Chapter 1: ☔

Chapter Text

rainy afternoons.

It was something that xu minghao enjoyed a lot. but today the rain only made him feel sadder. as he listened to the faint yells that went over his music that was blasting into his ears from his cheap earphones he bought online, he made his sandwich in the kitchen. his parents, the ex-lovers, seemed to be wasting their words on each other.

a frustrated sigh left his lips, but it was, of course, inaudible. he set the ham sandwich in a ziplock bag before placing it into his backpack, sneaking out from the back door, hopping over the fence and walking away from something that didn't feel like home. he lowered the volume to his music a little, throwing his hoodie over his head as he continued to stroll in the rain.

wen junhui spent his afternoon watching the rain fall down the car window. he had been in the car for about three hours, driving to their new home. his aunt sat in the driver's side, her voice blabbing on and on about what he needed to join once he started school. to be honest, all the brown-haired boy cared about was dance.

the way it distracted him from everything and the way it made him feel safe was the part he enjoyed most. as the newly bought car stopped in front of a two-story house, junhui couldn't help but roll his eyes. he stepped out of the car, not caring if the rain dropped down on him.

he slammed the door shut, hoping to get his aunt to finally shut up, which worked as she closed her lips instantly - only now noticing how down mood. he looked out at the neighbourhood, noticing that a boy hopping over his fence. he found himself chuckling at sight, knowing how annoyed teenagers could get at their caregivers.

minghao didn't go anywhere too far but rather to the rooftop to a cafe that his friend worked at. it was slightly crazy how careless his friend was, knowing well enough that his boss wasn't too keen on just letting anyone up the top - but mingyu was more than happy to let his friend head up.

he gave a small nod to the worker behind the desk. "rooftop, again?" mingyu questioned and to which his black-haired friend nodded. mingyu softly hummed and his hand pointed towards where the keys hung, grinning to himself as he turned around and focused back on the order he needed to prepare.

minghao and mingyu - along with vernon, wonwoo and dino - were best friends and have been since kindergarten. crazy group, by the way. and ever since mingyu got a job at the cafe, the group would constantly hang out here no matter if the boy was working or not.

minghao came up to the rooftop a lot when he needed an escape from his parents that would constantly fight. he furrowed his eyebrows when he sunk down onto the couch, pulling out his sandwich, slowly starting to eat it while watching the droplets of rain land down onto the concrete.

he sighed to himself while resting his head back onto the back of the couch that sat under shade. "your lips, my lips, apocalypse," he sang under his breath.

junhui fell back against his bed after he finished setting up his room. a few hours had passed along after he and his aunt moved into the house. it was quiet and not many words were traded between the two.

he was exhausted at this point at his eyes felt heavy.

despite that, he pushed himself up and used his last bit of energy to make late dinner. his aunt would have already left seeing as she worked as a police officer and worked on multiple cases - that only being the reason why they moved. she had received a promotion here in seoul and took it right away.

of course, he was happy for her. he just wished she had at least talked to him about it first.

no one really knew about his... problem.

apart from two of his close friends, no one knew he was a mono.

he was colourblind and had been born that way. his mother had also been a mono and she always gushed about her husband, talking about how he had shown her the beautiful colours in life. until one night he had committed suicide and that left his mother more than heartbroken.

he always knew she died of heartbreak, her one love had died so he understood... but everyone around him always said she committed a sin and overdosed herself on drugs too. but he ignored those words every time.

so with his aunt working at the police station and him simply being a student, both of them were always busy doing their own things. junhui didn't mind much but he will admit, he wished for a bit of happiness in his dull life.

everything around him was different shades of black and white and it bummed him out more than words could express.

so with his head held high, he decided to try to find some source of happiness no matter how dark things would be.

oh and one other thing? to never find his probe.
