Beautiful

Work Text:

Thunder struck loudly and she jerk awoke from her deep sleep. Her eyes slowly lifted open to the dark room with only little moonlight coming from the slits of the curtain, the light hitting the wall of cream in front of her. Heavy shower of rain could be heard from outside; the thunder was scary but the rain was somewhat soothing for her. Her hand reached out on the bed to touch a warm person who had been sleeping beside her few hours ago. To her dismay, nobody was there, but the bed still felt a little bit warm, indicating that he had just left.

Raven abruptly sat up on her bed and started to look for him. Her body turned to the right and there he was, sitting on the space near the window that had rainwaters running down joining each droplet to form a bigger droplet. A breath of relief escaped her nostrils as she watched him from the bed. The back of his head rested upon the wall beside him with his eyes closed, he was indeed, sleeping in that sitting position; his left leg stretched out while his right leg folded up to his chest where he put his right arm. He looked very peaceful despite the thunderstorm happening right outside the window he was sitting next to.

She lifted the comforter off her body and let herself down. Her feet touched the cold floor, it didn’t matter to her. She wanted to go to him. Her steps toward him were quiet but determined. As she stood in front of him, she took in how beautiful he looked right then. True, his face had flaws; crooked nose, a scar next to his eyebrow. But that was what made him perfect in her eyes. He looked beautiful. His lock of white hair fell on top his forehead, slightly poking his left eye.

Raven moved to swipe the hair from his forehead so that his eye won’t be poked anymore. She was careful not to wake him up by only touching his hair. Then, she was met with a pair of bright green eyes, her eyes widened with surprise.

“Oh, sorry—” she pulled her hand away but was quickly caught by him.

Her wrist was held by him as he pulled her a little toward him, “What were you doing?”

“Nothing, I was just watching your sleepy face,” a blush appeared on her cheeks as she crossed her ankles in her footing.

“Heh,” he calmly smiled while maneuvering her hand so that his cheek touched the palm of her hand. “That’s creepy,”

“It is not!” Raven exclaimed, her blush getting furious by the second. Especially since he was resting his face in her hand.

He chuckled, gently amused by her reaction, “Why were you up? Did you hear the thunder and got scared?”

“I did wake up because of that… but I wasn’t scared,” her voice was tiny as she looked away from him.

“Hmm,” he stretched his right leg out and pulled her to sit on his laps, “But you were looking for me, right? That’s why you got off the bed,”

She couldn’t deny him, “Why aren’t you sleeping in the bed?” Instead, she changed the topic.

He smiled, he knew she was looking for him, his arms wrapped around her waist as he leaned forward into her neck, smelling her sweet scent, “I was in my thoughts, and also, I like watching the rain, it soothes me,”

Raven leaned into him, her hand tugged on his shirt, “It worried me, when I noticed the bed was empty,”

“Mm,” his lips softly kissing her the skin behind her ear, urging her to go on.

“I was scared you were going to disappear again,” her left hand moved to link with his hand in her lap.

He tightened the hold around her hand, not saying anything, letting the silence of the room and the sound of the thunderstorm mixing together. Raven turned her face to him, “Jason,”

“Yes, Raven?”

“I love you,” she left a gentle kiss on his lips.

Jason grinned, leaning into her to capture her lips, kissing her softly, and when they broke the kiss to breathe, he whispered, “I love you too, Raven.”

When did it start?

Since when?

When did he start feeling like this?

Full,

Contented,

Loved,

Worthy.

He looked down at his sleeping girl in his arms. She had fallen asleep few minutes they were cuddling by the window. He had told her to go back to bed, but she refused to. And now she was sleeping on his chest, her arms hugging his waist. It was a bit uncomfortable for him, but he let it be for a while. He still wanted to watch the rain. And watching it while being hugged by someone didn’t feel that bad.

When exactly?

He remembered the time he didn’t want to continue living. He felt worthless, unloved and did not deserve to feel an ounce of happiness at all. He wanted to die. And died he got. But he was then brought back to life by a selfish man. How much regret he felt as he was brought back to life.

When did she start to be special in his life?

His right hand brushed her hair with his calloused slim fingers and she leaned more into him, a sigh of contented feeling was heard. His heart felt tight. His lips touched the top of her head and he took a deep breath in while hugging her tighter. His love for her. He loved her so much he started seeing light in his life. He kissed her head and closed his eyes. And he remembered the first time he met her.

Jason was sitting on the rooftop of the Titan’s Tower. His appearance had surprised the whole bat family when he first appeared in front of Raven who was coming up to the rooftop to meditate. He actually didn’t know where else to head to after coming back alive and somehow, he was at the top of the building where his adopted older brother was living at. Maybe somewhere deep inside him actually acknowledged him as someone he could depend on, though, he would never admit that out loud. At least not to Dick.

At the time Raven didn’t know about his existence. When she was recruited for the team, he had already been dead. Her face was stoic and emotionless as she stared at him with curiosity. Her first words to him were;

“Who the fuck are you?”

He chuckled a bit remembering her harsh words toward him and that made her stir in her sleep. He was quick to soothe her back to sleep by combing her soft black hair. Canoodling her like a baby. She was so small. And he wasn’t even that big, he hadn’t been working out like crazy since he was brought back to life. His body now was just a normal size of a normal citizen that he could find anywhere in the city. Slim fit, tall, but he still got a little bit of muscles in some parts of his body.

Going back to reminiscing; he just started loitering around in the tower. He didn’t really want to go back to Bruce for he still resented him for not killing his murderer. Although being with Dick wasn’t that good of a company, leeching off him sounded fun enough for him to stay around. But the dark girl floating in front of him irked his interest at the moment. He’d never seen her before, never even heard of her. He’d found out about Titans from the daily news on the televisions in the store when he walked past the electronic shop on the third street. But this particular girl was never mentioned. Only the other four stood out.

