Work Text:

After dating Bucky aka Doctor Barnes aka an ER doctor for four months, you decided now it was time to introduce him to ALL of your family. He’d already met your parents and siblings, but now this was the big leagues.

Your titas, titos, and cousins were all curious about your boyfriend. With you and Bucky not being fairly active on social media, they didn’t have anything to go off of.

They’d found his facebook and instagram easily, but it was set to private. So there was that. It did pique all of their interests when they heard Bucky was a doctor.

You texted your cousins the day before the family party you were all supposed to attend, begging them to tell their parents not to be rude to Bucky. But ya know, older Filipinos, they always say and do what they want. They had no filter whatsoever. Nevertheless, your cousins said they’d try and you could only hope that the everything would be okay.

You sat in the driver’s seat as you drove to your Tita Rowena’s house, Bucky sitting in the passenger seat, “So, you nervous?”

Your boyfriend couldn’t help but chuckle, “I think you’re more nervous than I am, sweetheart.”

“Well, it’s just…my family, mostly my titas, they can be a bit…much.”

“I’m a big boy, baby. I think I can handle it.”

You can’t help but snort and mumble, “We shall see.”

When you arrived, you parked a few houses down. Parking was very limited due to the amount of family you had. You held Bucky’s hand, your cousin’s birthday gift in the other hand swinging back and forth in a bag.

You and he walked up the cobblestone path and then rung the doorbell. You could hear the music and chatter through the door. There were a lot of people inside.

When the door swung open, your six year old cousin, Bea, squealed, “Ate Y/N!” her arms wrapping around you.

You chuckled, hugging her back, “Hey, Bee! Happy birthday!” you hand her her gift and she hands it off to her younger sister, Carmen, to put it on the gift table.

Bea then looks at Bucky standing behind you and whispered, “Is that your boyfriend?”

You nodded, “Yup, Bea, this is Bucky. Bucky, this is Bea.”

“Ah! The birthday girl! Nice to meet you, Bea!” he offers his hand to her and she, instead, hugs him, her cheek resting against the round of his stomach.

Bea then takes Bucky’s hand and pulls him inside, “Come on! You need to meet everyone else! Tita Lourdes thought Ate Y/N was lying about you!”

You groaned, disliking that 1) Tita Lourdes was here and 2) she really thought you would lie about having a boyfriend?

Swiftly, you interfere though, stopping Bea from pulling him in further, “Wait, Bee. I think it’s better if I introduce Bucky to everyone. Okay?” Bea then nodded and skipped away to join her sister and your other younger cousins.

You let out a deep breath and then gripped Bucky’s hand tightly and pull Bucky further into the house to the living room. Once there, everyone hollers out greetings, some coming up to you and kissing your cheek.

You then speak up, “Okay everyone! Living proof that I wasn’t lying about him! This is my boyfriend, Bucky!”

Bucky shyly waves and people wave back, and greet him. Titas Rowena and Lettie then come up to him, “Ay! Bucky, you’re so tall! Look at the difference between you and Y/N!” your titas cackle together and you have to hold back an eye roll.

“Yes, titas, he’s very tall.”

Tita Lettie then puts her hand on Bucky’s bicep and squeezes, “Oh! Do you work out? Wen, feel his arms!” the older Filipino woman looks up at Bucky, “You must be so strong!”

You look at them incredulously. Are…Are they flirting with Bucky??

Tita Rowena then pats his round stomach, “I see you like to eat! Have you ever had Filipino food?”

You can immediately see that Bucky’s starting to get uncomfortable, so you step in, “Yes! He has, titas. I’ve made him some as well as brought him to a few restaurants. So yes, he’s tried Filipino food.”

They both nod in approval, but then Tita Lourdes comes up, “Maybe you shouldn’t have given him so much, Y/N! It looks like he eats enough!” she cackles, patting Bucky’s arm as if he’s in on the joke, but he looks so uncomfortable.

That’s when you speak up, “Alright! That’s enough! You stop talking about Bucky’s weight right now! I’m sick and tired of you aunties always saying shit about me or any of the other cousins! It’s not like you have anything going for you guys now. Tita Rowena, I know you dye your hair to cover up your greying! Tita Lourdes, I know that you and Tito Romel are close to separating! Tita Lettie, EVERYONE knows that you have a gambling problem which is why no one wants to lend you money!

“None, absolutely, NONE, of you guys are perfect! So you don’t get to say shit about me, or Bucky, or anyone else either about whatever flaws you perceive. Bucky is a successful doctor and deserves your respect!”

You take Bucky’s hand and you march through towards the backyard. There, you see some of your cousins and uncles, hanging out and drinking, completely unaware of what just happened inside. You then grab a wine cooler, open it and chug half of it down.

Bucky smirked at you wiped a few droplets from your lips, “Feel better?”

You shrugged, “A little. You want something to drink?”

He then reaches for your bottle, downing the other half. Letting out a satisfied sigh, he tosses the bottle into the recycling bin next to the coolers, “Well, we’ve been here for less than ten minutes and things have already gone to shit.”

You snort, “It was bound to happen honestly. My aunties had it coming. They’re always saying shit and thinking they’re better than everyone else. It pisses me off. But what really pissed me off is how they treated you when they don’t even know you. They just-UUUGGGHH!” You collapse into a lawn chair, Bucky sitting beside you.

Your mom comes out with a cautious look on her face, “Anak, your aunties said you were being dramatic a few moments ago.”

You rolled your eyes, “Really? They’re calling me dramatic just because I called their asses-”

“Anak,” your mom gave you a warning look. She never liked when you cussed.

You apologized then continued, “Sorry, Nay. But you know how they are! Someone had to tell them off! And they were being so rude at Bucky! Poking and prodding him like he’s a zoo animal!”

Your mom nodded, making her way over to you, but not before kissing Bucky on the cheek and he greeted her with a smile, “Hi auntie.”

“Hi, Bucky. My daughter, eh? Siya ay talagang passionate. She’s bery passionet, eh?”

He chuckles with a nod, “She is, but that’s what I like about her.”

Your mom then nods and then bends down to kiss your head, “You apologize to your titas, okay, anak?”

You groaned and then with a growl, you muster out, “Fine.” Because you didn’t want to cause any trouble for your parents, despite the trouble being their siblings.

Bucky then sighs, leaning back in his seat, hand raking through his cropped hair, “So..you weren’t kidding about your aunties.”

“Told you,” you said with a smirk. You then stood up with a grunt, “Let’s go. I need to apologize to my aunties asap or else shit will hit the fan.”

“I thought it did.”

“It did not, but it still could if I don’t apologize.”

“But your aunties-”

You gave him a shrug, “That’s just how things go sometimes. We’re all taught to respect our elders, no matter how stupid or rude they are.” you offer your hand to Bucky and help him stand up, “Anyway, we just have to stay until Bea cuts the cake, then we can go. After I say sorry, you wanna eat? I saw you eyeing that pork adobo.”

Bucky moans in delight, “God yes. I don’t even care if your auntie’s judge me. Filipino food is so dangerous.”

You laughed as you linked your fingers with his and entered the house again, “You’re telling me, Buck.”
