Chapter Text

Carcass Snyper, Raiden Chrollo. Two young teenagers that were on their way home from school. They had completely different home lives, and yet they bonded like no other. "Oii! Hurry up slow ass." Carcass chuckled, watching Raiden run to try and catch up with him. "Oh f-fuck off!" He panted as he finally caught up with him. He was sweating so much that his red t-shirt was sticking to his body. Carcass and him liked to run home from school as a form of Exercise, but he could never come close to matching him in speed. "One day i'll beat you in a race damnit." "HAH, in your dreams. It's been barely half a mile yet you're sweating bullets." "You cheat!" "How so? Sounds to me like you just can't win." Raiden playfully punched Carcass in the shoulder, then ruffled his light brown hair with his hand. "Oii! What're you doing don't touch my hair!" He slapped Raiden's hand away. "Oh oh right my bad, can't have you loosing your $10 perm that you did in your basement during a party." They both laughed as they walked. As they continued their walk, they talked and laughed about school. In one of Raiden's classes today, they were talking about the organic compounds and two kids started making out in the back of the class, but when the teacher called them out they stood up and did it again. "God damn some kids just can't keep it in their pants." The light brown haired boy said. Raiden ran his hand through his fluffy red hair. "It was really embarrassing, the teacher stood there not knowing what to do for a solid minute." "I'd kick them out and tell them to go fuck in the nurses office or something" "Cas that's disgusting." "Aye, you and I both know it's happened." "Fucking weirdo- Anyway, they ended up getting sent to the principals office. As far as I know they got a detention." "I'll betcha they-" "NO" He laughed loudly. "How was your day, fucking weirdo." "That hurt my feelings- My day was fine. " "You're lying. I heard the rumors, dumbass. You got into a fight?" "It's really nothing, the guy came at me so I kicked his ass." "Did you atleast win?" Carcass scoffed. "Of course I did." "Good. If you didn't win I woulda kicked your ass." "You'd loose." "Really now? I can take you, Mr. Snyper." "Oh, last name basis I see? I'm kinda into that." He snorted. "Fucking gay ass" "Only for you." He winked. "Cut it out!" Raiden exploded with laughter. "Alright, alright, but aye if you ever need a bootycall-" "CARCASS! SHUT UP!" His face was a bright red. Carcass made a zipping motion over his mouth, smiling a cheeky smile. "When we get home, u down to come over to my house and work on homework?" "Sure, I was kinda having trouble with chemistry." "When are you not having trouble with chemistry." "It's hard!" "I gotcha, little bro." He rubbed his hand through the redhead's hair. "I'm gonna fuck you up. We are literally the same age." "Technically-" "Shut the fuck up with your technicalities." "..I mean i am a month older." Raiden stopped. "OH WOW, A WHOLE MONTH OLDER. YOU MUST BE SO MUCH WISER" He facepalmed. "Damn right, who's the one failing chemistry." Carcass toyed. "I told you, it's a hard subject." "Sure, sure, I bet it is real hard to focus when people wont stop fucking in class." "It is! They're so loud." "Next time they do it throw a condom at them or something." He cackled. "You know what, I think I just might." "Tell me their reaction if you d-" He was interrupted by a small figure suddenly gripping his leg for dear life. He panicked and tried to fling it off but quickly stopped when he realized it was a kid. The kid had dark blue hair- or maybe it was just dirty. His clothes were torn and frayed and he had visible cuts and bruises that covered nearly his whole body. "Holy shit." Carcass gently kneeled down to the little kid after peeling their body off of his leg. "Hey kid, what happened?" Raiden also kneeled down and as Carcass handed him his jacket, he wrapped it around the small child. The kid curled into the jacket for support, shaking his head fiercely at Carcass. "Cas we need to get to the hospital" "Yeah." He slowly picked up the trembling kid, holding them close. They started squirming, begging to not go to the hospital. The boy kicked and punched at Carcass in his attempt to get away. Carcass grabbed the boy's arms roughly. "Alright, we'll just take you home and patch you up then." They took the kid home. When they got home Raiden quickly grabbed the first aid kit as Carcass started patching up the wounds as best as he could. He was grateful for getting