(you wanna) kiss the boy

Summary:

Everyone’s always talking about how he stares with Soobin with such focused, sparkling eyes, taking in every detail he could drink up about the other boy. But that could easily be chalked up to the fact that Beomgyu is an artist, and the thing he draws most is people— of course he’s staring.

Although, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to kiss his hyung.

(Soobin asks Beomgyu to teach him how to draw.)

Notes:

aha guess who's back with more soogyu because i love Them. people always say i should teach them how to draw and i thought: 'how can i apply this to find another excuse to write soogyu kisses?' so ,,, here this is !! i wrote this in one shot, and it was fun to write, so please forgive any mistakes and i hope u enjoy ~

(also my other wip ,,, ahahaha *looks away*)

title is inspired by 'kiss the girl' from the little mermaid!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“You should kiss him.”

Beomgyu is snapped out of his deep thinking at the mention of the k-word, and turns to look at Hueningkai with wide eyes.

“What?”

“I said,” the younger huffs indignantly, “You should kiss him. Soobin hyung.”

“I— why would I want to do that?” Beomgyu looks away, and he can feel the telltale blush working it’s way across his face. He hears Kai scoff in disbelief, and decidedly turns to his small sketchbook to put his ideas to paper. He had recently just overcome a recent artist’s block, and now his thought process flows with a rich stream of fresh ideas, all of which have to do with a certain tall, blue-haired boy.

Damn

“Why? You’re asking me why? Shall we take a look at your most recent sketches, hyung? ‘Cause we can do that right now—”

“No, we really don’t—”

Kai snatches the sketchbook from the older’s grasp, completely disregarding his protests (like the brat that he is, dammit) causally flipping through the pages. He hums and nods, making exaggerated expressions with his eyebrows, and Beomgyu can feel the blush on his face catch on fire.

“Oh wow, Soobin hyung with elf ears here. And then Soobin hyung with angel wings? Is it cause he’s your little angel? And wow, you must look at his lips a lot, given that there’s a page here just filled with his lips and this little writing that says ‘wow, they look so soft, I wonder what would happen if I kissed them—’”

“Fuck off,” Beomgyu snatches the sketchbook, holding the item close to his chest. Any malice that he tries to muster in his tone is completely drowned by his embarrassment of being exposed, and Kai merely smirks back at him, expression smug and all-knowing.

“Seriously though, hyung,” Kai’s smirk softens at the edges as he pokes the artist but the butt of his pen. “I think you should at least tell him your feelings. It’ll be like a weight lifting off your shoulders. And you won’t be stuck in the black hole of what if’s for the rest of your life.”

Beomgyu considers Kai’s words carefully, looking down at the table. He had been harboring this crush on his hyung for the better part of 6 months now, and he’s surprised that Soobin himself hasn’t even caught on to his affections— everyone’s always talking about how he stares with Soobin with such focused, sparkling eyes, taking in every detail he could drink up about the other boy. But that could easily be chalked up to the fact that Beomgyu is an artist, and the thing he draws most is people— of course, he’s staring. What better way to study facial structure and human anatomy and proportions by looking at actual human beings?

And it doesn’t hurt if they’re attractive, with an incredibly beautiful smile paired with incredibly precious dimples and crescent moon eyes, with lanky limbs, arms long enough to wrap around him like a fuzzy blanket, with a voice as soft as a pillow and sweet as honey, with a presence that grants him an everlasting comfort and contentedness, different from anyone else he’s ever met.

(Alright. So maybe proportions aren’t the only reason he’s staring.)

Kai’s tone shifts back to playful. “Or, better yet, you can do both! It doesn’t matter what order, probably. Just make sure you get consent! Consent is very important.”

“I know how consent works, Kai yah.”

“Well then, you’re already one step of the way there!”

Beomgyu closes his eyes and lets out a sigh.

He’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to kiss his hyung.

The opportunity comes when, one night, Soobin shows up at his and Yeonjun’s shared apartment, appearing impromptu.

