Chapter Text

Bokuto is in a hurry. He was fired last week for doing something stupid while drunk, again. Surprisingly, the male was really good at landing jobs, but it was always keeping the job that was the issue. So now here he was, rushing to the next job he had gotten from a close friend, hoping he would make it on time so that he wouldn’t get fired for the 8th time that month.

Dashing through the streets, Bokuto finally makes it to the door of the building. He hasn’t worked at a place this fancy before. They have revolving doors! Bokuto would have fun running through those. But now, he was fixing up the one suit he had stowed in his closet, checked if his pants were zipped up, and walked in proudly.

He was right on time.

Kuroo waves to him from the front desk. “You made it!” He says, smiling.

Bokuto smiles at him, high fiving his hand. “You bet! Who do you think I am? I never slack.”

“Yeah yeah. Says the one who texted me this morning that they forgot the first day was today.” Kuroo teases. “And it’s good you made it here. There’s a really important person coming today.”

“Really? Who? Some really good player or something?” Bokuto asks, reaching for a water bottle that was on the counter.

“The best in Japan actually. He’s holding a concert here today.” Kuroo explains.

“Oh. Sounds cool.” Bokuto proceeds to chug the water, but then he remembers, “Wait a minute, was I supposed to again?”

Kuroo sighs and shakes his head. “You’re supposed to help clean up the auditorium after.”

Bokuto sighs. “Then why did you have me wake up this early?”

Kuroo looks at him with sly eyes, “C’mon Bo, you should come out sometime and listen to music with us.”

“You mean you, Tsukki and Daichi?” Bokuto says, crushing the now empty bottle. “No thanks. Classical music is boring in my opinion.” he states. “I’ve always wondered why you guys were so obsessed with it.”

“Because it’s good. It’s not boring.” Kuroo pouts at his friend. “You just gotta listen first. Who knows, maybe you will like it.”

“Yeah I doubt it.” Bokuto rolls his eyes.

It began to get a little loud outside of the building. Bokuto could see lights from flashing cameras through the windows, reporters yelling.

“He’s here.” Kuroo says, straightening up his posture.

“Is he really that big of a deal?” Bokuto says, eyeing the reporters all tackling each other.

“Like I said. He’s one of the best in Japan.” He says, standing with his hands on his hips now. “He’s really good.”

Bokuto watched as the male walked into the building. His hair, neatly combed and placed on his head, it was sort of disheveled, yet formal in some way. He’s dressed in a button up, a sweater vest over it, his dress shoes clacking on the ground. The male sighs with a huff, now looking straight at the two at the fornt desk. As he comes closer, Bokuto can finally see the details of his face.

He was cute. As he walks up to the two, he fixes his glasses and clears his throat. “Sorry, am I on time?” He says. Bokuto thought his voice was cute too.

Kuroo nods. “Good to see you again, Akaashi.”

‘Akaashi’ Bokuto thinks. The name rolls off of the tongue well.

“Nice to see you again as well Kuroo. Who’s this?” Akaashi turns to Bokuto.

That’s when Bokuto noticed his eyes, and damn, did Bokuto love his eyes. They were such a pristine color of blue, it was like they were sparkling.

“H-hi!” Bokuto blurts out. “I’m Bokuto Koutarou! What’s your name?” Bokuto holds his hand out for Akaashi. The male smiles warmly, taking it.

“Akaashi Keiji. Do you work here with Kuroo now?” Bokuto nods at the male, a big smile on his face.

“Yup! It’s my first day!” Bokuto exclaims.

Akaashi wasn’t surprised at how loud Bokuto was. He seemed like a rather excited character at first glance to Akaashi. “Do you like classical music then?”

“I-” Bokuto wasn’t sure what to say.

He didn’t like classical music. He actually hated it in fact. But was he really about to tell this attractive piece of man that he basically hated his occupation? No. Though he knew lying would be bad, since everyone told him that he shouldn’t lie because it’s rude.

In his defense, he wasn’t thinking about it at the time. “I love classical music!” He says, his hands raising in the air. “I’m really excited to hear you play today.” There’s a small blush on his cheeks.

Akaashi smiles at him. “Well, I’m happy that you’ll be able to hear me play today.” He bows and waves as he makes his way into the auditorium.

“Wow.” Bokuto says quietly. Kuroo nudges his arm.

“You love classical music huh?” Kuroo says. “Where did that come from?”

Bokuto sighs. “I know I know. I’m sorry. I panicked! He’s so pretty, why didn’t you tell me before?”

“Really Bo?” Kuroo says. “That’s why you lied to him?”

“Oh c’mon.” Bokuto crosses his arms. “You can’t deny that he is. Or were you just thinking about Kenma the whole time.”

Kuroo hits Bokuto’s arm, making him yell. “Ow!”

“Shut up!” Kuroo yells.

“What? Kenma now answer your texts again?” The male asks, rubbing his arm.

“Yeah. I think he’s mad cause I called one of his games a little boring. He didn’t answer my call this morning either, but his mom texted me to let me know he was okay.” Kuroo explains.

“It’s funny how they know you freak out about his well being a lot.”

“Well I have to care about my boyfriend and his well being right?” Kuroo says.

“Yeah yeah whatever. I need a boyfriend.” Bokuto says.

“Well if you really get closer to Akaashi, maybe it’ll work out.” Kuroo says. “Though, Akaashi is quite timid. I’m not sure how well he’d handle your personality.” He laughs, making Bokuto shake his head.

“Shut up. Aren’t you supposed to be in there now?” He says, walking away.

“Yeah yeah okay.” Kuroo walks into the auditorium, Bokuto following him quickly after.

The place was already relatively crowded, most of the seats in the front already taken up by listeners. Bokuto wasn’t aware that this many people listened to classical music, considering how boring it was.

He sits in the row in front of Kuroo, since he had to sit with the fancy piano men to watch.

Bokuto took note of the room. It wasn’t quiet like he thought it would be. He could hear low chatter between people around him, though it wasn’t loud like some rock concert either. He huffs and takes out his phone to mindlessly scroll through Instagram. He looks up Akaashi’s name and his page pops up.

His eyes skim through his posts. Surprisingly, the male posts a lot, and it wasn’t even always about piano. There were photos of him with friends, and photos he took on walks or trips to the beach. Bokuto liked shirtless Akaashi, he had to admit, but he swiped away before anyone could catch him staring at the post.

Quickly after, the curtain rises revealing Akaashi in a nice suit, bowing to begin playing. Bokuto joins the audience in clapping for him as the male sits down at the piano bench.

He begins to play.

And Bokuto almost loses it.

Don’t misunderstand, he still finds piano music crazily boring, but there was no doubt that Akaashi was an amazing player. He looks around, watching other listeners’ jaws drop at the sound Akaashi creates. Bokuto is mesmerized at the way Akaashi’s hands move across the keys, I mean, how could he do it that fast? It was insane.

And Bokuto is still gawking at the male even as he is walking off the stage, him sending a small smile towards Bokuto as he spots him from the stage.

At the end, Kuroo meets up with Bokuto, helping him clean up the auditorium.

“So?” He asks his white haired friend, a smirk on his face, “What did you think?”

Bokuto looks back at him with serious eyes. He takes a deep breath before responding.

“It was the coolest thing I’ve seen.”
