Sam finally woke up when his phone rang for the third time. He looked down to notice Bucky laying on his chest so Sam reached over to the nightstand to grab his phone without moving too much.
“What?” Sam sounded annoyed with his hoarse morning voice.
“Sam, what did you do?” Anna said. Anna was Sam’s publicist. The government insisted when Sam became Captain America. Anna took her job very seriously but sometimes she took it too seriously.
“What are you talking about?” Sam was still trying to wake up. He had a long night with Bucky after they got back from dinner.
“Turn on the news.” Sam sighed as he hung up and reached for the controller and turned on the tv. Good Morning America was playing.
“Did you see those pictures? Captain America and the Winter Soldier looked very cozy last night as they went out to eat sushi.” The blonde woman said.
“They’re probably just friends. Friends go out to eat dinner together.” The man sitting across from the blonde woman said.
“True but someone got a few shots of what looks like Cap placing his hands where you don’t normally when you’re just friends.” Sam felt Bucky stirring and he looked down to notice Bucky slowly opening his eyes.
“What’s going on?” Bucky asked noticing the tv was on.
“They’re talking about us.” That woke up Bucky and he sat up to look at the screen to notice a close up of Sam’s hand resting on his thigh.
“This just begs the question, are they friends or are they more? I feel like America has a right to know.” The man said which just caused Sam to roll his eyes. Sam muted the tv not wanting to hear any more speculations about his relationship with Bucky.
Sam turned to Bucky to notice he was probably freaking out. Which he was right. Bucky just stared at the tv as a bunch of pictures from their date last night played on the tv. Bucky knew this might happen when he thought about dinner last night but it still felt like a lot to him. He hated being the center of attention and this just pushed him further into the spotlight.
“Baby?” Bucky turned to Sam to notice a concerned expression on his face, “You alright?”
Bucky passed his fingers through his hair unsure on how he feels about this, “I-I don’t know.”
“Hey, what do you want to do?” Bucky looked at Sam confused, “Do you want to keep them guessing about our relationship or should we just let them know?”
Bucky looked down at his hands as he was lost in thought. He knew what would happen if they told everyone. Everyone would look at Bucky more than they already did. But it would keep people from flirting with Sam all the time especially in front of him. It would also keep Sam from having to keep him a secret. Bucky knows how much Sam hated being a secret. Sam wanted them to go out on more than just missions. It was nice their relationship just being between them but it was definitely time to tell everyone.
“They should know. I think it’s time.”
“You sure?” Sam asked for assurance, “There is no going back after this.”
“Yeah. I’m tired of sharing you with everyone. It’s time they know that you’re mine.” Bucky gives Sam a soft passionate kiss as they fell back into bed. Sam wrapped his arms around him as he pulled him closer to him. Sam only stopped because Bucky was probably still sore from last night.
Bucky went off to make them some breakfast while Sam grabbed his phone and called Anna. He leaned against the doorframe as he watched Bucky work in the kitchen.
“So what do I tell them?”
“Tell them that Captain America is happily taken by an introvert with a robot arm.” Sam chuckles at the raised eyebrow he gets from Bucky as he overhears what he said.
“And if they want an interview or something?”
“Then that’s too bad. The details of my relationship are none of their business so let’s keep it that way.”
“You got it.” Anna hung up and probably got to work to let the whole world know about them.
Sam walked into the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Bucky as he rested his head on his shoulder. “So I’m an introvert with a robot arm?”
“100% but that’s just the way I like you.” They both laugh as Bucky is trying to crack some eggs but Sam is not letting him move away from him.
