Keri Soothes the Spark

Summary:

A random person on tumblr was having a bad day so I wrote their self-insert and Starscream being gooey under a starlit sky.

Notes:

Like all of my recent fics, this isn't beta-read. I don't have time between school and work.

Work Text:

Everyone had their rough days but some days were worse than others. You would find yourself among friends and an unkind notion or insinuation would drip poison into the day from a friendly glossa. Even those well meaning could throw out a careless word and ruin anything. If Starscream were to speak he was so afraid to be told he was ruining something. The current dynamic wasn’t something Starscream could afford to shatter. What was nothing to them was everything to the Decepticon just trying to pick up the pieces of his hurt. Sure, he could consult KnockOut, that was always an opinion for him, but what he needed now was the friendly face of an alien race.

“Hey, you’ve been rather quiet,” Keri’s clear voice rang out against the fog of uncertainty in his processor.

“Oh? I wasn’t aware I had to fill every moment with my glorious musings,” Starscream postured, trying to cover his momentary lapse of regality. “I am merely lost in the visions of a future free of those pesky Autobots.”

Keri slipped another one of those snacks she kept with her into her mouth and crunched.

     “What are those?”

“Star candy,” She grinned as she replied, “For being with my Starlight.”

A yellow one lingered on her tongue to show him.

Starscream moved to rest on his chest, propping himself up with his servos. His pieces swung lazily behind his perked wingspan as he continued to air grievances.

“If Lord Megatron wasn’t so busy trying to....” Starscream searched for a word, “Well...if he didn’t keep antagonizing the Prime, the Autobots would’ve been taken care of by now. Everything was perfect. We were stockpiling supplies and the Autobots were slowly running out of resources.”

He growled out his final thoughts, “That walking bucket of couldn’t strategize to save his cause. He wants them destroyed now and can’t see the benefit of a slow and complete destruction.”

“You always could, sweet spark,” Keri agreed, “You know when to be ruthless and when to siege your enemies.”

Keri always listened attentively which made a warmth spread in his spark. He leaned his helm down to see her closely.

“Before you came,” he confessed, “When Megatron had returned, I thought ‘what am I doing? All of this struggling what was it for? Then I met you.”

“C’mon Starlight,” Keri pushed playfully on one of his slender digits, “you’re being humble. You’ve been the only one to extinguish a spark of an Autobot since like...since Earth at least.”

“Yes well, being this amazing doesn’t vanquish the Autobots.”

A breeze ruffled the human’s long hair and they enjoyed the night air caressing them.

“You know, whatever happens in the future,” Keri assured, “it’ll happen to the both of us...together.”

She scooted closer to him and his vision filled with nothing but his beloved sweets park. Starscream scraped his claws, tilling the dirt with his fidgets.

Keri began to gently run her hands on his insignia, it’s red reflecting the gentle glow of his bio lights. Silence was just as soothing as speech so they sat, listening to the world as it carried on around them. Starscream felt a calm radiate from the place where she touched his chest.

Together, in this moment and each one to come, they were worth the love they felt. Mistakes and self-perceived flaws still pounded at their sense of self, they couldn’t help that. But the deep cracks in frame and heart filled with the shimmering gold of how much Starscream treasured Keri and how much she treasured him.
