Work Text:

if someone told jeon jeongguk before that one day he would find another way to watch the stars than staring at the sky at night, he would probably have said that it was impossible.

but that was before he met park jimin.

jeongguk always loved the sky at night, watching the beautiful stars shining in the dark. they were always illuminating the shadows, creating a ceiling full of art that you can stare for hours.

and jeongguk loved that. he spent all his nights at this window, peering at the obscurity filled with these radiant dots. it was truly something he devoted all his time, something he was waiting for every day after school, something he missed so much when the sky was cloudy for some nights.

at ten years old, being an admirer of the stars like he was, he told his mom “mommy, i think i want to work in the stars in the future”. she smiled at her son's words and replied that it was called a cosmonaut and that it was in fact really hard. but of course, if her son wanted to work in the stars, she would always support him.

working in the stars changed into never being far from the stars with time. at thirteen, jeongguk understood what the job of a cosmonaut was and decided it was not really something he wanted to do. however, he still spent all his nights watching the dark sky full of lights and learned the constellations' names by heart. whenever he could, he would talk about the sky and all the splendid lights that were illuminating it, showing this passion to everyone, especially with school presentations about it. teachers always found jeongguk’s devotion for the stars really cute and always complimented him for his hard work on it.

jeongguk always found the night special, a pending period of time in which he would just look at the giant sky and stare stare stare. he could lose himself in the sky.

the sky also gave him someone special, or jeongguk just thought it must be the sky that gave him this someone. he just always believed that. because, truly, jimin must have been from the sky, there were no other solutions.

park jimin was sort of an angel.

jeongguk met him when he entered high school, feeling completely lost in this new school, without any landmarks, without any friends. but somehow, jimin has been the light that made the darkness bright. jimin became his own star.

it was his third week there and jeongguk was still alone. so he just went on the rooftop, a place where he could be closer to the sky, his comfort place. he knew the darkness of the night and the lights that were always here won’t be up in the sky at this time. but jeongguk was a dreamer, and all he would have to do is to lie on the ground, close his eyes and imagine. imagine what he sees every night.

so he did what he planned. he lay down on the concrete ground, seeing the immensity of blue in front of him. but jeongguk didn’t want to see the blue color, he wanted to observe a starry night. he closed his eyes.

what he saw when he opened his eyes thought, wasn’t really what he expected. but it can only be the sky that gifted him this. one pair of eyes was looking bright at him, a pair of eyes that belonged to a young blond-haired boy.

“what are you doing here ? did you want to take a nap here ? on the rooftop ?”

his voice was angelic. and he sounded so calm, even though he was sort of mad at him. and jeongguk didn’t know what to say. it felt like he was mute, words didn’t want to come out, his brain way too absorbed by the boy in front of him.

“hey ! can you speak ?” the other boy waved his hand in front of jeongguk’s eyes, in an attempt to make him go back on earth. jeongguk gasped, regaining his senses, and blurted “i’m jeongguk”.

what a surprise when a small smile appeared on the blond-haired boy, that seemed glad to finally get an answer.

“and i’m jimin, nice to meet you”

the next few days after their first meeting have been incredible. jeongguk learned so much about jimin. first and foremost that the blond-haired was in fact his hyung but also that he was a dancer.

and an amazing dancer.

only five days after they met, jimin invited the younger to the dance studio to show him what his dance routine was. jeongguk was amazed. jimin was so so so so so talented.

for the first time since he discovered the immensity of the sky at night and that the darkness could reveal so many stars, jeongguk realized something else existed that he couldn’t tear his eyes away: park jimin.

park jimin dancing was art. no. park jimin was art. like the starry night was. and jeongguk felt so many things.

-

one week of friendship turned into one month and then into one year. jeongguk and jimin were inseparable. the word “friendship” was something jeongguk used by conformity but in fact, he wasn’t sure he could call them like that.

their relationship never looked like any other relationships, it was something special.

it was special in the way jeongguk still believed jimin was a gift from the sky. it was special in the way jeongguk couldn’t tear his eyes from jimin, not only when he was dancing. it was special in the way jeongguk knew jimin was important for him, that he had to stay close to him.

he had to stay close to him like he said he would always stay close from the stars.

-

“it’s called love, gguk.”

jeongguk was now eighteen, and graduated from high school, high school that jimin left two years ago.

jeongguk missed jimin so much, his heart was hurting so bad these days that he had to talk about it with one of his closest friend. friend that he successfully made two years ago, a success that made jimin so proud of the younger that he was smiling so hard.

minhyuk just dropped the bomb, something he knew for a long time now but waited for jeongguk to realize. but jeongguk was just a bit oblivious.

“love ? like… love love ?”

the word lingered on jeongguk lips, a word that seemed so delicate and beautiful. a word that he wanted to whisper to what he cherished the most.

the truth is that jeongguk only cherished two things in his life :
1. the stars
2. park jimin

that's when he finally realised.

“i love jimin”

-

jimin was coming back to busan in one hour and jeongguk couldn’t stay still. it was finally time for him to say everything he had on his heart. and it was a lot.

he waited two weeks since he realised he was, in fact, really in love with his jiminie hyung, and finally he would be able to say it out loud and let all the bright dots in the night sky hear it.

he couldn’t wait to scream to the stars which he always looked at, that he found his own star.

jeongguk has told jimin he would wait on the rooftop, a place they never stopped visiting, even though it must be really illegal to do so.

when the younger boy saw the blonde-haired boy's head emerging from the door, he just knew the smile on his face had been the biggest he had ever been.

“hyung !” he ran, jumped and hugged the older so hard. his star was finally home.

-

both laid down on the concrete ground of the rooftop and music coming through jeongguk’s phone, the younger boy never felt more at peace than at this moment.

only jimin mattered. not even the stars in the sky above them.

why looking at the stars he always looked at for years when the boy in front of him held so many stars in his eyes ?

“jimin…”

but jeongguk never had time to finish his sentence when soft lips pressed against his.

they kissed, for long minutes, losing themselves to the other, transmitting all their feelings in the gentle touches and the caresses full of tenderness. jeongguk absolutely loved kissing jimin and at this moment he wished they could never stop.

jimin was on top of him when he broke the kiss to look at the younger.

“i love you, jeongguk”

“i love you, jimin”

the stars were shining brighter that night, that's for sure, but the only star that jeongguk saw was the boy in front of him: his own star, his jimin.