His train of thoughts stopped when Raven suddenly lifted her upper body from him, her pale hands rubbing the sleepiness from her eyes as she pouted. Raven pouts. He thought, as he leaned back more into the walls behind him and continued watching his very adorable beloved.

“What’s wrong, little bird?” His tone soft as the nickname he found for her fell off his tongue. He liked that he got to see this side of Raven that he knew, she never showed to anyone else beside him. Not even her leader, whom he found out had a bond with her because she’d been inside his mind. He knew that Raven and her brother had a special relationship that he couldn’t figure it out. But Raven chose him. He had nothing to worry about.

“Your mind is too chatty,” Raven huffed as she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his knees, her head resting on her left arm. She looked into his eyes with her own mesmerizing set of violets, “What are you thinking?”

“Just thinking of our first encounter,” he grinned while leaning forward, their faces were only a breath away, “You said fuck to me,”

Her eyebrows frowned, “Well, you were a total stranger to me back then,”

His vibration of his breathless chuckle sour through her, and he touched her forehead with his, his eyes closed, “I’m so glad I met you, Raven,”

He felt her soft lips on his and took no time in kissing her back, his hand moved into her locks of hair as he nudged her lips open, chasing her kiss by kiss until they were breathless. Raven had already locked her arms around his neck, her legs straddling him as they both stared into each other.

Make love to me, Jason,”

The next morning, he was woken up by the sound of the doorbell. Who’d come at this early in the morning? He thought as he slipped out from the bed, grabbing his sweatpants and his hoodie from the floor. He glanced at his sleeping beauty in the bed, still naked from their sweaty activity last night. The comforter had fell to her waist and he could see the outline of her breasts from the side since she was sleeping on her front.

He walked to the bed and lifted the comforter up, keeping her warm. Pressing a chaste kiss on her head, he went to answer the door, not even bothering to check who was the person who’d been pressing his doorbell like a crazy person. He actually had an idea who, but he didn’t want it to come true.

As the door opened, he was met with piercing blue eyes he’d known since he was in his teens. Dick had an impatient look on his face with his hands on his waist.

“Where’s Raven?”

Jason looked at his brother with an annoyed expression as he huffed a breath. Moving aside to let his brother in, he said with a low tone, “Keep your voice down, she’s still asleep,”

Dick simply nodded his head in understanding since, it was, merely 7 a.m. He sat down on the couch in the living room and turned his head to Jason, “Sorry for coming without notice,”

Jason shrugged his shoulders and entered his kitchen, turning on the coffee machine, “Coffee?”

“Sure,” Dick came to sit at the small dining table that only consist of two chairs. He watched Jason inserting the coffee beans into the hole of the machine. “How are you?”

It was an awkward question.

Jason glanced his way with a frown, “Didn’t know you cared,”

Dick clicked his tongue, “You’re my brother, of course I care,” he may have not shown it but Jason’s death had affected him greatly. He couldn’t sleep for months because his brain would be thinking of plans to seek revenge for him. If only he actually had the guts to disobey Batman, he would’ve done it.

“Mm, not sure how I want to answer your question,” Jason mused, pressing the button on the machine and the scent of the brewed coffee appeared quickly. Jason suddenly smiled, the kind of a soft smile like he was thinking of something or someone. “But Raven makes everything better,”

The kitchen was quiet after Jason said that. Neither tried to say a word, nor even look at each other. Jason continued preparing the coffee while Dick was in thoughts. But, both of them wouldn’t deny that the quietness wasn’t actually an awkward silence.

Suddenly, a deep feminine voice that both men recognized and were fond of broke the silence.

“Jason, why are you up so early? You barely had any sleep last night—” her words stopped when she met her leader’s gaze on her. His gaze then went lower and blush flamed her cheeks. She had only been wearing Jason’s t-shirt that was on the floor when she decided to look for Jason. Lord, why did she keep looking for him? It was like if she didn’t see him for a moment, she’d lose it.

“Dick, what are you doing here?”

“Coffee, babe?”

Both of them said at the same time, causing Jason to chuckle and set down a mug of hot long black in front of Dick who could not take his eyes off Raven. He purposely put it down with a bit of force, hoping it’d alert Dick to stop staring at his girlfriend. Thankfully Dick did what he hoped for, clearing his throat along the way before grabbing the mug and took a careful sip.

Meanwhile, Jason headed toward Raven, standing in front of her, “Alright Little Bird, as much as I love to see you wearing my shirt, I’d prefer for it to not be seen by other men,” he whispered, swiping a lock of hair from her face.

“You should’ve woken me up,” she whispered back, crossing her arms over her chest. “What is he doing here anyway?”

Her head tilted to the side a bit to glance at Dick who was obviously uncomfortable with the current situation.

Jason shrugged, “I don’t know, he wanted to see you,”

A voice broke their trance of whisper, making them turn to look at the source of the disruption, “As much as I want to pretend I didn’t just hear you guys, I did, and Raven, I need to talk with you about your upcoming mission. So please, go dress up appropriately,”

Raven noticed the slight shift of Jason’s emotions at the mention of a mission. She knew he’d been sensitive with vigilantes’ works after he died. And he certainly did not like it when she had to go on a mission. Although she already reminded him many times that she was a half demon, hence the probability of her being dead was very small.

“Okay,” Raven said. And when Dick turned back to drinking his coffee again, she grabbed Jason’s sweatshirt around the neck, kissing him on the cheek, “Don’t worry about me, Jason,” she whispered.

“I won’t die and leave you alone,”

Jason sighed, putting his forehead on hers, “I really hope you won’t,”
