Work Text:
Peter and Ned were already at their table when you entered the cafeteria. You made your way through the maze of tables and students to finally plop down beside Peter, “Hey guys!” you flipped some of your (black/brown) hair off your shoulder and sighed.
You pulled out a to-go bag and dumped it upside down to reveal a plethora of snacks and a tupperware. Peter took one of the bags that was teal and had a cartoon of a blonde girl on it, “Chiz curls?”
“They’re like Cheeto puffs, but less cheesy and messy.”
“Oh! Dried mangos! Dude, can I have some?” Ned asked excitedly.
You laughed, “Sure, Ned. Go for it.”
“Yes!” your friend said as he ripped opened the package and plucked out a strip of the dried fruit.
Peter looked at all of the colorful packages, “Where’d you get all this stuff?”
“We go to an Asian market in Chinatown. These snacks are what my Lola used to bring me from the Philippines every time she visited.” you ripped open the bag of Chiz Curls and offered it to Peter.
He took a piece and popped it in his mouth. Munching on the snack and coming to a conclusion, “Cheetos are better.”
You nudged him with your shoulder, playfully scolding him, “Hey! Don’t diss on my favorite snack! This is my childhood right here.”
“Y/N, you still are a child,” Ned says, snacking on another piece of dried mango.
You threw a Chiz Curl at him, “Says the guy who still likes playing with Legos!”
It was Peter’s turn to playfully scold you, “Wait a minute, we don’t play with them. We simply build them.”
You snickered, “Peter, that’s playing with them.” You took another bag of chips, it was orange and had a picture of a shrimp on it. You opened it and offered a piece to Peter, “Now try this one.”
He did and grimaced, “That’s very shrimpy!” he took his water bottle and had a few gulps.
You rolled your eyes, “They’re shrimp chips what did you expect.”
Peter decided to go for more Chiz Curls instead of the shrimp chips, “Do you get these a lot?”
You shook your head, “Not as much as I’d like. With my parents being so busy with work, I have no one to take me there and my parents will definitely not let me go by myself. They’re kinda strict about me going out.”
You looked to Ned who was eating away at your bag of shrimp chips, “You know what would go great with all this? Sarsi.”
You scoffed and pulled out a bottle of said drink from your backpack, “Ta-da!”
Peter looked at the bottle, “You guys even got your own soda?”
“It’s really good. It’s kinda like if you mixed Root Beer, Dr. Pepper, and Coke together. Maybe. I don’t know, but it’s sooo good!”
Peter watched as you drank the Filipino soda and chowed down on the rest of your snacks. Seeing your eyes light up from eating this snacks got him thinking….
The next week at lunch it was just you and Ned at the table. You two were talking about your Spanish test when Peter sat beside you holding two shopping bags.
You looked at the bags and then at him, “Whatcha go there, Peter?”
“I got some stuff for you!” he dumped the contents out of the bags and your jaw dropped. Laid out before you were all the colorful packages of Filipino snacks you had brought the week previously, “Oh!” he swung his backpack over his shoulder and pulled out three bottles of Sarsi, “One for each of us!”
“Peter, I-ho-whe-why?” you couldn’t even form words properly because you were in shock.
He shrugged his shoulder and nervously rubbed the back of his neck, “Well, I, uh, noticed how happy you were to have these snacks from your childhood. So last night, Aunt May drove me to an Asian market so I can get these snacks for you.”
You pulled Peter into a hug, “You are so sweet! I can’t believe you would do this for me!” you kissed his cheek and then put your attention onto the snacks, not knocking that you left Peter blushing hard.
Subtly, Ned gave his best friend two thumbs up. Hopefully, you were starting to get the hint how he felt about you.
