Flowers in your hair

Summary:

Shoto loves the sound of Izuku's voice and the feeling of calloused fingers threading through his hair. Lucky for him, Izuku is more than willing to indulge him.

Notes:

HC: Izuku weaving specific types of flowers into Shou’s hair and muttering to him about the meanings of each one as Shoto listens the whole time.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Crooked fingers thread through his hair, gentle but determined. Shoto sighs at the feeling and, without realising, he tilts his head back, eyes fluttering shut.

'Dahilia's represent a lasting bond and commitment.' Izuku brushes past Shoto's ear as he weaves the aforementioned flower into his hair. 'Not that we need a flower to prove that our bond is strong, but still, I think they're pretty.'

'Mmm, you're pretty.' Shoto hums easily, earning him a gentle flick to his nose.

'Hush, you.' There's affection laced with humour in his voice. 'I'll give you pretty.'

'Yes, please.'

Izuku snorts as he shuffles behind him. Shoto turns to look, but is quickly stopped by his partner flashing another flower in front of him.

'A single orchid.' Izuku explains as he then moves it towards his hair. 'I had Yaoyorozu-san make me one because I'd have felt bad cutting a real one.'

Shoto smiles. Typical, considerate Izuku.

'Orchids represent a rare and delicate beauty - not that you're delicate at all, Shouchan! In fact, I'd say the opposite. You're so strong and your determination is inspiring, but I agree that you're a rare beauty. In fact, I don't think there's anyone in the world like you.' Shoto can't see him, but he knows Izuku is smiling fondly. 'You're gorgeous, unique. Nothing about you is plain, like me-'

'Izuku.' He warns.

'I'm sorry.' His partner rubs the back of his neck before moving onto the next flower. 'This is a gerbera. I used to dislike orange, but I think this shade is rather nice, especially in your hair. It represents innocence and purity, cheer and... and loyal love.'

A thumb strokes his cheek and Shoto turns his head to press a kiss to Izuku's palm. He says nothing, but he knows his partner understands. They've proven their loyalty to one another countless times, even before they knew what they had between them was love.

Izuku chuckles and slowly pulls his hand away to wrap his arms around his shoulders from behind, nuzzling his freckled cheek against Shoto's. One hand presses against his chest, no doubt feeling the rhythmic beating of his heart, while the other holds a scarlet tulip in front of them.

'You know this one, don't you?' When Shoto nods, Izuku presses a kiss to the area between his eyelid and his eyebrow. 'Well, tulips in general represent love, but I prefer red ones, especially on you. Do you wanna know why?'

'I do.'

Izuku lifts his hand to slot the flower behind Shoto's ear, contrasting against the snowy half of his hair.

'Because red tulips represent true love and that's only the beginning of what you are to me.'

Shoto turns to face him, only to find Izuku already close. Heavy-lidded eyes stare at him, a blush forming as he leans closer. Shoto finds himself mirroring the action.

'I could say the same thing, Izuku.' He whispers against slightly parted lips, before meeting his partner for a languid kiss.

After all, flowers only blossom in the presence of their beaming sun.
