Keigo should be asleep, it's late, he's in the comfort of his own bed in his own apartment, and he's got you with him- you both prefer the silence of Keigo's place over your roommates with no concept of privacy. Basically, Keigo has no reason to still be awake. But of course his dumb bird instincts had to kick in.
Keigo's room has windows. It was one of the only things he'd requested when looking for a place to stay, and most of the time he loves it, still being able to look out and see most of the city from a high point of view when he can't go out and fly. But now...it's dark, so the surrounding buildings have their lights on, casting it into the dark room and reflecting off of the bracelet you forgot to take off before you fell asleep. The metal looks...shiny.
Keigo can't stop staring at the bracelet. Every time you shift it'll change how the light hits the beads, and Keigo is hit with the urge to play with them. He starts by just taking your hand in his own, turning it over, fixated by how the light moves. He does it for a while, but eventually one of his talons catches on a bead and it makes a clicking sound and oh, he likes that. So he does it again. And again. Running his hand over yours until his talons catch the beads and it makes a little clicking sound and his bird brain loves it. He stops thinking about what he's doing, just letting his instincts handle it for him, but he's snapped out of it when he feels something snap and. Oh.
Keigo dug one of his talons under the string of the bracelet and it snapped. And when he looks up, you're staring down at him. Awake. "Keigo, what're you doing? Go to bed..." You grumble, obviously still tired, but you aren't mad, more confused than anything.
How does Keigo even explain this? He laughs awkwardly, figuring out what to say, because "Oh, your jewelry is shiny, I need to take it" makes him sound like a child. An impulsive child, and the Commission trained him out of that. "It's...a bird thing," is what he settles with instead.
You laugh, because that's kind of cute, and reach up to run a hand through his hair. That's when you notice the lack of a bracelet on your wrist and the fact that the bed is full of beads. "Did you…?"
Keigo winces at the look on your face. "Sorry, wasn't paying attention, then the string snapped, and..."
You roll your eyes because you're way too tired to get upset like he's apparently expecting you to. "It's fine, Kei, it's just a bracelet. I can go out and get another one tomorrow."
Keigo nods, but he still has that guilty look on his face as you help him pick up the beads. As if you're lying about not being upset so he doesn't feel bad. You get up to set the beads down on the nightstand so you're not sleeping on top of them, and turn to look at him. "Don't worry about it, okay? Let's go out tomorrow and get matching ones so you don't have to mess with mine when you want something shiny."
He flashes a smile to match yours, he's so pretty when he smiles, and pulls you down to lay on the bed with him, laughing at your surprised yelp. He lays half on top of you, on his stomach so he doesn't crush his own wings, and throws an arm over your waist. He presses a goodnight kiss to your neck and lets his wings stretch out to cover both of you.
"Thanks, lovebird."
