Live at the Moment

Summary:

After doing their duties, Deimos drags Sanford so they could hang out for a while.

Work Text:

“Hey, aren’t we supposed to get out of the building?” Sanford asked Deimos.

The two men were done with their mission killing agents, finding information, and then moving on. Though Deimos wasn’t ready to go yet. After convincing the taller man, Sanford agreed to follow him. They were walking upstairs somewhere.

“Nope!” Deimos exclaimed.

Sanford sighs. “More l33t agents are going to come if we don’t get out now.” He complained to the shorter man. His hand was then held and gripped tightly, but not too tight. Sanford doesn’t know how to express it but it was nice.

“I’ll get us back to safety, don’t worry.” Deimos reassured him with his voice getting soft. And Sanford was set, trusting the man who dragged him to wherever they’re going. He wondered what would happen if he rearranged their hands to… no, it wasn’t worth it.

Once they stopped walking, Deimos used his other hand to open the door, not letting go of Sanford’s. When the door opened there was a fresh breeze of air that bristled through their faces. It appears that they’re on top of the roof. It was strangely peaceful for a place whose purpose was to be for madness.

“We’re up here, for what again?” Sanford questioned. He did admit, he liked the eerie yet calming peacefulness the atmosphere likes to set.

“No reason but to hang out.” Deimos answered. He made Sanford follow him to stand near to almost the end of the building.

“Pfft, why can’t we just hang out back in the Anti-Auditor Agency?”

“Think of it as going outside of your house. It’s nice to go outside but it’s the repetition that makes it boring. Take this as a new experience.” He explained. Sanford wasn’t going to argue with the man any further so he just silently nodded.

Deimos lets go of Sanford’s hand, which was a bit disappointing, to take a seat and grab his backpack. He took out his phone and went to a music app. After picking his playlist he asked Sanford which song he’d like to play. He scrolled through the songs and chose one that was grunge and rock.

A few minutes later Sanford went to sit down beside his friend. Without thinking, he leaned down and rested his head on Deimos’ shoulder. It threw Deimos off guard but it was welcomed either way.

“It does feel nice being outside.” Sanford spoke out. Deimos nodded his head, then reached his hand in his backpack again. It was a bottle of beer.

He opened the bottle and watched the cap fly and fall to the ground. For 10 seconds it had gained both boredom and entertainment for both men to watch the cap fall. Sanford watched Deimos drinking from the bottle.

Deimos caught his partner staring at him, assuming that his partner was thirsty. He handed the bottle in front of Sanford. “Want some?”

“Did you smoke earlier?” He asked. Deimos told him he didn’t, which he had to reassure for the second time that he didn’t smoke. Sanford was a bit hesitant but took it. Considering it’s been a while since he drank it, the drink was refreshing.

The music kept playing with whatever genre it chooses to play. The music played as the wind continued to bristle through their clothing. If Sanford were lucky enough he could hear a car honking, which was just a grunt getting angry at another person.

He remembered that by now they should be driving back to the A.A.A (Anti-Auditor Agency). If they start trying to get to the car sooner they’re definitely going to be late from their curfew. And even worse, a lecture by the boss. Though he could care less.

The reminder of the A.A.A gave Sanford an idea to start a conversation. “How’s your relationship with the A.A.A lately?” He asked, referencing Deimos’ past occupation as an A.A.H.W member.

“I can tell that the agents want to kill me. You see it also.” Sanford knows what Deimos is talking about. He sees the man getting picked by other A.A.A members as if he was hiding information. He watches as he gets being told that he was a liar and a spy for the A.A.H.W.

But Sanford knew the man. He knows for one that Deimos sucks at acting when he tried mocking Hank as a caricature. Or when he mocked Tricky, his impression for a clown were just lyrics from Rock and Roll McDonalds. They weren’t even the right lyrics.

“Though I don’t focus on that but rather how I can redeem myself. Like you know my recent interest in being a technician, right?” Deimos said. Sanford nodded his head and went back taking another drink from the bottle. “And you?”

Sanford let out an exasperated-like sigh after drinking. “Doing good. I’m trying to learn something new that may help us for future missions.” He mentions as he gives back the bottle back to Deimos.

“Tell me.” Deimos said, and then started drinking from the bottle.

“You told me back then how I do good in melee, so I took your comment and tried learning how to use different types of weapons.” He explained to him.

“Ah. Actually, I’ve noticed how you used more melee weapons on this mission.” Deimos said. Sanford smiled at the man as he’s having sudden euphoria.

“Yep. How was it?”

“Mediocre.” Sanford played out to be insulted and lightly hit Deimos’s side with his hand. “I lied, it was definitely cool. I was appalled at your fighting and new moves that I almost ignored the messages the A.A.A had told me.” Deimos said and then quietly laughed.

It gave Sanford so much euphoria that his feet started tapping quickly. He just, fuck, he loves his friend so much. There wasn’t much to be happy about when most of the time it’s the fight and kill, so this is refreshing to him.

And to his impulse he grabbed Deimos’ wrist. Deimos took it as a signal to readjust their hands to holding it. Later on the fingers went to intertwine. Both were content but didn’t choose to speak about it.

Sanford wouldn’t mind if the agency got mad at the two for being so late. Deimos is right, it was a nice new experience. It is just him and Deimos living at the moment before things could go any more wrong.
