Words Left Unsaid

Summary:

Letters that Lucas may or may not send to Morgan. Set at different times during the series.

Work Text:

Letter #1: Post-Bakery

Dear Morgan,

So… it’s been a crazy week, huh? Kidnappers, a giant bounty on my head, unexpected softness and cruelty from someone I care about. Yeah, it’s been a lot. Look, I know you probably hate this kind of stuff, but I just needed to put down what I had to say.

I really like you. A lot. Too much. I would blame you for being so fucking charming, but… you had told me from the beginning what this was. What we were. So, I’m sorry for that. It’s kind of weird to say sorry for liking someone, but hey, in our line of work anything can happen, right?

Like I said, it’s been stressful these past few days. So, I don’t entirely blame you for what happened at Haley’s. But, did you have to say it out loud, in front of my friends? The whole town was there, Morgan. And yeah, I get it, you don’t like people, your hypersenses were probably going through the roof. But… I don’t know why I’m doing this. You and I had clearly different ideas about our relationship, and I took things too far. So, the only thing I can do is say I’m sorry.

No, screw that.

You don’t just kiss someone like that and then throw them away! I don’t care if you were tense, I don’t care if Haley’s floral arrangements were freaking you out, you don’t do that to people. I don’t even think you know you’re sending these hot and cold signals towards people. Pick a damn lane!

Shit, what am I doing? I know I’m not going to be able to give this to you. Do I honestly think I can look you in the eyes after letting you read this? I can barely talk to you now.

And, to be honest, that’s the worst part.

I thought I could talk to you. I thought that deep down somewhere you gave a crap about me, about whether or not I was ok, about what I was saying. And, believe it or not, I liked talking to you. You’re funny, and it’s clear that even though you put on this tough exterior you still care about the Unit. Guess I thought that included me too. But, I was wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.

So, I guess we’re “broken up” now? Can I even call it then really? Technically, this isn’t a relationship. Well, whatever this is was I still want you to be happy. You deserve that. We both do.

-Lucas

Inside the Detective’s Warehouse Bedroom

I put down the pen on the paper, taking a deep breath. Folding the paper in half, I stand up ready to deliver this important message to Morgan. Suddenly, a bout of dizziness forces me to sit back down.

I can’t do this.

Grumbling,  I crumple up the letter, throwing it into the trash.

Well, there goes letter number six. Seventh time’s the charm, as they always say.

So, I sit down, readying my pen to pour my heart out for a message I know I can never send.