in so many fights now because it taught him how to patch himself up. Raiden also went and grabbed some of his clothes for the boy to wear. "They're gonna be a bit big." "I don't think he minds." Carcass lightly went to remove the boys ripped shirt to put on the new one and nearly gagged at what he saw. The boy had a large slash on his chest that looked more recent. Despite cringing at the blood that was drenching his hand, Carcass quickly stitched up the cut with some thread he used for fixing Raiden's clothes that he ruined from trying-- and failing skateboard tricks. After that Raiden and Carcass both worked together to get the boy cleaned up, and slipped some clothes on him afterwards. Carcass walked into the kitchen to make food for him while Raiden spoke with the boy as much as he was willing to speak. "Hey kid, what's your name?" "..." He sighed, this was going to be harder than he thought it was. "Do you have parents?" A slight head shake. So he was all alone? Then who did that to him? "I see, thank you for telling me." He smiled encouragingly. "How old are you?" A shrug. How did he not know his age? "Alright, well." Looking the boy up and down, he gave a rough estimate. "You look to be about.. hm.. 7 or 8 I'd say. How's that sound?" A nod. "Who did this to you, kid?" His voice was high-pitched and trembling when he finally spoke just above a whisper. "The men." Raiden listened intensely now, leaning forward to show the kid that he was going to pay attention. "What men?" "The ones at the scary place, they told me it was because of some ket-.. Kon-.. Kondit-... Kon-ditch-ion-, It was a big word." "Conditions?" He nodded. "We can take you to the police, alright? They can help track down the men and give them what they deserve, alright?" Raiden was surprisingly good with children, unlike Carcass who tended to be more straightforward. "Cas! How's the food comin'?" "It's ready but you ain't eating on the couch. Come in here." He gently helped the boy into a chair as Cas set the food down in front of them. He looked at the food skeptically then slowly started eating it. Once he realized that the food was good, he quickly scarfed it down. "Did you get a name out of him?" "No, but I did get some information we could tell the police." "But where's he gonna go, Ray?" "What do you mean." "Does he have parents?" "No, but-" "But what? You take him to the police without a plan and they'll put the poor boy in foster care." "Yeah.. and you know better than anyone what happens to kids in foster care.." Carcass looked away. He disliked talking about that part of his past. "We could take care of him." "What?" "I said, we could take care of him. We have jobs so we have the money, we can just share our money when it comes to taking care of him- kinda like child support." "Cas we are kids ourselves, we can't take in and raise a kid." "It's better than foster care." "That's true but-" "Do you not want him to live here?" "No but-" He sighed. "I suppose you're right. I'll clean out the room you save for me whenever I come spend the night when we get back from the police station." "Alright." he turned to the kid. "Oii. Let's go. We're taking you to the police station." Raiden chimed in. "Please tell them everything you know, okay?" He nodded. As they drove there, Carcass planned out how money would work for the kid and all about how we planned to raise him. When we got at the station we reluctantly walked him in. "May I help you guys?" The receptionist spoke. "Yeah, actually. We'd like to report a crime." Her eyes squinted. "Alright, I'm listening." She pulled out a piece of paper. "We found this kid." He motioned to the boy. "He said that some men took him away and abused him. When we found him he was all cut up, but we got him cleaned up." "And you didn't take him to the hospital, correct?" Raiden cut into what Carcass was about to say. "He wouldn't let us and he was already terrified, so we didn't want to make it worse." She nodded then took a look at the boy, her eyes falling on the brand new clothing. "There's nothing we can do." "What the fuck do you mean theres-" Raiden once again interrupted Cas. "Why not?" The woman eyed Cas suspiciously. "Since he looks to be all cleaned up, any form of evidence is gone." "That's bullshit i've seen people on tv do more with less!" Cas finally broke through. "Well, i'm sorry but we don't have as advanced technology. But if we hear anything else about kidnapping we will call you in and compare stories, alright?" Cas was fuming. "So what