Movie Night

Summary:

A one shot of a Healstorm movie night near Halloween

Work Text:

“Come onnnn,” Jett pleaded, “It’ll be funnnn.”

“Hmph,” Sage replied, sticking her nose up in the air.

Jett quickly closed the distance between them, a soft breeze following her. She playfully pinned Sage to the wall, pushing her lips into the healer’s. “Please?” Jett murmured into her girlfriend's lips. “It’s almost Halloween.” She didn’t give Sage any time to respond, passionately deepening the kiss with her healer.

The pair heard a small cough behind them. Jett whipped around, beet red. Sage slowly opened her eyes, her ebony hair disheveled and her clothes slightly wrinkled. She saw Raze standing in front of them, and turned the deepest shade of red Jett had ever seen. Raze slowly studied the pair. “Yo, get a room you two,” she remarked, before opening the door to Killjoy’s quarters and walking in, gently closing it behind her.

Jett and Sage stared at each other in momentary confusion, then burst out into fits of giggling. Killjoy and Raze, who would have thought? Jett put a finger to Sage’s lips, winked, then pressed her and the healer’s ears against the door. “I love you, minha querida,” they heard Raze purr. As they backed away, Sage locked eyes with Jett, “Fine, we can watch your movie.”

Jett let out a little squeal of excitement. She quietly took Sage by the hand and led her down the hallway to her own quarters. Stepping inside, the wind runner flicked the lights on and told Sage to go get comfortable, accidentally slamming the door in the process. The other agents let out annoyed shouts, but Jett wasn’t listening, she was thrilled to spend time with Sage.

The monk smiled as she watched Jett race around the rooms, haphazardly throwing a blanket and pillows on the couch, and ending up in the kitchen. No wonder the duelist’s quarters were so messy, she always had to do everything as fast as possible.

Sage heard the sound of pots and pans rattling around in the kitchen and got curious what Jett was up to. Walking in, she saw the ex-chef gently pouring popcorn kernels into a medium pot with a shallow layer of oil on the bottom. “Pulling out all the stops, huh?” Jett blushed at the healer’s question. “What’s a movie without popcorn?” She retorted. Sage couldn’t help but laugh and slowly padded up behind Jett, wrapping her arms around the wind runner’s waist.

Sage kissed Jett softly on the back of the neck, then on her cheek, wordlessly begging the younger woman to tear her attention away from the stove for a few seconds. Jett spoke in a faint whine as the kernels began to pop, “Babeeee, I have to focus on this or it’ll burn.” Sage sighed, she knew how one track Jett’s mind could be after so many missions with her, and that she would have to wait.

Sage occupied herself by grabbing a bowl for the popcorn and pulling the gallon of water out of Jett’s surprisingly organized fridge. Her girlfriend watched her as Sage found the two glasses she had given Jett as a Valentine’s Day present earlier this year, filling the glass with wind patterns on it just a little more than her own with a small orb.

The popcorn was finished popping and Jett dumped it into the bowl, turned the heat off and set the pot aside. She grabbed it and began the march to the couch, Sage in tow with the two filled glasses.

“Watch this.”

Jett flung the bowl from her arms and padded its landing on the coffee table with a small tornado of wind from her twirling finger. “Impressive,” giggled Sage, she had become used to these sudden outbursts from her girlfriend, and found them adorable. “You really think so?” Jett looked genuinely intrigued, as if she thought Sage was lying to her. “Yes, although after seeing that it’s no wonder why your room is so messy.” Jett blushed, the latter part of the sentence was lost on her after the approval from Sage.

The two women sit on opposite sides of the cute sky blue couch (“It’s a better experience that way”, Jett informs Sage). The movie starts quite gruesomely, something Sage should have expected from a horror movie, though it still makes her feel a little uneasy. Jett tells her that she chose something light, and Sage wonders what in the hell heavy is to the wind runner at this point.

Sage is no stranger to blood and grisly injuries, of course. That’s par for the course in the life of a field medic. But something about the way it’s portrayed on the screen makes her queasy. Maybe it’s the excessive amount, or the suspense and scares mixed between, she can’t quite put her finger on it. She looks at Jett, who is thoroughly absorbed in it, and slowly starts to slide her way.

Jett is oblivious to Sage’s movements beside her. She is busy chowing down on the popcorn in the bowl in between her and the healer, focused on the screen. Except suddenly, right before the climax of the movie, the popcorn is gone? Jett feels a hand on her thigh, and is surprised to look over and see her girlfriend so close. Sage is completely flushed of all color, she looks as white as a sheet of paper. The wind runner gently brushes a hand through Sage’s hair, “What’s the matter babe?” The healer just shook her head and motioned for Jett to lean back on the couch, which she did, intrigued.

Jett was surprised to see Sage lay down, her head on the wind runner’s chest. The duelist was taken aback by the role reversal, normally she was laying on Sage. She gingerly, awkwardly wrapped her arms around her girlfriend’s shaky frame, “It’s the movie isn’t it?” Sage nods, and buries herself in Jett. She can already feel herself becoming more relaxed, and hears the movie pause. “We don’t have to keep watching it then, okay?” Another nod. Jett has to suppress a giggle at the sight of Sage’s ponytail bouncing up and down.

“Thank you,” the younger woman feels the words more than she hears them. “Of course Sage,” she says while rubbing her healer’s back, “I love you.” The wind runner is surprisingly comfortable, and Sage soon relaxed enough to fall asleep, followed by Jett just a short while later.
