Work Text:
Eyes opened then shut again. He couldn’t sleep, but then again that was a normal occurence for Min Yoongi. Soft grumbles left his lips as he turned again onto his right side, pulling the blanket over his head. The sun was rising, he could just about tell from the light peeking through his bedroom’s curtains. With it being Saturday, he could do what he wanted. No class, no responsibilities. Except he forgot one little thing.
Almost as if he had been summoned, a weight sat at the edge of his bed, pulling at the covers. “Hyung!” That voice made him turn yet again onto his other side, hands clamping his ears. Ready for tonight?” Jimin had decided to lay next to him now, still peeling away the blanket or at least trying to. Hands snatched it back each time as Yoongi frowned.
He groaned as he poked out his head, not happy but deciding it was best to relent. Jimin wasn’t the type to give up. Stubborn, but then again, so he was himself. “Yeah, yeah, it’s still early, go bother someone else.” He mumbled with a slight pout, knowing that would do little to convince him.
“But I live with you?” He chuckled, as he prodded Yoongi’s cheek. “You don’t like having me as a roommate?” He tilted his head. Yoongi sighed as he shook his.
“Of course I do. You’re my best friend, Jimin.” Slowly, he sat up, rubbing his eyes. “I’d do anything for you.” His tired eyes locked onto his friend’s , with a half smile. He wasn’t wrong about that, he would literally do anything. Jimin just nodded as he made no effort to move from the bed. Instead, he curled a stray strand of Yoongi’s hair around his finger.
“I know. And I really can’t thank you enough for tonight.” His voice was softer as he leaned onto Yoongi’s side. Truth be told, he didn’t know why they had to do this but anything for him. Anything.
He let his arms engulf his friend, hugging him for a good minute before letting go. “You don’t need to. I said I’ll do any favour you want, even if that means pretending to be your boyfriend for this party thing that you don’t even want to go to in the first place” Yoongi rolled his eyes as Jimin scoffed, taking the nearest pillow and whacked him on the shoulder with it.
“I would stay home if I could but my parents expect me there and I’m not going there without a date. I’m sick of them asking me why I’m still single. My brother still wants to set me up with his work friend who is the most boring person on the planet by the way.” Jimin sighed with a huff, his chin landing on Yoongi’s shoulder.
Yoongi wrapped his arm around Jimin’s waist, hugging him again. “I know , I know. I’m always here for you, remember that.” He smiled as his friend sank into his arms, mumbling although he could catch what he said. “I do have to get dressed though.” He chuckled as he gently stroked his friend’s cheek. Jimin clung to him for a moment before finally detaching himself.
“Oops sorry!” He chuckled as he stood. “Oh...I think I’m late for work.”
Yoongi laughed, shaking his head. “Go , go! I’ll see you later. Don’t worry too much okay?”
Jimin smiled. “Love you Hyung.”
He loved him too, in more ways than one.

Standing outside of Jimin’s brother’s restaurant, Yoongi could tell he was nervous. He grabbed his shaking hand in his own, holding it tight. “Hey, don’t worry, it’ll be okay.” He tried to reassure him, as best as he could. Yoongi didn’t know an awful lot about Jimin’s family life but he was going to be there for him regardless. He watched Jimin draw in a breath before stepping forward. He moved with him, pushing open the door together.
“I can do this.” He could hear Jimin mutter quietly as Yoongi held his hands tighter. Once the door was open, they made their way inside. It was fairly busy, filled with people he didn’t know. Except for..
“Taehyung!” Jimin beamed as he practically launched himself at his friend. He was the same age as Jimin, went to the same highschool, took the same major. Practically soulmates, but more in a platonic way, as Jimin put it. Beside him was Jungkook. Another one of his friends. Taehyung’s boyfriend if he could remember correctly.
“Hi.” Yoongi smiled, his eyes still searching around. It was hard to contrate with so much going on but at least he had Jimin to ground him. Parties or crowds when never really his thing but he promised to do this. For him.
“Ah you’re Jimin’s roommate right?” Jungkook asked then glanced down at their intertwined hands. “Are you guys dating?”