we have to wait till it fucking happens again? What kind of bulls-" "Alright, thank you for all of your help!" Raiden smiled as he led the trembling boy and the angry Cas out of the police station. "That's fucking bullshit. It makes no fucking sense." "I know, but there's nothing else we can do." "I'll tell you what we're gonna fucking do. We're gonna fucking do it our fucking selves." "Cas we are literally kids, we can't take on kidnappers." "THEN WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO? TELL ME RAIDEN, HONESTLY. BECAUSE IF THE POLICE DON'T WANNA DO THEIR FUCKING JOB THEN THEY'RE GONNA GET AWAY WITH IT AND THEY'RE GONNA KEEP DOING IT TO OTHER KIDS OVER AND OVER DO YOU NOT FUCKING REALIZE THAT? GET IT THROUGH YOUR GOD DAMN HEAD, WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER KIDS ARE OUT THERE IN HIS CONDITION!?" Raiden's eyes flickered to the boy as he gripped onto his leg, shaking more now. "You're scaring the kid- and I get you're frustrated but there's only so much we are gonna be able to do." "Then i'll do as much as we can." He got in the car. Once they followed him, he drove back to their house. The whole car ride was silent. When they got home Raiden cleaned up the spare room, using some extra blankets Cas usually laid out for him and some pillows (he stole one of Cas's pillows-imeanwhat). He made sure that the bed was nice and padded so it wouldn't upset his injuries. He hadn't realized it was nearly midnight when he walked out until he saw how dark it was outside. He went to go tell Cas the room was ready when he saw Cas asleep on the couch, one arm wrapped around the boy who was also asleep, his head on Cas's chest. They both looked so much younger when they were sleeping. He decided not to wake them and pulled out his phone, only to see multiple texts from his parents. 'Where are you??' 'Ray, it's 12:00 AM, please come home we're worried.' 'I know you said you were at Cas's but please tell us when you're spending the night.' He quickly opened his messages and sent a reply. 'I'm sorry, me and Cas found a kid and he's gonna take care of him for the time being--it's a long story but i'm on my way home now.' Ding 'Okay, dinner's in the oven for you, i'm glad you're okay. If you guys need any help with the kid bring him over, alright. But i'll be expecting the full story once you're home.' 'Of course, love you mom. Cya soon.' He closed his phone. After laying a blanket gently over the two sleeping people on the couch, he grabbed his stuff then walked out after leaving a note for Cas on the table infront of the door. They didn't live too far, thankfully. He walked home and his mom was waiting for him in the black leather recliner in the livingroom. "Sit." He sat down slowly, she had set the food infront of him. He slowly picked it up, eating it as they talked. "Explain." He explained the entirety of what happened- from finding the kid, to even deciding to adopt the kid and raise him. "That's going to be a major responsibility, I hope you know. That poor boy's probably got so much trauma." "I know, but Cas is willing to try." "Don't overwork yourself. Alright? You're a good kid but make sure you don't take after your mother and work too hard to try and save the world. You already know how that ends." She looks out the window. As the moonlight illuminated her face, a large scar was seen on her left cheekbone that stretched from her ear to her nose. "I know, I promise i'll be careful." "You better be. Get rest." "Alright, thank you for the food mom." She smiled as he put his dishes in the dishwasher then went to his room. As he laid on his bed, he remembered about the story of his mom's scar. She had been a young girl, around his age, when she was dating a young man. One night after a party, the man excused himself. After an hour and he hadn't came back, she took it upon herself to go investigate. As she walked into the bathroom, she saw the window was open. She walked out into the back alley where the window led and gasped at a sight she would remember for years to come. The man she was dating was standing over a young lady who's body was a lifeless white. Surrounding her was a pool of blood. Her eyes flickered to the man who was dumping buckets of maggots on the lady. She threw up, the noise making the man notice. She looked up, covering the scream that tried to escape her mouth with her hand and backing away as the man slowly walked to her, raising his knife. "You weren't supposed to see that." "P-please let me go.." He laughed, forcing