Feels Like Home

Summary:

Prequel to We Always Do.

Shirabu meets Semi’s parents.

Notes:

We Always Do is definitely needed to read this I think. There’s just some things that were too much to put in here to make it flow properly, like background on Shirabu’s parents. It just didn’t flow right.

Also while this is the prequel and the other one is required reading, I’m still putting this as the first fic in the series because it’s chronologically the first one.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Shiratorizawa has training camps, but there’s still a span of a little over two weeks that Kenjirou has free in the the middle of summer break. Most of the guys on his team go home. Kenjirou would rather not do that. Instead, Eita invites him to stay with him, suggesting he finally meet his family. Kenjirou and Eita have only been courting since March and Kenjirou has never courted someone, so he’s not sure if this is too soon.

Eita meets him at the train station, immediately embracing him in a hug.

“I missed you,” Eita mutters into Kenjirou’s shoulder. He makes sure to scent Kenjirou.

“I guess I did too,” Kenjirou replies, wrapping his arms around Eita.

“Brat.”

Kenjirou smirks where Eita can’t see him.

They’ve seen each other almost every weekend since Eita’s graduation and they Skype at least once a week, but they haven’t spent an extensive amount of time together since Eita’s been in high school. They used to see each other every day—not that they always appreciated it—and now they barely see one another.

Eita takes Kenjirou’s duffle bag from him, not that Kenjirou can’t carry it; Eita just wants to show off what a good alpha he is. They head off to Eita’s apartment hand and hand. Kenjirou feels his cheeks burn. He’s still not used to public displays of attention like this. They make idle chat on the way there.

“I was thinking we could head over to my parents tomorrow,” Eita says. “They’re dying to meet you.”

Kenjirou can’t deny that he’s nervous. He cares about Eita a lot. They haven’t exchanged “I love you” yet, but Kenjirou is sure that he feels that way about Eita. He wants to make a good impression to Eita’s parents.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to meeting them too,” Kenjirou replies.

“You okay?”

They’re just outside Eita’s door now. Eita turns toward Kenjirou, taking his other hand into his own and giving both of them a squeeze.

“I’m fine,” Kenjirou insists.

“You know you can talk to me, right?” Eita asks.

“Of course I do.”

Eita nods. He digs into his pocket to pull out his keys and unlocks the door. They step inside, taking off their shoes.

Eita’s apartment isn’t the nicest of accommodations, but it’s cozy and feels like home to Kenjirou. Eita works hard at his government job to pay for it as he goes to school for music. Eita’s family signed for the lease, but they’re just a normal middle-class family—he did go to Shiratorizawa on scholarship—so Eita’s on his own paying.

They head to the bedroom, Kenjirou plopping down backwards on the bed. Eita places Kenjirou’s bag down in a chair in the corner of the room before joining him. He crawls toward the middle, hovering over Kenjirou. He roughly kisses him and Kenjirou wraps his arms around Eita’s neck.

“I miss doing this all the time,” Kenjirou admits in a moment of rare sincerity. He buries his face into the crook of Eita’s neck.

“Me too.”

They leave fairly early the next morning. Eita’s parents place isn’t too far away from his apartment, only a short train ride. Kenjirou grips Eita’s hand the whole time, cheeks flushed. Eita chuckles at him and Kenjirou shoots him a glare.

When they get there, Eita lets himself in, calling, “I’m home.”

“Welcome home,” Eita’s mom says as she greets them at the door. She offers her hand to Kenjirou. “I’m Rieko. So you’re the Kenjirou-kun I’ve heard all about.”

“Nice to meet you, Semi-san,” Kenjirou replies. He feels his face burn at the idea of Eita telling his family all about him.

“Did he finally bring him?” A girl a little younger than Eita comes barreling around the corner. She looks almost just like Eita.

“That’s Kana,” Eita groans, “My sister.”

Kana sticks her tongue out at Eita and he returns the gesture.

“Well, come in,” Rieko ushers them inside, out of the entryway, “Haruto is making tea.”

The four of them settle down into the living room. Kenjirou and Eita sit on one couch while Rieko and Kana sit opposite. A man comes in carrying a tray with five teacups.

“So you’re Kenjirou-kun!” He says as he places the tray down on the coffee table, “I’m Haruto. Eita’s told us all about you.”

They get to know each other. Eventually Kana gets bored and heads up to her room. Kenjirou likes Eita’s family though. They’re nice people and he finds his mind wandering where it shouldn’t: he’d like to be part of this family.

“You know Eita wants to be a rock star, right?” Haruto asks.

It’s an odd question, but of course Kenjirou knows that. He knows a lot about Eita. He’s known him for almost three years.

“Yes, I do,” Kenjirou answers, still trying to be polite.

“Has he shown you his old YouTube videos?” Rieko questions.

Eita’s jaw drops. “Don’t show him those!”

“They’re cute, honey!”

They’re cringey. Eita can’t keep a tune; his key is off and he has bad rhythm. Kenjirou can’t help it. He laughs. He laughs a lot. Eita is horrified.

“Oh and let’s show you the baby pictures!” Rieko says, going to get a photo album. She opens it up, pointing out each one. “Here’s Eita with his first guitar. And here he is at his first volleyball game. He was so little!”

“You were cute.” Kenjirou smirks deviously.

“Were?!” Eita exclaims.

Rieko and Haruto continue to bring out the old photos and videos and Kenjirou feels at home with them, something he’s never felt before.

“Are you sure you still want to court me after that?” Eita asks when they’re curled up on the couch back at his apartment.

Kenjirou keeps a straight face as he says, “No.”

Eita’s jaw drops once again.

“I’m messing with you, relax. Your family feels like home. It made me like you more.”

“What?”

“Yeah,” Kenjirou answers.

Eita is in awe. “I’m sure you did cringey things as a kid too. I’d love to see those.”

“My parents never cared enough to document that.”

Eita frowns. He takes Kenjirou’s hand in his own, kissing his knuckles. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not a big deal.”

“It kind of is. I wish your parents were better.”

“They’re not,” Kenjirou deadpans.

“This is a weird time to say this, but I love you,” Eita says.

“What?” Kenjirou turns to Eita.

“Yeah, I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“And I think my parents adore you. I want you to be apart of my family one day. I know we haven’t been courting that long, but it feels like we’ve been together a long time, you know, with all the fucking.”

“We’ve done a lot of fucking,” Kenjirou agrees.

“We have. So it feels like we’ve been together a long time,” Eita continues, “We know each other better than anyone else in the pack. It doesn’t have to be right now of course.”

“Yeah, I’d like to think on it.”

“We have plenty of time. I know you want to go to med school and you’re not planning on going off suppressants just yet, so we can’t mate until then.”

“Yeah,” Kenjirou trails off.

“I love you though and I want to be in it for the long haul.”

“Me too.”

“We’ll figure it out in the long run though.”

“We always do.”

Notes:

I missed writing them. They’re my favorite ship. (Kogagoshi and Ushiten come close but Semishira has my heart.)