Yeonjun had said something about how Soobin had mentioned that he was hungry, and they did just make a trip to the convenience store two days ago.

(“Hyung, it’s okay, really. I have ramyeon in my own apartment.”

“Nonsense! Ramyeon always tastes better in a house that’s not your own!”

“Is that why you’ve been bothering Taehyun all the time?”

“Among other reasons,” Yeonjun smirks to himself, and Soobin makes a face, not asking the older to expand on the statement.)

Then, sure enough, not even 5 minutes after Soobin had finished eating, Yeonjun gasps, saying something about he forgot that he was supposed to meet up with Taehyun for a project (Of all excuses, it’s the dumbest one to come up with— Yeonjun and Taehyun aren’t even in the same major, for fuck’s sake), plucks his car key’s from the kitchen counter and brightly waves as he departs, but not without (un)subtly winking at Beomgyu.

(“Gyu, are you okay?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, your left eye is twitching. You look like your plotting murder.”

“Yeonjun tends to have that effect on people, Soobin hyung.”

“Yah! I’m telling him you called him informally!”

“No need. I’m sure his spidey senses kick in whenever I make fun of him behind his back.”)

(Sure enough, in 3 minutes tops, Beomgyu’s phone pings with a message from Yeonjun: yah you better not be shit-talking me to soobinnie!!!!!! Beomgyu merely snorts, sending a shrugging emoji, and locks the phone.)

Later, Soobin is sitting on the couch, bent over some papers over their small coffee table, looking with furrowed eyebrows and parted lips. Upon closer inspection, Beomgyu realizes he had left some sketches scattered about, and now Soobin was staring at them. When Soobin notices the younger boy’s presence, he looks up with bright eyes.

“Gyu yah, you drew these? You’re so talented,” Soobin picks up a page, and it's a drawing from when Beomgyu had sat in Kai and Taehyun’s shared dorm, small details and personality leaked into the graphite smeared across the page.

Beomgyu flaps a hand, “Ah, thank you, it’s really nothing...”

“You should teach me how to draw,” Soobin says, shifting onto the ground, grabbing Beomgyu’s hand and swinging it insistently and tugging at him to sit down beside him, to which Beomgyu easily agrees. With a smile, Beomgyu tears two pages from the sketchbook nearby (because with the ridiculous number of sketchbooks that Beomgyu has, there’s always one magically within his vicinity), setting one to his left, in front of Soobin, and one for himself.

“Uh, well, what do you want to learn how to draw?” Beomgyu starts off awkwardly, grabbing the nearest pen and twirling it with his fingers clumsily.

“What do you like to draw the most?” Soobin looks at him earnestly, and with so much interest, and Beomgyu thinks he might melt under his strong gaze, and say something stupid like you

“What?”

Youmans. Humans! Human— I like drawing people,” he says, whipping out the English from his ass. Soobin nods, understanding, and if he noticed Beomgyu’s odd behavior, he didn’t comment on it. Thank god

Beomgyu hums in thought for a moment, before a simple enough idea pops into his head.

“Okay, I’ll draw something first, and you can watch, and I’ll explain as I draw. Okay?” Beomgyu confirms, and Soobin nods again, eagerly. Beomgyu leans forward, pen in hand hovering over the paper when he feels a hand rest at his knee, and warmth next to his face. He turns imperceptibly, and surely enough Soobin is a lot closer than he was a few moments ago, and Beomgyu could see the freckles that dusted his cheeks and nose bridge, and his eyelashes as Soobin blinked, short and pretty, and then his bunny-shaped lips, a soft pink color that looked perfect on him.

“Gyu?” Soobin’s looking at him now, and fuck, Beomgyu’s been caught.

“Nothing! Nothing! You— you just got close is all, it surprised me.”

Soobin paused carefully. “Oh. Do you want me to move awa—”

No! No! You’re fine where you are, unless you want to move away, but you don’t have to—” Beomgyu cuts himself off with the thinning of his lips, deciding that talking more will only make it worse. Lucky for him, Soobin graces him with another one of his sweet smiles, and goes back to looking at the page expectantly, still within the same proximity. Beomgyu does the same, twirling the pen in his hands clumsily once more before his pen begins to move on the paper.

