Chapter 1: The beginning

Chapter Text

“Dad, I want to hear the story.” Tommy sat on his dad’s lap looking at him with big eyes.

“What story?” Phil teased as he opened his own eyes to look at the small blonde.

“The one about the moon and sun gods, I like that one, it’s my favorite.” Tommy smiled, Phil held him as he thought about it.

“Does anyone else want to hear the story?” Phil asked, his other son walked over. The 9 year old smiled as he grabbed another chair and sat down next to his father. “Techno would you?” The pink haired twin shrugged as he sat down on the carpeted floor.

“Why do you even like this story so much, we all know they get together at the end.” Wilbur rolled his eyes as he fiddled with his shirt.

“Well if I knew the story had a happy ending I would like to listen to it, it’s always comforting to know the ending of something sometimes.” Phil said, he ruffled Wilbur’s hair.

“Dad!” Tommy screamed.

“Alright I’m going,” Phil took a breath before continuing. “The story of the sun and moon,”

The world was born, it seemed to be the perfect place. It had oceans as far as the eye could see, land to grow the most beautiful plants and crops, and animals to run free. It only missed one thing, something to keep it all warm and to help make everything grow.

Dream, the creator of this world, created Skeppy.

Skeppy was a god full of energy, he was able to run around for days without running out of a single breath. He would give the humans light, a time in the day to play around outside, and to be able to grow the crops they needed to survive. It was amazing.

But amazing could never last forever.

The humans were growing tired, not of the sun, but just in general. They didn’t have time to sleep, to just relax and look at the stars in the sky, and they couldn’t see the beauty that was the night. They were growing restless from the lack of a good night's rest.

In turn Dream would create Bad, the god of the moon.

Bad was the calmer part, the anti sun of our story. He could still shine even during darkness but it was different, more dim. Bad would give the humans a time to just relax, to see the stars and constellations, to play with fireflies in the fields. It was beautiful.

They were the perfect yin and yang. Keeping peace between everyone.

There was a problem, there always was a problem.

Skeppy wanted to see Bad but he could not, for Bad would isolate himself from everyone. The sun had fallen for the moon, even if he couldn’t see it he saw the god himself, he saw how happy Bad was making the night. Skeppy wanted to talk to him but every time he would attempt something would always get in his way or the moon would slip away from his grasp.

During this time Skeppy had gone to Dream for help.

“I want to talk to him but he’s always leaving or out of my grasp at all times.” Skeppy had crossed his arms with a furrowed brow. He was simply annoyed.

“This doesn’t seem very out of character for the moon god, he likes keeping things in the dark if you will.” Dream chuckled, he turned to the ravenette with a small smile of sympathy.

“Yes of course, but I want to try to have at least one conversation with him, even a simple word will complete me.” Skeppy looked around, he wished he could see the world at night. The humans love it dearly, almost as much as they loved when he would turn it into the day. There were so many things about the night he would hear about when it was his turn, it would make him curious.

“If you’re simply that gone then I will help you,” Skeppy looked up at Dream with a hopeful gleam in his eyes. “I will try to talk to him and put in a good word for you, give him an idea or reason to talk to you.” Dream saw Skeppy’s face, a wide smile slowly creeping onto his face.

“I will appreciate you till the end of time if you do.” Skeppy knew he was lovestruck, it was kinda sad how gone he was. The sun and moon were never supposed to mix together, they were complete opposites of each other. One was full of energy and the other would rather be alone and isolated from the world.

“Time will never end, Skeppy it only goes forward.” Dream stated as he gave Skeppy a final smile.

“Then I’ll appreciate you forever.” Skeppy knew his time was coming to pull the sun up and give the humans light. He was excited and in a very good mood, the humans will get extra light which they’re sure to appreciate.

As time went on Skeppy waited, watching what the humans were doing.

Some were tending to the farm lands, others would be running playing a game of tag, and some, well some would be falling in love. Skeppy loved when they would do that, it just looked so magical and seemed only like a fantasy. It was a weird concept to the god but one that made him want it so bad.

How could one stay with only one person for the rest of their small and natural lives?

Skeppy wished he had an answer. The sun god knew that only time would be able to tell him if he would get one. He had hoped that his question would be able to get answered, but he was dwelling in his own head for too long. Skeppy had people to watch and care for, he knew the moon cared for his job, he knew the moon wanted to do it right.

Cute.

Soon the sun would set, maybe 7 more hours, honestly Skeppy didn’t know. He could go down and introduce himself, but Dream never advised it. Humans were simple and fragile creatures he said, they could die just from simply seeing him out of pure shock. That was weird, and yet he was still so fascinated by them, still so interested in what they were doing to the world.

Skeppy could change his appearance, that was the best thing for him. He would usually just sit with his regular appearance but more human, looking less rich, and more like his humans. He had so much time left so why not go down?

He could get in trouble.

That was only if Dream found out though.

Why not?

Dream could literally poof him out of existence, besides he needed to stay up here and watch the sun.

