Rahleigh's leather hands swiped across Fionn's fluffy palms, as the two exchanged a handshake. Ray wore a see through fabric, highlighting his scarred thighs and weathered arms. The very few covered parts were his waist and chest. The two exchanged a quick glance before Ray went back to charming the pub, making his way around the room, laying his scratchy fingers on the pants of whatever customer was perusing the dive. Fionn kept walking, ascertaining the location of their target. Fionn wore a cloak that covered his more expensive clothing, hiding his heritage behind a blue cloth. Ray made his way back up the stage and looked directly at their target-the Versemonger of The Oracle. Rahleigh made sustained eye contact, locking the Versemonger's green eyes with his burning yellow ones and engulfing the Versemonger in his heat, in the sun pool laying in the whites of his eyes. Fionn watched from afar, pinching deeply into his palms and biting into his lip. His heart dropped for a moment, as he looked at Rahleigh's eyes. He traced them back to the Versemonger, and looked back up. Rahleigh never failed a mission, Fionn knew that. He would never take his eyes off his target. But just this once, he was hoping for Rahleigh's failure.
Rahleigh catered across the stage, throwing his arms out and letting the flowing fabric that gripped his garment glitter like wings. The dazzle that followed after Rahleigh had now caught all eyes, and the light of the pub motioned towards the dancer. With all lights on him, Ray pivoted on the balls off his feet, holding his hands to the heavens. The light caused him to transform in a ball of sparkling fabric, twisting around and dazzling the minds of anyone who looked. With one swift movement he managed to ensnare them all in his trap. Fionn put his hood up and lurked closer towards the Versemonger. Fionn took his stave, and tapped it once. A slow creeping crystal of ice traveled down the white stave, and Fionn placed the hook of the weapon around the Versemonger's throat and leaned in to whisper in his ear.
"Don't scream, I'd hate to get blood all over my new clothes~"
Fionn moved the Versemonger silently out of the pub and into the alley between the pub and the blacksmith. They stood there in silence, covered in the shadows before the appearance of Rahleigh. He was now wearing his usual clothes-a black lycra top and some black pants. Ray brushed off beads of sweat that perched themselves on his eyebrows and turned to the Versemonger.
"Versemonger. Open your ears and shut your mouth because we're gonna have a little talk." Ray placed his hands on the hilt of his sword, brandishing a weapon to the Versemonger. The Versemonger nodded and Fionn took his stave off of him. Fionn moved closer to Ray, and placed his arm on his shoulder. Ray nudged Fionn's hand off and grunted.
"Oh don't be a spoilsport Ray, I nabbed the Versemonger with no interruptions. Hey! Wait! Do you think I could be a mercenary?" Fionn clasped his hands together and wiggled the tips of his pointed ears a little.
"Absolutely not." Ray gave Fionn a short look before walking towards the Versemonger. "You posted a decree for the head of our friend, Sephome the other day. Remember that?" The Versemonger shook his head.
"I-I don't recall anyone by the name of Sephone. The Decrees all come from the Royal Family, I have no power over them." The Versemonger managed to spit out through the tears.
Fionn twirled his stave around and swung at the Versemonger in the stomach. "I'm getting a little sick of everyone telling us it's not in their power. Just don't print it. It's not that hard."
The Versemonger shook his head with great force. "I fear the royal family more than I fear two...hooligans." Fionn raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sure you can be persuaded." Fionn grinned. Rahleigh smacked Fionn gently, and shook his head.
"We are not going to injure him...at least not severely." Fionn pouted and held his stave.
"Not even one spell?"
"Not a single."
"Fine."
Fionn held out his hand towards the Versemonger, and a black aura erupted from his hands. The black aura entered into the Versemonger and Fionn gave a smile.
"What did you just do?!" Ray clenched his fists and looked towards Fionn.
"Huh? Oh I just hexed him. You did say no spells, so I didn't do a spell!" Fionn giggled a little. Ray shook his head and lurched towards the Versemonger, grabbing him by the arms.
"Are you an idiot?! What hex did you put on him?!" Ray was holding the Versemonger up by the shoulder and wiping any sweat off of his forehead. Fionn's eye twitched and leaned on to the wall.
"Oh, just a heart hex. His heart is slower, so if he runs too much, his poor wittle heart will give out. Ray, why do you care this weirdo isn't our friend."
"He doesn't have to be. He's someone's friend, somewhere. And not to mention, his family. You know how I feel about magic!" Ray hissed. "Undo it!"
Fionn bit into the inside of his cheek. "No, not until he retracts Sephone from the oracle."
"You wouldn't dare." Rahleigh narrowed his eyes.
Fionn gave Rahleigh a raised eyebrow. "You wouldn't wanna guess. The hex lasts for life." Rahleigh looked to the Versemonger for an answer.
"Fine...I'll recall all issues and recant your friend's decree. Please just...let me go…" He pleaded. Fionn placed a finger on his chin.
"Hm. Sure, that'll do." Fionn swished his finger to the left, and a dark aura leaped out of the Versemonger. Fionn motioned to the end of the alleyway, and Ray let him go. The Versemonger went running, out of the darkness and into the illuminated streets. Ray walked towards Fionn and grabbed onto his collar, pushing him into the wall.
"What was that?!" He shouted, and a rising red flush appeared into his golden brown skin. Fionn looked into Ray's eyes and his glacial blue came into competition with Ray's burning yellow.
"I was doing the job. Simple as. You did the distraction I did the interrogating."
"You think I wanted to do that?! That was humiliating. Being ogled like that…"
Fionn chuckled and shook his head. "You think I wanted to do that? That Versemonger wasn't going to listen to words, he needed threats."
"You didn't have to do it like that. You didn't have to use magic. It's Disgusting. It's above you, it's above us."
"And you had to dance around the stage, selling yourself to every sleazy piece of meat in that pub? You didn't have to use your eyes like that. In your own words, it's disgusting. If you think I'm really so repulsive just say that, don't use magic as a guise."
Ray eased his grip on Fionn, dropping him down to the floor, but still keeping a light grip on his collar. "You're not repulsive. And my eyes are just eyes. Eye contact doesn't mean anything."
"It means everything to me." Fionn kept his eyes trained on Ray's and the two were caught in each other's gaze for a moment, before Ray tore away.
"I wasn't selling myself to them...and even if I was, how is that a problem? I'm doing what's been asked of me." Ray muttered, looking down at his feet, his hands now by his side.
Fionn clung to the edges of his cloak. "If you're gonna sell yourself, I wanna be the one that buys you."
Ray looked up at Fionn and kept his eye contact once more, not tearing away for a minute. "Fionn, you don't need to buy me. I'm not something for you to buy. I'm...a person. I've been used as a weapon too many times to know not to allow anyone to own you," Fionn dropped his head for a moment but Rahleigh grabbed his chin and pushed it up to meet his eyes. "I don't want you to own me. I just...I just want you to love me."
Fionn smiled, and placed his hand on Rahleigh's. "That's easy cause I already do."