“So, I personally like to draw with drawing eyes first, but for beginners, it might be easier to start with a little guide. So first you draw a circle, and then—”

Beomgyu goes into his explanation, explaining the process the same way he remembers hearing it on the tutorials that he’d watch on the internet when he was much younger, and entirely new to art and drawing in general.

The words are flowing out of Beomgyu’s mouth, in what he hopes is in a comprehensible fashion, but admittedly even his own voice sounds so far away, his sense of hearing muted whereas his sense of touch is heightened. He acutely feels the warmth of Soobin’s face next to his, and occasionally the feather-light graze of Soobin’s breath on his neck.At some point during his explanation, he guesses Soobin gets a bit tired of holding himself up, because the older boy slowly lowers his chin to rest on Beomgyu’s shoulder, tilting his head so that it's up against his neck. Soobin’s hair feels soft, tickling his neck in a way that makes Beomgyu want to squirm— but by sheer force of will, he stays completely still, lest Soobin might take his shifting as a sign of discomfort and move away.

And the hand on his knee— god, it’s embarrassing, the way Beomgyu definitely stutters over his words and how, at some point, straight up stops talking entirely as his brain short circuits, as Soobin’s fingers work a soothing rhythm, first starting with the simple rubbing of his thumb before his hand moves to his lower thigh, subtly kneading the muscle there. Though his hands remain in fairly innocent areas, Beomgyu is still driven to insanity, heart ricocheting in his ribcage, and he’s sure that Soobin could feel the warmth of his fiery face radiating on the top of his head, but the boy, ever so kind, merely nods as Beomgyu works through the roadblock in his brain.

Somehow, Beomgyu finishes his explanation with relative success, a smiling Sailor Moon staring back at the both of them, a heart on the side of her face at Soobin’s request.

“Did you get all that?” Beomgyu asks, because he knows that he himself sure as hell didn’t.

“I think so,” Soobin hums, lifting his head off of Beomgyu’s shoulder, and his hand off his knee, and Beomgyu quickly pushes down his disappointment, nonchalantly passing the pen to Soobin who now holds his hand out. Where their fingers touch is warm enough to replace the coldness on Beomgyu’s neck and knee, and Beomgyu almost hates how gone he is for this boy.

(Almost. Not quite. What can he say? How one could not be gone for Choi Soobin was an entity beyond him.)

Soobin twirls the pen in his hand the same way Beomgyu did before he had started drawing, and the pen immediately flies out of his grasp. He whines as he goes to retrieve it, and Beomgyu can’t help the grin that spreads wide across his face. Soobin then rights himself, pen attacking the paper, eyes focused and lips pouting on concentration. God, Soobin was so painstakingly cute. Probably the most adorable person in the entire world, if he was being honest.

(Whipped, a voice in his head scoffs, and it suspiciously sounds like Taehyun. Beomgyu makes a mental reminder to hit him whenever he next sees the boy.)

“Okay so, like this?” Soobin says after a little bit, and Beomgyu leans over to look as Soobin’s hand continues scratching at the paper with the pen, staccato-like strokes as he carefully sketches.

“Relax a little bit, you don’t have to be so careful when you're drawing. Just let the pen glide across the paper, y’know?” Beomgyu says. Soobin taps his chin with his other hand, before speaking up again:

“Can you show me?”

Beomgyu tilts his head, not exactly sure how to go about it— people always say in passing that they should teach him how to draw, but it never actually ends up happening— not until now, at least.

“Uh, I’m not sure—”

“Like this,” Soobin says, and he drops the pen momentarily to grab Beomgyu, correcting his body positioning until he’s seemingly satisfied. It ends with Beomgyu kneeling behind Soobin, with his arms hanging over Soobin’s long shoulders, and Beomgyu’s hand atop Soobin as they both hold the pen.

Well, shit. Would you look at that.

