Sirius stirred while tightening his arm around Remus' waist. He opened his eyes and smiled up at Remus while taking in this moment. He didn’t get these anymore, not with Remus being so withdrawn lately. He still was unsure what was going on with him. They used to be so close and cuddled constantly. Maybe more than friends should, but that was just how they had always been.
Remus had begun acting cagey recently. He was always gone every morning when he awoke and in his bedroom when he returned. They hardly saw one another these days.
Remus began to twitch signaling he was waking up. Sirius watched his eyes flutter open. His eyes almost glowed in the sunlight that streamed over the bed from the window. It was bewitching and made him wonder. How could he not be in love with his best friend when he looked so captivating?
Not wanting to be caught staring Sirius decided it would be best that he untangled himself from Remus.
"My head is killing me. How much did we drink last night?" Sirius groaned while sitting up.
"I don't know. Do you remember anything at all from last night? It seems like everything after that second bar is a complete blank." Remus stood to walk over to their bags and get clothes. "I'm going to go shower."
Sirius nodded at him and walked over toward the mirror. "Oh fuck. Who mauled me last night?" He laughed at his reflection. There were bruises down the sides of his neck trailing over his chest and stomach. Reaching up to run his hand through the mess that was his hair he saw a glint in the mirror. Holding his hand out he spotted a silver band around his finger making his eyes widen. "What the fuck?!"
"Sirius, are you okay?" Remus came running out of the bathroom in just a towel showing his neck to be just as bruised as the other’s.
"Oh no." Sirius began to sway so he made his way over to the bed to sit down. "Look at your hand, Remus." Sirius knew what was about to happen.
Remus looked down and saw a ring on his finger matching Sirius'. "Are you fucking with me, Sirius?" Remus hadn't looked at him once since he noticed the ring. His brain was moving too fast trying to figure out how this had managed to happen. He seemed to be in a state of shock.
“Remus, I think-”
A knock on their door interrupted them as a panicking James Potter busted into the room. “I tried to stop you but you didn’t want to hear it. Both of you snuck off the one second I turned my back. Lily and I didn’t know where you had gone until I got a drunk call from Sirius screaming something about marrying the love of his life into the phone.” Sirius looked down at the floor because it did sound like something he would do. “Even Remus was drunk. I had never seen anything like it. I am going to get Lily up and you two will meet us at breakfast downstairs where we will figure out what to do next.” James was gone as fast as he had come in. Sirius had no idea what he was going to tell them. This was never supposed to happen.
It was so quiet you could hear both of them breathing. Neither wanted to speak.
“Sirius?” Remus quietly spoke and Sirius slowly looked up at Remus. “I'm sorry. This is obviously my fault. We will get it undone and it will be like it never happened.”
Sirius got up and began to move around the room at a breakneck pace to get dressed. With his back turned to Remus he spoke in a panicked tone. “No. I obviously played a part in this too. It wasn’t just you. Don’t blame yourself.” Remus walked over to him. “We need to talk about this though, Sirius. This is not something we can just ignore.”
“Of course. I just need some food. Yeah, let’s go to breakfast.” He still wouldn’t look at Remus.
“Sirius. Tell me what is going on.” Remus stared at Sirius with a look of desperation and confusion. He could see Sirius trembling.
Sirius turned around with a sigh. “Remus. I have been in love with you for years, okay? Is that what you want to hear? I have been in love with my best friend for years but I was terrified of telling him because it would ruin everything. Then I fucked up. I got drunk and told him everything I guess and he married me." He forced a laugh out at that. "I remember bits of last night. I remember getting down on one knee and pouring my heart out to you and you said yes. I took advantage of us both being pissed out of our minds thinking I could finally have the one thing I really wanted. I was impulsive and stupid. I’m sorry. I'm so sorry, Remus. I fucked up everything.” Sirius spoke with a pained voice and then the tears that had been pooling in his eyes started to fall.
Remus walked up to him and caressed his cheeks softly while wiping the tears away. “It’s okay. I promise it’s okay because...because I love you too! We are both idiots and it took us getting drunkenly married for us to see it. Of course this is how it would happen." Remus took Sirius' hands in his trying to calm him. "This is us though.” Remus laughed softly with his forehead pressed against his and then kissed him slowly hoping to convey all of his feelings into that one kiss. Sirius was frozen for all of two seconds after Remus put his lips to his, but then he grabbed Remus by the back of his neck and pulled his waist close until there was no space left between them. After a few seconds, Remus pulled away with Sirius left to trail after his lips.
“Wait a minute. We got married right? Why aren’t we naked then? Wouldn’t we have you know?” Remus nervously questioned Sirius.
"Well, the last thing I remember is being on top of you and then I think we may have passed out.” Sirius awkwardly laughed while scratching the back of his neck.
“That sounds pretty accurate considering how much we possibly had to drink.”
“So what are we going to do?” Sirius said holding up his hand so they both could see his ring. “We could keep them? I mean we already live together. People confuse us for a married couple anyway. Now we are. Although, I would like a ceremony I can remember.” Remus proposed with a laugh.
Sirius looked up at Remus in shock. “Or not. Sorry. I just thought..” Remus grew quiet.
Sirius’ mouth grew into a wide smile. "Lupin or Black-Lupin?.” Remus laughed and pulled him in for another passionate kiss that rivaled the last.
