Climbing the Distant Ridge

Summary:

All Might has retired, the world is in chaos, things don’t seem to be looking bright as criminal activity is on the rise.

Izuku’s torn between being the symbol that people need and being the hero who he wants to be.

Enji rises to the Top Pro-Hero, but it doesn’t feel like he deserves it.

Class 1-A is just barely getting their heads around the fact their classmate was a Pro-Hero who died years ago, let’s not even start on all the villains that attacked their class. Or the fact that Midoriya adopted them.

Notes:

Welcome to the third - and possibly final, depending on if I continue on with the newer season of the anime, 'Cause I can't get the manga 😔 - fic in the Blinded by the Light Series!

Sorry about the cliffhanger at the end of the last book, but I couldn't help myself.😂😈

Hope this fic lives up to your expectations!!!

(Updates will be slow, as I aim to make chapters a bit longer than what they were in the second fic in the series, and I'm putting more effort into my Chaos Written from the Abyss series with different BNHA fics.)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Sometimes It's About Having the Choice

Summary:

Games, and a talk.

Notes:

Me: *looks at camera*
Me: "So... there are some people who need positive influences in their lives."
Me: *silence* *looks at planning sheet*
Me: "Okay, so maybe there's more than "some"."

Looking at my planning sheet, I dub this fic "the one where Isamu adopts as many people as possible while taking down idiots who run big operations".

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Isamu let himself get lost in the fun of playing an old video game.

The cat purred on his lap, and he reached down to rub his hand over its head and under its chin. Isamu chuckled as the cat shoved its head into his hand, forcing him to stop playing for a bit to give the gorgeous cat the attention it deserved.

He'd finished his coffee a while ago and was musing the idea of buying another when someone in a hoodie entered the cat cafe caught his attention.

Isamu glanced at the time and smiled.

He watched as the person looked around, and he was thankful for the cap that hid his hair, and the glasses that made it harder to recognize his face as he waved towards the other person with his free hand.

The hooded person made his way over, and Isamu was never more thankful for his younger self's idea to use online games as a way to develop his skill in finding patterns, and figuring how people might act when in certain situations. Games had been a lot simpler than trying to hone his skills in real life as a Quirkless kid.

"DustiH4nd5?" Isamu asked, double-checking. Even if someone was one hundred percent certain about his information, they should always double-check.

The other nodded, bringing his laptop out, "A11MighyF4n?" He asked.

"That's me," Isamu grinned, gesturing at his screen where his character stood waiting for him to play.

The other nodded, starting up his version of the game. He squinted at Isamu from behind his laptop, red eyes watching him carefully, "Have we met in rl before?"

Isamu shrugged his shoulders, careful not to dislodge his cap or glasses and give anything away, "Perhaps.”

They got settled into playing quickly enough. Stopping occasionally for food and drink, but otherwise, their small conversation about the game was the only thing they talked about.

The sun set in the distance, and time neared closing, a worker came over to collect their dishes, warning them that the store was closing soon. Isamu gave them his thanks, and they nodded before heading back to the kitchen.

He and DustiH4nd5 quickly finished up their last quest, saved their status, and packed up. Isamu grabbed the piece of paper that had been sitting in his hoodie pocket for the last five hours. He carefully unfolded it, and slid the paper across to the other gamer.

The other looked at the paper, frown, then looked up at Isamu, “What’s this?”

“I haven’t been completely honest,” Isamu sighed, taking the glasses off his face, tucking them in his pocket, “We’ve definitely met in rl before, several times in fact. But I only just got back recently, but if you’re willing to sign those papers, then I can tell you, Tenko.”

Shigaraki hissed, flinching backwards away from Isamu, “How-?” he froze when Isamu removed his hat, showcasing the green curly hair he was infamous for, “Midoriya?”

“Sign the papers, and I’ll tell you everything,” Isamu repeated, sighing. He removed his hand from the surface of the table, “You don’t have to, Tenko, I know that it’s been quite a while since I left you with Shimizu and Shibata and that there’s probably been a shit ton happened to you since then.”

He paused, letting Shigaraki- letting Tenko think it over. Isamu grabbed his laptop, “Just think about it, Tenko,” he wanted to wrap the younger in a hug, but knew better than to do so, “I’m not going to force you to do anything, nor will I give away your position to the heroes on your case.”

Shigaraki made a jerky nod, “Thanks,” he rasped, only hints of nerves in his voice.

Isamu nodded. He tapped the table, “You have my user, let me know when you decide,” he waited until the younger male nodded before giving him a smile, then leaving, making sure to tip the staff on his way out.

Isamu could only hope that things would work out in the end.

Notes:

I've always imagined Tenko as someone who didn't get to make many "proper" decisions by himself, without Kurogiri's programing, All for One's influence, or outside factors that didn't allow him to have the choices he wanted. So I really wanted to play on this whole "omg, Ikigai is back!" and "do I want to meet with him(and how?)" thing, but instead of giving him that, Isamu manipulated something his younger self did in order to speak with Tenko, which is just as bad as everything else, but how else was Midoriya-Todoroki Isamu going to get a known Villain out of hiding to talk to?

Yeah, not many other ways, but, Bad Isamu, manipulating people is bad- Nedzu go back to your corner.