“Like this?” Beomgyu squeaks, and ironically it takes a lot of strength to not tense his muscles, trying not to give away the fact that he’s absolutely freaking out right now. He feels Soobin nod beneath him with an affirmative sound, and Beomgyu swallows before letting out a careful breath, and focusing on the task at hand.

Right. Teaching him how to draw. Something about gliding. Right.

And glide they do.

Beomgyu’s hand guides Soobin’s own, as the pen moves at a calm pace at a new spot on the page, starting with the circle and the guidelines for the eyes and the jaw. Soobin leans back into him comfortably, and if it wasn’t for the couch behind them, Beomgyu would have fallen backward.

Other than Soobin being pressed up against him, he’s able to fare better this time. Feeling a little bold, he moves his head so that it could be right beside Soobin, allowing himself to have a better view of the sketch as they drew it, and continues with any further explanations anytime Soobin asks another question, softly speaking next to Soobin’s ear.

(“Are you okay?” Beomgyu questions.

“Huh?”

“You shivered a little bit. Do you need something?”

“Oh, um, nah I’m— good.” Soobin’s words are slightly stilted.

Beomgyu hums, accepting the answer anyway.)

The drawing is finished without further ado, another Sailor Moon smiling at them, this time with the accompaniment of a shaky-looking peace sign that Soobin had tacked on at the end. And with the task finished, it meant that Beomgyu should probably move away, back to his spot next to Soobin, as a normal person would.

Unfortunately, he’s a normal person with a gigantic crush, and so he does nothing of the sort.

“Is there anything else you want to draw?” Beomgyu asks, head now resting on Soobin’s shoulder. He takes a chance and lets his arms rest loosely around Soobin’s waist. Soobin doesn’t move from his spot, and so Beomgyu hopes it’s okay.

Soobin tilts his head, probably in thought, and silence settles over them for a few moments. And then:

“What about two people kissing? How do I draw that?”

Beomgyu stifles the upcoming cough with the clearing of his throat, because he doesn’t want to cough all over Soobin and make him move away. (And, there should be no reason that the question would have such an effect on him. Nope, no reason at all!)

“Uh, well that’s a jump! I haven’t even shown you how to draw a side profile, and now you want to draw two,” Beomgyu says, voice higher than he’d like.

“I guess I can just be a little impatient sometimes,” Soobin laughs, and Beomgyu violently reminds himself that Soobin is talking about drawing, and nothing else

“Okay… the way I learned it, it’s easy if you start by drawing a heart.” Beomgyu brings his hand up to lay it over Soobin again, and they move the pen in tandem, drawing a heart at the bottom of the page.

“Wow, romantic,” Soobin singsongs, and Beomgyu immediately draws a line down the middle. “Not so romantic, I guess?” Soobin pouts beside him, and Beomgyu chuckles.

“No no, it’ll be romantic when we’re done,” he says, powering through before there’s any room for his words to be interpreted differently, “The line is going to be where their faces meet. We can start with this side first. So, start by drawing a little curve here—”

The process is straightforward and simple enough, Beomgyu teaching his way through the first face, before allowing Soobin to take the lead and draw the other face. While his lines were still a bit wobbly, it still looked pretty good for someone that doesn’t draw pretty often. Beomgyu tops it off with stars, crescent moons, and hearts surrounding the kissing faces, and they take a moment to admire the work.

“Ah, it’s cute!” Soobin claps excitedly, and Beomgyu nods next to him.

“Forgot to add details though… I guess these are just random people then.”

“Mm. Is it… a guy and a girl kissing?”

Beomgyu shrugs. “It doesn’t have to be,” he says thoughtfully. “It could be anyone really.”

Soobin goes quiet. “...Anyone?”

Beomgyu lifts his head off of the older’s shoulder, to look at him more properly. “I mean, uh… yeah?”

Soobin’s looking back at him with a certain look in his eye, and Beomgyu can’t get a read on what it is. It doesn’t matter though, because Soobin’s eyes look away, look down , then back at him again.

