Work Text:
It was still dark when Wonwoo woke up seeing Mingyu fixing himself in the bathroom. He silently walks up to the younger and hugs him from the back, sleepiness is still evident in his eyes. Mingyu jumped at the older's action and smiled at him through the mirror, "Hey," Mingyu said softly "get ready we're going somewhere" which Wonwoo groaned to.
The couple exited the apartment they bought after they graduated college, it was simple and small not too extravagant but just enough for them to make it their home. They soon entered their car, Wonwoo still sleepy as he walks to the passenger seat, letting Mingyu drive as he doesn't know where they're going. He rested his head to the window slightly startled from the cold the window felt. He stared at Mingyu, who turned his head to him from time to time and caressing his hand or thigh with a gentle smile plastered on his face. "Where are we going?" Wonwoo asked silently as he watch the streetlights dance in the eyes as they drove pass them "Soon you'll find out" Mingyu spoke, squeezing the his hand.
Mingyu parked the car at the side of the road as they approach the beach. The chilling breeze pierced through Wonwoo's clothes making him shiver a little. Mingyu locked the car and faced the older, stretching his hand to reach for Wonwoo's while the other is holding what seemed to be a bag. Wonwoo excitedly dragged the younger to the shore, laughing as Mingyu almost tripped among the scattered rocks that must have been swept by the sea. They decided to get settled down in the sand near the shore, hearing the waves crashing through each other under the moon and stars which glows really bright that night. The couple simply sat there, not even talking but admiring the view and being comforted with each other's company. Wonwoo's back against Mingyu's chest while his arms are wrapped aroung the older, their fingers interwined.
Wonwoo knew why Mingyu brought him here, and the reason why the younger's hold of him is getting tighter every passing minute. "So, are you finally ready to let me go?" Wonwoo asked as he felt Mingyu breathe deeper, the tears he tried to hold back flowed through his eyes. "No, not yet. please stay by my side a little longer" Mingyu gasped. The older of the two let go and walked a little closer to the shore, Mingyu watched as Wonwoo looked up from the stars and turn his head to his direction, the moonlight illuminating Wonwoo's face, highlighting his features more which made Mingyu's heart break even more. He looked ethereal, too beautiful to shatter Mingyu's heart into a million pieces. He streched his hand in which Mingyu held tight and enveloped him with a tight embrace. "That night," Wonwoo whispered through Mingyu's ear "It wasn't your fault".
"No, it was mine. If I hadn't start a fight with you that night you— you wouldn't have been—" Wonwoo looked at the younger with a sad smile, gently wiping his tears away. He led Mingyu to the bag he brought earlier and asked him to open it. It was a vase— no, it was an urn. Wonwoo's.
"It's time Gyu," Wonwoo smiled sadly towards the younger "I love you, always." He said as Mingyu felt what seemed to be a soft breeze against his lips. Mingyu fell down on his knees as he cried his eyes out, still mourning after his lost lover.
His eyes shifting from sadness to anger as he scatter Wonwoo's ashes to the ocean who took his life. Sorrow and regret filled his heart with passion but as he remembered Wonwoo's words that night, all he remembered was his love and longing for the older, the bond they shared that even death couldn't sever.
"I love you too, hyung" Mingyu whispers to himself as he look up to the stars, hoping that the words reach the other.
