Work Text:
“Hey, girl.” You said to Naga, walking up to her with a treat. She eagerly took the treat out of your hand and devoured it. She then licked you happily with her enormous pink tongue. You giggled. “Ugh, you know that won’t wash out!”, you laughed. You scratched her behind the ears. She rolled over on her back and you rubbed her big polar bear dog belly. “You trust me, don’t you?”
“She normally doesn’t take that quickly when warming up to strangers!” Korra said, walking up behind you.
You jumped, startled. You thought you were alone. “Oh… yeah.” You said, suddenly very nervous and aware of the Avatar being in front of you. “I love being around them. It feels like… they understand me, you know?”
Korra smiled sweetly. “Yeah. Naga’s a great listener, aren’t you, girl?” Korra patted Naga on the head. “I can listen too. Something on your mind? Someone a lot wiser than me once said it’s healthy to talk about our fears, instead of bottling them up.”
You couldn’t help it, and tears started flowing down your face. “I… I’m so scared about the battle with the Water Tribe tomorrow…”
Korra put a hand on your shoulder softly. “You don’t know the meeting will result in that. Best we can all do is remain calm.” She comforted you.
“How do you know it won’t?”
“I don’t, but, we can’t expect the worst just yet.”
Your crying subsided. You didn’t realise Korra was gazing deep into your eyes. You recognised that look, but, *no… it couldn’t be*, you thought. You were too ordinary and unimportant for someone amazing like the Avatar to be falling in love with you.
Then, as if to prove you wrong, Korra’s soft lips met your own for a few moments.
“You gonna be okay now?” Korra asked.
You nodded shyly, stunned by what just happened, and the dark skinned girl smiled softly.
