Work Text:

It's been a week since Steve returned the stones. Nothing, not a single word from him until now. He left you alone in the present for Peggy. Suddenly there is a knock on your door, revealing Steve on the other side. "What do you want grandpa," you turn around, no longer facing him. It was strange to see him as something other than the tall, handsome man he was meer days ago.

"That's not fair (y/n),"  Steve responded as if he wasn't expecting this to happen. He follows you into the house then to the living room.

"You want to know what's not fair, Steve? Leaving me for a girl you haven't talked to in over a decade who, might I add, is dead. That's not fair."

“She’s the love of my life (y/n)!” Steve stated from across the living room, not wanting to escalate the conversation towards an argument. Taken aback by what he had just said, you respond carefully, trying to convey your emotions.

“You told me that I was, but I guess it was all lies. You said that you would love me until the end of the line. You looked me in the eye and told me you would never go away. And what about Bucky. The man who you fought for since the 40s. You can’t just leave him here either. There is nothing you can say to fix this.” Tears were threatening to spill, and your face had turned red from the yelling. He took a second to compose himself after what you had said.

“I’m sorry (y/n). I am, but I didn’t belong here.” Of course, Steve was going to use going into the ice as an excuse.

“Bullshit Rogers. Complete and utter bullshit. You have been in this century long enough to fit into everything. You abandoned everyone for someone who got over you're ‘death’ when you went in the ice and met a wonderful man who she was able to be happy with. Right after Tony’s funeral, too, real smooth. First, I lost my best friend, and then I lost the love of my life.” Your vision had become blurry from the tears.

“I had to.” It was obvious that he didn’t believe what he had just said. You caught on immediately before firing a response.

“No, you didn’t. You know why? Because we were happy! But apparently, I was wrong. Anyways, I’m glad you’re perfectly fine.” You waited for Steve to leave before sliding your back against the newly shut door, sobbing.

Notes:

I know it's short but there was nothing else for me to add.
