Work Text:

feeling infinite.

It’s an adrenaline rush. Sometimes it’s subdued, most times it feels like you’re on top of the world. Think of climbing a mountain, and that feeling when you’re just about to reach the peak. That feeling, of being infinite, is when you feel the wind on your face and there is the anticipation of relief.

Or, this feeling comes when you’re driving in a car with no destination. You’re surrounded by friends, windows down, music blaring, and you’re all singing along. This feeling, experiencing it with friends especially, captures the moment forever.

feeling infinite.

It’s when you’re laying in the bed of a truck in a nest of blankets, staring up at the night sky. Fireworks are not essential, but stars are. While you’re laying there, instead of thinking of looking up at the sky, try something else. Think of yourself looking down at the stars, like gravity is the only thing stopping you from joining the stars. It might be scary at first, but trust me, the feeling of almost falling is worth it when it brings the feeling of infinity that we’re all after.

Chasing this feeling, especially in quarantine, can be difficult. This is why it takes much less now for us to find it. FaceTiming with friends, laughing until your ribs and cheeks hurt, that is how we find this feeling nowadays.

But most of all, feeling infinite in a moment is being able to look back on a memory and think, “I want to feel that way again.” Feeling infinite is a wistful nostalgia, a want for more of a specific type of happiness and adventure, that makes a moment live in your mind forever.