This is stupid.

Growing annoyed of arguing with his own brain he decided that he would go down, fuck what Dream told him he could change his appearance for a reason. He smiled as he started the change, yea he didn’t change that much once he looked in the mirror.

Skeppy had an idea, he had nothing to do when the moon god was out, he would just sit there not being able to look at the world. He could come down to the earth and see the night, oh how perfect it is. Dream would never know, actually that was very wrong, he could. He’s an all seeing god.

Fuck.

Whatever, he didn’t care. He’s spent almost 30 minutes arguing with himself.

“I’m gonna do what I want.” Skeppy muttered as he finally stepped onto the earth’s land, the grass was as soft as he ever imagined. The town was only a few steps away, it was so much bigger than he thought.

Walking towards the town he saw many people, most waved at him asking where he’s from.

“Just traveling from town to town trying to find the right one.” He would say with a smile, everyone would smile back at him.

“Well this town is amazing, home of the sun and moon gods,” Skeppy smiled at his people. “Actually, the festival for the moon god is tonight, you should come. It's always so beautiful.” Skeppy’s heart started to race.

He completely forgot about the festivals for them both.

“I would love to come, thank you for inviting me.” The villager smiled. Skeppy had just noticed his features. Dirty blonde hair, lots of purpled clothing, and regular brown eyes. He must be pretty wealthy to afford that but Skeppy didn’t care, his parents worked.

“Everyone is invited.” The boy went back to tending to his crops when Skeppy kept walking. Now he finally saw it all, so many drawings and statues of the god. He was so pretty.

“Hello ma’am do you need some help?” Skeppy walked towards a petite woman looking into a cookbook.

“Yes, I’m trying to figure out what to bake for the festival tonight. Do you have any ideas?” She asked, flipping through the book. Skeppy went behind her and kept looking with her.

Skeppy remembered something.

“Dream does Bad enjoy anything to eat?” Skeppy asked, he wanted to give something to god.

“Well we don’t really need to eat anything so I don’t imagine anything, but I do know he has tried these new things.” Skeppy looked up, Dream stared back at him with a raised brow.

“New things?” Skeppy asked.

“Muffins I believe, blueberry to be specific. The humans made it for his festival and he tried one, saying they were the best thing to exist.” Dream rolled his eyes and let out a small chuckle.

“I’ll remember that,” Skeppy smiled as he looked down.
“Blueberry muffins.”

“Sir?” The lady tapped him on his shoulder.

“I heard from others that he loves blueberry muffins.” He saw the lady light up, it made him feel happy.

“Of course, I made them one year and it has been a town favorite ever since. I didn’t think the god himself liked them though.” Skeppy nodded. He realized he wasn’t that good at communicating with others he didn’t know.

“He loves them I’m sure,” Skeppy waved goodbye as he started to walk around once again.

The town seemed to be very lively despite the festival being about the night, the moon. Perhaps at night they would be much calmer. That’s what Skeppy really wanted to see. Even if he controlled the biggest star seeing so many tiny ones light up a dark sky would be magical.

“Hello.” Skeppy turned around a young man with brunette hair and the most beautiful eyes he’s ever seen was standing in front of him.

“Hello good sir.” The man blushed, was he really this easily flustered?

“Oh no need to be so formal,” They both laughed. “You look very familiar.” He said, Skeppy couldn’t say the same even if he tried. It was his voice. Skeppy had heard that voice before, Bad would talk to Dream and he would overhear, not eavesdrop, he would never,

“Your voice reminds me of someone as well.” Skeppy said, he had a smirk planted on his face.

“Who?” He asked.

“Who do I remind you of, I mean you did kinda start this.” The man would sigh.

“The sun god, you look almost exactly like him.” Skeppy blushed.

“I get that a lot,” After all why not, why shouldn’t he be able to raise his ego a bit?

“Who does my voice remind you of?” The man asked, and Skeppy didn’t know how to answer. How does one say that their voice reminds them of a god no one has heard speak?

“Just a friend I know,” Skeppy looked up, the brunette almost seemed dissatisfied with the answer. Was he hoping to say the god himself? “Are you from here?”

“No, I'm from far away, but I needed to see some family.” Skeppy nodded.

“What is your name?” Skeppy realized he hasn’t asked one person here their name yet, how embarrassing.

“I wouldn’t like to reveal that if it’s okay with you?” Skeppy smiled and so did the man.

“Well I should get going, will I see you at the festival?” Skeppy asked, walking closer to him.

“Perhaps, but probably not. I'm leaving tonight and it’s a far way to get home,” The man grabbed Skeppy’s hand and kissed it. “I hope to see you again soon though.”

“Of course, the same goes for you.” Skeppy couldn’t help but blush when the man finally left. He seemed oh so familiar but he couldn’t lay his finger on it.

How stupid.

Maybe the guy was the moon and he was just stupid himself.

No.

Possibly.

Hopefully not.