Taehyung snorted then nudged Jimin’s arm. “When were you going to tell me you were dating Yoongi hyung? I thought we didn't keep secrets!” He teased as Yoongi watched Jimin’s cheeks flush bright red. His eyes went straight to Jimin who was struggling to look his friends in the eye. Just a short distance away, he could see Jimin’s brother approaching.
“Um yeah. It’s recent, right babe?” Jimin put on a smile, hardly convincing but Yoongi had to play along. That was the promise. He nodded as he pecked Jimin’s cheek.
“Yeah, I asked him out a couple weeks ago.” Trying to lie right on the spot was not the easiest thing for Yoongi to do but he had to at least try. He watched their faces, trying to gauge a reaction. He couldn’t tell, to be honest, but they both just smiled.
“Double date next week!” Jungkook grinned as he looped himself around Taehyung. Jimin nodded as he gripped Yoongi’s hand tighter.
“Of course.” He turned his head, eyeing his brother. “Hyung.” He smiled. From what he could recall, Jihyun, was a nice guy. He could see why he wanted to set Jimin up with someone nice, he deserved all the happiness. He could understand why Jimin felt pressured, although he didn’t need to. He could just be honest but Yoongi guessed he didn’t want to be mean to the person who he thought was boring.
“I guess you don’t need to meet Jihoon then.” Jihun grinned as he looked back , a taller looking guy waving. Oh. He was something, good looking in every sense. But he wasn’t Jimin. wasn’t Jimin’s type.
Jimin nodded. “Yeah, yeah. Sorry. Tell him next time.” Yoongi shot Jimin a look. “I was kidding! Silly. I love you.” He wrapped his arm around Yoongi’s waist.
“Well I’ll leave you two lovebirds to it then.” Jihyun laughed, shaking his head as he walked away. Jimin separated himself soon as he left, going back towards Jungkook and Taehyung.
“Come on!” He beckoned but Yoongi shook his head. He didn’t know why, but he felt like he needed some air.
“You go ahead, I’m going to the bathroom.” He half smiled as Jimin shrugged, buying the excuse.
He needed a minute. Or six.

After sitting outside for a good ten minutes , he did return, long enough to talk to Jimin's parents and play the loved up couple they were supposed to be. It was pretend, for show, but a part of him felt odd. Or was it longing? He didn’t know anymore. Before long, the evening was already winding down. They were saying goodbye to Taehyung when Jimin turned to him to whisper in his ear.
“We should kiss.” He smirked as Yoongi blinked.
“We should what ?” Yoongi choked out as Jimin just chuckled pulling him closer.
“If we want to be a convincing couple we have to!” He was now so close he could feel his breath on his cheeks. His cheeks were flushing red and just before he could even protest, his face was taken in Jimin’s hands as his lips crashed against his. He felt the wind rush out of him, barely being able to process what had just happened.
Instead, he just stared at Jimin , whose hands were sitting comfortably on his waist. They stayed there, just staring at each other for what seemed like an age before Yoongi found the right words. “That was…wow” He smiled as he watched Jimin glance to the side. His friend’s had already dispersed, his family gone.
Suddenly, Jimin’s hands dropped and pulled away immediately. “I think they bought it, don’t you think?” He had already started walking towards the car.
Oh
“Yeah, yeah totally.” Yoongi half smiled, recollecting himself. Maybe it was a bad thing to think that this meant anything than just a façade. A promise to a friend, that was all it really was.

The next day started off as it always did. He had work to do for class, got up early and sat at the desk in his room. Usually he would sit in the living room with Jimin and watch some random variety show. Or some corny drama that always made Yoongi roll his eyes and point out the plot holes. Jimin never minded though. Today, he didn’t want to bother him. He wanted to focus on his work, distract himself. That was all he could do. He didn’t expect to feel so conflicted, then again he didn’t expect that kiss. He closed his eyes for a moment, frowning. Trying to concentrate just wasn’t working. He got up from his seat and wandered into their own living room area and went into the kitchen. Sure enough Jimin was on the couch, watching a cheesy drama from what he could tell. “I think we saw this one. The guy falls in love with the librarian and there’s a love triangle and…” He trailed off as Yoongi grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and started back towards his room. “Yoongi?” Jimin looked up. He was pouting, already scrambling to his feet. Yoongi just sighed as he walked past him. “Are you ignoring me?” Jimin’s face fell. Tone had changed, his footsteps quickening as he placed a hand on Yoongi’s shoulder.
