behind him, sending the arrows up to the sky. Then Sehun downs his hands and points towards the underworld God, who disappears, leaving nothing but dozens of arrows spiked in the place where he was just standing.

The strong wind turns into a light breeze, surrounding Sehun. Baekhyun approaches him, taking the time to look at his true face for the first time. His skin is almost translucent and shines like it’s lightened by a thousand tiny stars. His eyes are lit and Baekhyun can see a thunderstorm inside his irises. He’s simply beautiful!

“Sehunnie?” Baekhyun holds his hands. “We’re safe now.”

Sehun comes out of his trance, black eyes staring at Baekhyun.

“Baekhyun hyung… you’re hurt.”

“Nahhh, it’s nothing. But you...” he squeezes Sehun’s hands. “You were amazing.”

“I was? How did I do it? I mean, one minute I was… me, then this old guy showed up and told me to search for the moon… and I felt this energy coming from inside me and then I could bend the air?” Sehun speaks fast and Baekhyun smiles.

“The God in you woke up.”

“I’m a God like you?” Baekhyun nods and Sehun smiles back. “People will have to start calling me My Lord?”

Baekhyun laughs.

“There are a few things you need to learn before that. But first, I need to bathe to heal my wounds.”

“Wait! If I’m like you, does it mean you no longer need to protect me? Are you going to leave me, hyung?”

Sehun looks sad and Baekhyun hugs him.

“Never. I will never leave you, Sehunnie.”

Notes:

Oh my goddess! It was so hard to cut this story short, but I hope you guys got the idea 💖

In case you're curious, Baekhyun is around 3000 years old (and that's what I call an age gap 🤣🤣) and when he calls the demigods he meets at the beach "half-breeds" he's being ironic and condescending.