“It could be us,” he says. It’s in a low whisper, and if Beomgyu wasn’t so close, wasn’t paying attention, he would have missed—

Wait. Wait. Wait, wait wait wait

You should kiss him, Kai’s words from the other day echo chamber in his brain.

Well.

Before Beomgyu could mull and process anymore, he rushes forward to do just that.

Except instead of their lips touching, their noses bump together instead, and Beomgyu yelps, pulling back and stumbling away from Soobin, rubbing at his nose. When he looks at the other boy again, there’s a red spot on Soobin’s nose, and he looks at Beomgyu with widened eyes and a parted mouth.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry, that was clumsy of me I shouldn’t have—”

Beomgyu’s words are cut off completely when Soobin crawls forward and over Beomgyu so suddenly, and pulls him in, sealing his lips with a sweet, quick kiss. When they part so soon, they both look at each other with wide eyes for a moment, before it cracks, and the first giggle escapes Beomgyu’s lips. Soon, Soobin is joining in, and they laugh together, high off the small adrenaline rush and the small dose of kissing that they experienced.

When they stop laughing, they just look at each other and Beomgyu smiles widely again, bringing their foreheads together (softly!)

“Hyung,” Beomgyu says, voice barely above a whisper. “I like you. So much. I think about you all the time, and I always feel like I miss you when you aren’t around. It’s kinda embarrassing, but that kinda translates into my drawings too. I draw you a lot,” Beomgyu confesses, feeling a warm brush settle on his cheeks, gaze looking away. “So, I really hope I’m not sorely mistaken and somehow reading this wrong. I’ve, uh, been thinking about this for a while now.”

Soobin hums, bringing a hand to wrap around the base of Beomgyu’s neck, playing at the hair that’s been growing into a mullet-like style. He tilts Beomgyu’s head up gently, so that they could make eye contact. “Have you?” He says, leaning almost teasingly, brushing their noses together. Beomgyu could only nod, now unsure if he could trust his voice, and Soobin smiles, an earnest, happy one.

“I’ve been thinking about this moment for a while now too, Beomgyu yah. I like you a lot too.”

Beomgyu takes in a small breath, looking up at Soobin with bright eyes.

“May I kiss you again, Gyu yah?” Soobin says, voice barely a whisper.

“Please,” Beomgyu sighs, eager, and Soobin obliges, pressing soft lips into his own.

As Beomgyu finds out, Soobin kisses softly, but firm, just like the way he holds himself. Beomgyu takes the liberty to cup Soobin’s face with his hands, just to ensure that Soobin couldn’t move away, just so that Beomgyu could catch every last breath that escapes him. Soobin kisses down on his bottom lip, teeth sinking lightly into softness, and Beomgyu lets out a small, embarrassing sound. He can feel Soobin smiling into him, as the other boy pulls away for a moment before pushing forward, their noses touching again, and Beomgyu finds his back hitting the soft carpeted floor underneath him, and arms trapping either side of his head, only Soobin being in his line of vision.

The older boy hovers over Beomgyu for a moment, eyes raking over him for a moment, and Beomgyu squirms lightly under Soobin’s intense gaze.

“You’re such a beautiful person,” Soobin says softly, and, if Beomgyu’s face wasn’t already red, then it definitely was now, with the way he felt a flush in his cheeks all the way down to his neck, disappearing in his shirt collar. Beomgyu could only let out a soft whimper, unable to form any coherent sentence in his current predicament, and Soobin giggles, a hand shifting to run it through Beomgyu’s hair, momentarily clearing the bangs from his head to plant a soft kiss there, before another on his eyebrow, and then on his nose, which makes Beomgyu laugh in return.

Soobin kisses at the corner of Beomgyu’s lips, then the other, leans down to kiss Beomgyu head-on, only to pause dramatically over him. Beomgyu is able to gather his thoughts enough for a moment to sneak his hand under Soobin’s shirt, giving a small pinch in the older’s side.

“Just kiss me again, you idiot,” Beomgyu laughs as Soobin flinches from the pinch, and frowns before it immediately breaks down in a laugh, though he pulls away further, teasing.

