The Gods as They Deem

Summary:

In the beginning, there was none but Mercy the Goddess, the earth, and her people. She set and rose the sun and moon, blessed fields with clouds and rain, and pushed the winds and waters; she presented the earth with fertility, gave the people wisdom, and aided the same people with knowledge. And yet, somehow, she was able to stay kind to whoever she encountered, whatever they may look like.

However, over time, some saw this kindness as a weakness and decided to manipulate it, use it to their advantage. As more and more people attempted to exploit her kindness, she became stressed and sought help.

Or: A one-off story based loosely and somewhat on the All-Star skins.

Work Text:

In the beginning, there was none but Mercy the Goddess, the earth, and her people. She set and rose the sun and moon, blessed fields with clouds and rain, and pushed the winds and waters; she presented the earth with fertility, gave the people wisdom, and aided the same people with knowledge. And yet, somehow, she was able to stay kind to whoever she encountered, whatever they may look like.

However, over time, some saw this kindness as a weakness and decided to manipulate it, use it to their advantage. As more and more people attempted to exploit her kindness, she became stressed and sought help.

The God of Earth: Earth-Shatterer

First, Mercy the Goddess of All looked for help to present the earth with fertility. She looked and looked and found a man who, despite the hardships he faced, fought to protect his country’s people, even if it included backlash.

Disguising herself, she approached the man and tested him. If he was to choose the better for himself or for his people, which would he choose? She, disguised as a small girl, a child, warned him of biological weapons attacking the castle, claiming she “saw them coming.” When they arrived, he joined his fellow teammates, titled Crusaders, and their army to stop them. At first, the man failed; he was putting his reputation before the good of his assigned army team and, therefore, the good of his people. It was the commander of his Crusader team, contrastingly, who convinced him that his look was convoluted, troubled, flawed. The man, as it seemed, had a change of heart, as he charged out to protect his team and his people.

Successful.

Mercy inducted the man as a god. She presented him with the earth and its fertility. He earned a godly name that same day: Earth-Shatterer.

The Goddess of Water: Tide Blinker

Secondly, she sought out one who would help her push the waters. She wandered for countless days, and soon, she caught word of a navigator of a new, experimental ship crew, a young woman who acted courageously, selflessly, and happily.

She decided to test the woman. She disguised herself and gave a mission to the crew. Take the ship out, and see if it worked. However, she made the ship faulty. Among the panic and despite her own, the woman acted courageously and took up the mantle of the captain, helping calm her crew.

Successful.

Mercy guided the boat home and inducted the woman as a goddess. She presented her with the ability to push waters and their tides. She earned a godly title that same day: Tide Blinker.

The God of Wisdom: The Transcendent Harmony

Thirdly, the Goddess of All searched for one to share her wisdom. She sought someone who was careful and caring, quick thinking yet thoughtful. She looked to the place of mountains and cold. She searched across the lands, the grounds, the countries, and fell upon a monastery, sitting on the base of the tallest, snowiest mountain laying upon the earth. The Goddess of All observed the monks amongst the monastery, and the one who stood out to her was the one who lost his temper the least.

She tested him with an angry individual, someone who experienced many a-moment of anguish, someone who she herself had saved and who she grew fond of. No matter how often the individual attacked him in anger, lashed out tensely, or denied him, the monk kept his own temper in check, didn’t let the situations get tense, or snap back. He just kept his cool and took it, spinning the moments into lessons, rather than moments into discipline, and cared for the individual, rather than turn him away.

Successful.

She gave him the gift of wisdom. He earned a godly title that day: the .

The Goddess of Wind: The Concussive Khamaseen

Fourthly, she sought for someone who would help her push the winds. She searched widely, like she did with the God of Earth. Her searching soon led her to the place of heat and sand, where she found a troop of fighters fighting for their land.

At the helm of the aviary fighters was a woman, tattooed under the eye. She commanded her troop almost with ease. The Goddess of All disguises herself and finds out more about this woman, tattooed under the eye. Trying to get out of her mother’s shadow; still wanting to go into the fighting. Protecting her people, whilst using the air.

Mercy decided to test the woman. If she was to find out her mother, her idol, was not, in fact, dead and instead was still living well, how would the woman act upon her emotions? Would she grow angry and explode? Or rather, would she grow happy and grow with it? She disguised herself and found the woman’s mother before planting a reason to send her back to the place of heat and sand.

The woman handled it calmly in spite of her anger, yet instead of giving into said anger, she used it as a motivation, guiding the conversation.

Successful.

She gave her the gift of wind. She earned a goldy title that day: The Concussive Khamaseen.

The Goddess of Rain: Stormy Mecha

Fifthly, the Goddess of All sought one who would help her with the rains. She looked and looked and found a girl who gave up everything to protect her country from ghosts, despite having her life placed in her hand. She decided to test the girl. If given the option to fight alone or fight with help, which would the girl choose? If she was provided with help, would she take it?

She triggered the ghosts and disguised herself as a citizen. She asked if others saw what she saw in the sky, and panic promptly was amiss, calling the girl to action. At first, she was failing, for she sought help from none other but herself. After seeing her struggle, the Goddess of All saw that the girl came to a realization and asked a friend for help.

Successful.

Mercy gave her the gift of rain. She earned a godly title that day: Stormy Mecha.

The God of Daylight: Light-Barrier

Lastly, Mercy needed to find who would aid her in rising and setting the sun. She struggled to find the right one who would help her rise and set the sun, for said one would need to fill big shoes and aid her in decisions. In the end, however, her searching ended in vain.

She, on the contrary, found a people who could help her. She had found a couple who struggled to have children, no matter how many times they knew each other, yet the couple still found reasons to stay optimistic. They had a goat of whom supported them, and the couple seemed content with how little money they made from the goat’s products. She decided to test them. What would they do in her name? Would they follow her, or would they stray from her?

The Goddess of All called to the couple. Take their livelihood, their only source of money, to the bankside and offer it up in her name, for she called for a sacrifice. To her surprise, they made their way to the bank to do as they were told.

Success.

Before they dealt a lethal blow, she stepped down and told them that they had succeeded. She made an offer to the couple. If she blessed them with a child of whom would grow up to come to the heavens with her, she would make them prosperous. Again to her surprise, they instead asked for the community instead to become prosperous, not themselves. She agreed.

And thus, Light-Bringer, God of Sun, was born with a name that meant just that: Lúcio.