a change in his voice. "I'm sorry." He lowered the knife. "I couldn't help it, she just made me so angry, it won't happen again, I promise. I'm really sorry. I'm a monster, aren't I?" He lowered his head as well. Her eyes went wide with sympathy- that was her weakness. No matter how bad off or evil someone was, she always saw the possibility to change their ways and make them become a better person, it was a habit she never could seem to break herself from. As she walked towards the man, she gently grabbed his bloodstained cheek and through her trembling she forced a smile. "It's okay, we'll get you help and make sure that it doesn't happen again. I know you're sorry. It's okay, everything's gonna be okay but we gotta call the police, okay?" "Okay... I'm so sorry.." he sobbed. She turned to call the police when he stabbed her. He cut her back and when she turned around he slit her cheek nearly in half. She stumbled back screaming and frantically calling the police. As much as she had wanted to help him, fear overtook her in this moment- and honestly i'm grateful it did or I'd never have been born. She tried to fight him off for a solid 3 minutes- which ended up in cuts all over her body. The fight was ended when the police shot into his arm, stopping him from causing further damage and making him stumble back where a cop was behind him, grabbing him and disarming him while putting handcuffs on him. She fell to the ground and all she could remember was the soft voice of the paramedic as they lifted her to the stretcher. "It's going to be okay, he can't hurt you anymore." The next thing she remembered was waking up in the hospital room with her family surrounding her with flowers and gifts. She found out that she had been in a coma for weeks and they honestly weren't too sure that she was going to come out of it. They filled her in on the news about the situation; apparently the man had killed over 23 people in the time they had been dating, but had killed even more before then. They comforted her as she sobbed by telling her that it wasn't her fault and she couldn't have possibly known that he had done all that. They also reassured her safety in telling her that he had been sentenced to over 45 years in prison and even when he got out he was supposed to be sent to a mental facility to live out the rest of his life. She was happy about that, at least. Knowing that one day he would get out and when he did he would get the help he needed. Her family didn't understand her need to make sure everyone would be okay even if it ended in her pain, but the least they could do at this moment was reassure her that she did the right thing and she was only acting in ways she had to. I remembered her telling me this story very strongly. She had said that it was one of the worst moments in her life. After this there was one more time that she trusted someone and they hurt her. From that she learned to always be careful because people tended to not be who they said they were. When she had me the man was horrible to her, blaming her for everything and beating her frequently. After she had me he left, never to be seen again. But just last month she finally settled down and found a nice man who I call my dad now. He's there for her when she has the scariest flashbacks and holds her hand through the phantom pains that sometimes followed the memories. He entertained every single one of Raiden's skateboard tricks (although he almost never succeeded in them) and even tried to learn how to skateboard just so he would have a better understanding of what Ray was talking about. This ended in him ending up with a broken arm, but hey it's the thought that counts. Ray felt himself drifting off to sleep, smiling at all the memories he had with his new dad. Although not biological, he was more of a dad than the biological one would ever be. Sometimes he wondered what life would be if his biological dad stayed, and sometimes he wondered how Carcass would be if he had a dad like Ray's current one. Carcass's family life was something he always kept under lock and key, mainly for the reasons being that- well, let's just say it was still an ongoing investigation. Nonetheless, whenever Ray asked questions and he could tell Cas didn't want to answer, he knew not to push further; that was the best part about their friendship. They were capable of communicating without words. They always knew how best to be there for each other even if no one else did. Everyone deserved a friend like Carcass. 0-