“Yah, we kiss for 1 minute and you’re already calling me an idiot,” he mockingly huffs, and Beomgyu immediately pouts, rubbing Soobin’s skin placatingly.

“I was kidding,” Beomgyu whines, “Don’t go,” he continues, and Soobin lets out another set of laughs, throwing himself into the crook of Beomgyu’s neck, shoulders shaking. When Soobin rises again, he’s now back to a close proximity that Beomgyu has quickly come to approve of, and Beomgyu continues rubbing circles on Soobin’s bare side, looking up at Soobin’s eyes.

“Will you please kiss me again, hyung?” Beomgyu says, and he must have set something right, because Soobin’s lips part, and a pretty flush decorates his face, and it's the most beautiful sight that Beomgyu has had the pleasure of seeing.

Soobin responds by doing just that, and presses into Beomgyu once more.

“Hyung, we aren’t even in the same major,” Taehyun says drily, as he, Yeonjun and Kai walk up the steps to Yeonjun and Beomgyu’s shared apartment.

“Yeah, yeah, very minor detail. It got me out didn’t it?” Yeonjun flaps his hand dismissively as he goes for the doorknob.

“You guys don’t lock your front door?” Kai says curiously.

“Sometimes we leave it unlocked by accident— don’t tell anyone that, though. You’re welcome to drop by anytime you want, just open the door!” Yeonjun says cheerfully, as he twists the doorknob and, sure enough, the door opens readily. Taehyun and Kai share a look, one that radiates strong judgment, but don’t say anything as they follow Yeonjun inside.

“It’s been a while so I think that we’re in the—” Yeonjun cuts himself off with a loud yelp, which is followed by two louder yelps. Taehyun and Kai peak around Yeonjun, to find a Soobin hyung very much on top of a Beomgyu hyung.

“Wow, you guys move fast,” Taehyun chirps, a shit-eating grin on his face, moving past them and into the kitchen, “I don’t think I’ll be sitting there though, for the foreseeable future. You can’t do that on a bed?”

We aren’t doing anything,” Soobin says, voice high pitched and sheepish, holding down a riled up Beomgyu from going over and possibly attacking Taehyun.

“You aren’t doing anything,” Kai echos, unimpressed. “Then what business do you have straddling Beomgyu hyung? And don’t say it’s a ‘homie’ thing.”

“My carpet floor!” Yeonjun squeaks, hands on his head, a horrified look adorning his face. Beomgyu zones in on Yeonjun immediately at that, eyes narrowing.

“Don’t act like you weren’t doing worse with Taehyun last week!” Beomgyu screeches, pointing an accusing finger. “I’m still afraid to step into the bathroom!”

“It’s a bathroom,” Yeonjun screeches back, and Taehyun decidedly keeps his mouth shut, while Hueningkai laughs, throwing his head back. Soobin merely sighs, resting his head on Beomgyu’s shoulder.

“Calm down, Gyu yah,” he murmurs, rubbing a soothing hand along Beomgyu’s side, before pressing a single, long kiss into Beomgyu’s neck. Beomgyu squeaks, his own hand at Soobin’s side clutching at the fabric of his shirt.

“O-okay,” Beomgyu stutters out, feeling his face heat again.

“Get a room, oh my god!” Yeonjun shouts from the kitchen.

“We can join them for now,” Beomgyu sighs, and Soobin nods into the crook of Beomgyu’s neck before detaching himself, and standing up. Beomgyu joins him.

“Wait,” Soobin says, and Beomgyu looks up at him expectantly. Soobin suddenly looks shy, standing before him. “We can talk in more detail later but uhm— we can be like… boyfriends now, right?”

Boyfriends. Beomgyu finds himself very pleased at the term, a term that would now be able to describe them.

“Of course, hyungie. I’d love that.” Beomgyu giggles sweetly, leaning up a little to drop a kiss on the tip of Soobin’s nose, and a smile adorns the other boy’s face, flustered and happy all at once.

“Down the hall, and to your right! It’s still there!”

“Shut up, Yeonjun hyung!”
