Chapter Text
Chongyun's pov:
I love seeing him. Why wouldn't I? He's my best friend and I'm his. I obviously know he's lying about spirit sightings, but I just play along with Xingqiu, he loves his quiet time alone nose hidden by the pages of those books with fancy words he keeps reading. I often wonder what they're about since he seems so immersed in them.
I love it when he reads to me even though I don't really understand what he's learning about. It's all about his voice. It's so calming and gentle, almost like he's whispering about a secret only I can know about, something just between us two.
Behind his attitude and snarky little comments I can see his loneliness. He's too afraid to show his true feelings. Xingqiu thinks no one wants a needy and clingy friend.
But I do. I want his touch. I would do anything for him. I'm his best friend after all.
Xiangling too. We're all a big family, though something's different with him. Maybe it's just because we understand each other more.
Maybe it's because he makes me feel stuff I've never felt before. Why do I feel a rush of adrenaline when he lets me lay my head on his lap and plays with my hair while he's reading? Why do I feel like time stops in its tracks when he does it? I don't want him to stop. I want to stay there with him stroking my hair under that tree forever. This is what best friends do, right?
But if we're best friends... why do I always think about his soft lips pressing against mine?
