That was too close for comfort.
If I hadn’t gotten there when I had, who knows what could have happened to her?
Will They come back for her?
These were the thoughts that ran through Madoka Kaguya’s head as she collapsed into the corner booth of the McDonald’s she had just entered. She could hear her companion ordering something at the front counter, comforted by the sound of the younger girl’s voice.
Taking the chance to look around the restaurant, she felt some relief that there weren’t too many people around to see her in her currently disheveled state.
That makes sense, most people aren’t really in the mood for a bite to eat around 3 a.m.
Feeling the adrenaline beginning to leave her system, Madoka gradually became aware of a few things. The first was the weight of her archery kit slung across her shoulder, which she decided to deposit in the seat next to her. The second was the soreness beginning to develop in her arms and shoulders from having to draw and fire so many arrows at Them so quickly. She was definitely going to feel that during her classes tomorrow.
And the third thing she noticed was her appearance, reflected in the large glass panes. The absolute state of her school uniform, now torn in several places, slightly charred in others and covered in drying stains of a strange blue liquid. How her hair was not only sticking up in a few areas but definitely shouldn’t have that burned chunk missing at the end. However the thing that concerned her most was the slight maniacal look in her eyes, the same kind of look that appears when the stress of her commitments starts to get to her.
I must look like some kind of high school delinquent.
“Hey, food’s here!”
The sound pulled her gaze away from her reflection and towards the pink haired girl now occupying the booth seat across from her.
“Here you go, I ordered you something. I would have got us some ice cream too but apparently the machine is broken…”
Taking the paper wrapped burger offered to her, she began to eat in silence as the girl across from her began to go off on a tangent about a conspiracy theory involving broken machines and dark secret in the government.
The pink haired girl, Hoshina Hikaru, seemed to be in a better state than her own. While her uniform was covered in the occasional splatter of blue, it lacked the tears and scorch marks that Madoka’s sported. Meanwhile if Hikaru’s hair was disheveled it was no more so than normal. What concerned Madoka most was how she didn’t seem to be bothered at all by what they had just gone through.
She was in some sort of trance when I got there, so maybe she doesn’t remember that much of it. They looked more than happy to fire those energy beams at me, but judging by her appearance didn’t seem to be aiming at her.
As Hikaru continued talking in her usual animated fashion, Madoka reflected on the situation she had just gotten herself and Hikaru out of.
They had shown up. They were able to track her down and were this close to getting their slimy appendages on her. They had placed Hikaru into some kind of hypnotic state and They had been this close to taking her.
They were aliens.
The week after Madoka had found Hikaru moping around the observatory one night after school, strange frequencies had begun to be picked up by equipment in the old observatory deck. Hikaru’s first reaction was to immediately label them as alien and start investigating them every day for the next few months.
The idea of aliens was nothing new to the two girls, they had even befriended some during their time as Precure the year before. Hikaru and Madoka had saved the universe from a renegade Star Princess alongside their friends Elena, Lala and Yuni. Lala and Yuni, along with Prunce and Fuwa, were aliens that Madoka considered close friends.
They were nothing like Lala and Yuni.
Madoka knew that as soon as she saw Them in the warehouse that Hikaru had tracked their signal to. They were standing in a circle around a blank-eyed Hikaru as a strange energy swirled around. They were tall and thin, with taut gray skin that seemed to be too tight on their bodies. They had large black eyes that didn’t blink and a small mouth that didn’t speak. They were absolutely terrifying to look at.
They also seemed to bleed blue blood.
“Earth to Madoka, Everything okay? They didn’t zap you in the head or something, right?”
The question snapped the exhausted high school student back to her surroundings, mainly to the pink haired girl now waving her hand in front of her face.
“I’m fine,” she replied before continuing. “So you do remember what just happened?”
“Yeah, I do,” answered Hikaru before fixing her with a teasing look.
“I really liked the part where you screamed ‘Get away from my Hikaru, you extraterrestrial assholes!’”
I had really hoped that was just in my head.
As Madoka tried her best not to choke on the last bite of her burger, Hikaru continued speaking.
“I had hoped that those aliens could give me a clue on how to get back into space, but I guess they just wanted to abduct me.”
Leaning across the table to plant a kiss on the older girl’s cheek, she added.
“Thanks for getting me out of there, Madoka.”
Having barely freed herself from a near burger-induced death, Madoka now faced the threat of death from her face overheating.
As she sat there blushing, exhausted, and covered in alien blood. The only thought she had, was that the kiss had made whatever she had been through tonight worth it.
Well it wasn’t exactly the only thought she had.
I really have to restock on arrows after school tomorrow.
