Chapter Text
————————————
it was december. late december, that is. probably like the 27th?? you didn't keep much track anyway: ever since quarantine, time had completely slipped for you.
currently, you were on just another discord call in a server you were in. you were really only half-heartedly listening: the others were rambling about that game again.
genshin impact.
it seemed ok: it just didn't pique your interest that much. the character designs and stuff seemed cool, but....it just seemed like any other rpg game to you. nothing special.
they were talking about some sort of new event, and you only picked up a few words. something about a really cold place and a cursed sword?
"oh c'mon y/n, you have to try it!" one of them practically whined over the mic, and you merely snorted and rolled your eyes.
"is it really that good?"
"YES."
practically everyone in the call responded in union, which caused you to flinch slightly: a bit loud much?
"fine, fine, i'll give it a try."
you found yourself snickering quietly under your breath as the chorus of cheers and hoots erupted from the speakers on your desktop: it was almost like a bunch of elementary school kids cheering after being told they could have snacks in class, or extra recess.
it was rather amusing to listen to what they chattered about as you opened a new tab to find the download page for the game.
"they'll probably be a sucrose main!!"
"they'll probably understand artifacts faster then the rest of us."
"you think they'll get the pity system?"
you didn't understand a word of what they all said, but you shrugged it off, soon opening the site and looking at the colorful display screen. thankfully your computer could handle the game, so it was a matter of clicking and waiting. and boy was it a lot of waiting. in the meantime, though, your friends were practically spamming the chat with different characters and asking for your opinion on them all.
they all seemed interesting: though most of your responses were relatively short due to the amount of images piling up.
"scaramouche: he looks tiny and angry."
"kaeya: let me guess, everyone thirsts for him."
"zhongli: he gives off an energy i cannot describe."
"venti: that's not a girl is it"
"bennett: he looks very kind i want to hug him"
"chongyun: do his pupils dilate like a cat or does he permanently have slit pupils like that i need to know"
this went on for a bit until the game finally downloaded: and you opened it, putting your screen on share with the call so they could see what you were doing.
you did promptly shut that off soon after so you could make your account, but that was relatively easy.
after that, you turned your screen back onto the call, and after a bit, the opening scene played. from it alone, it seemed pretty cool. you eventually ended up on the screen that prompted you to choose your character, and you sort of slid your mouse back and forth like you weren’t sure.
your friends unfortunately weren’t the most helpful, shouting back and forth; “pick the girl!” “pick the guy!” “pick aether!” “pick lumine!”
you ended up picking the guy in the end, mainly commenting that you thought his outfit was cool as hell. also, he was genuinely rocking that braid as well.
running through the first bit of the story was a breeze. pun intended. the quests seemed pretty straightforward, and the open world system looked pretty awesome: you were pleasantly surprised it didn’t demolish your computer entirely from overheating. you eventually ended up gathering enough of those intertwined fate things, and you opened the banner menu.
everyone on call seemed pretty interested in who you’d end up getting.
and just to your luck, there was a gold comet in that ten roll. you isn’t really know what that meant, though, so you simply clicked through what or who you had gotten. a few weapons, bennett, and another character you didn’t recognize. albedo.
everyone was flipping out on call, to the dissatisfaction of your ears.
”YOU GOT A FIVE STAR FIRST TRY??”
”THATS CRAZY!!”
”...i’m guessing this guy is really good then?”
there was another chorus of “yes” from the call, not to your surprise.
you honestly thought he looked pretty cool. you soon swapped lisa and amber out for your new characters, taking a look at your decent team. it was a start for the game, but a nice start.
you eventually told the others you were going to leave the call, and after saying goodbye, you closed discord. you had online classes still to do: maybe you could play a bit of that game later? you sighed, getting up to stretch and looking out the window.
snow. lots and lots of snow.