“Not now Jimin, I have to study.”
He didn’t buy it, as he didn’t move. “Yeah right. You’ve been weird with me.”
Yoongi shrugged. “What? No I haven’t.”
Again, he wasn’t buying it. “Yes you have! Since last night. Tell me what’s wrong/” His tone softened , his hand dropping to his side.
“I’m fine.” Yoongi mumbled, rubbing the back of his head.
Jimin scoffed. “You can’t just ignore me forever. Did I do something?” He was rambling so fast but Yoongi’s eyes are firm on the ground.
“No, no.” He sighed, as Jimin frowned, his hand cupping Yoongi’s cheek.
“Then tell me.” His lip quivered and Yoongi sighed.
“I can’t.” That was all he could manage out.
“Please...please.” His eyes were pleading and Yoongi just stared. He couldn’t...he couldn’t…So he tried to walk away. “You can’t avoid everything, Hyung. Stop it!” His voice was desperate , and he looked...upset.
“But isn’t that what you do?” Words tumbled out of Yoongi’s mouth before he could think. “Sorry , sorry I…”
“ What ? What do you mean? When I do fucking avoid anything?” It was so fast, the way Jimin’s expression changed. But he could tell it was more from being hurt then anger.
Fuck, fuck.
“You avoid dates, make up excuses.”
Jimin scoffed. “ I told you why. I don’t need anyone.”
“Right. Right. You don’t need anyone. You practically fucking ran after we kissed last night. Was I that repulsive to you?” He stared, and couldn’t stop. The blood was rushing to his head, he gripped the couch for support. He couldn’t stop, he couldn’t stop his words from pouring out.
Jimin glared at him then tilted back his head as he laughed. “Is this what it’s about?”
“No..I just…”
Jimin scoffed as he neared Yoongi again. “What? I’m not a mind reader Hyung.”
“I’m in love with you.” Again, his mind was running away with him. No turning back now
Jimin stared, hard. “What...what did you just say?”
Yoongi drew in a breath, his eyes on anywhere that wasn’t Park Jimin. “I knew that it was just for that night. And it was nice...but I know it can’t be reality. I mean, you don’t feel the same, clearly.”
“Hold on a second.” Jimin held out his hand in front of him. “One, you can't just assume how I feel and two, go back to what you said before. Was it because of the kiss. Was I that good?”
Yoongi chuckled as he found the courage to look upward and meet Jimin’s gaze. “No, well yeah. But, I’ve been in love with you since you moved in.” He answered quietly.
“And you didn’t think to tell me?” Jimin frowned as he nudged Yoongi’s elbow playfully.
He shrugged. “I didn’t know if you felt the same and you were so adamant about not dating anyone so…”
“That’s because I guess I never found the right person. Or maybe they were there all along...” Jimin was standing in front of him now, hands resting on his shoulders. “No one really compares to you.”
Yoongi’s eyes widened. “What are you saying?”
Before he could speak, soft lips were on his. The lightest of kisses, but it meant everything. This time , it was Yoongi who pulled away to gaze into Jimin’s eyes. He didn’t know what to say anymore, a soft hand caressing his cheek. “See? This time I’m not running away.. “ He smiled. “I do like you Hyung. The kiss last night, I’ve kissed lots of people before but it wasn't like that. I dunno, I guess it just scared me. Because we’re friends and-” Yoongi cut him off as he kissed him back.
“We’ll always be friends Jimin, we don’t have to rush into anything.”
“Really?”
Yoongi held onto his hand, intertwining their fingers. “Really. Take all the time you need.” And he meant that.
Jimin was grinning as he hugged Yoongi closer. “So I'll call Taehyung and arrange that double date then?” He was smirking and Yoongi shot him a look.
“You sure?”
“Yeah. I can’t be afraid of dates forever. Besides, I actually like you, and you’re not some bore.” Yoongi snorted as he rested his head on his shoulder.
“Don’t ever change, Jimin.”
