Summary:

Every weekend morning, Yeji would always sit on the swinging bench outside their house and enjoy the view alone. One morning, it was different when Chaeryeong decided to join her.

Work Text:

It was a cold weekend morning. Yeji sat on the swinging bench outside their house the first thing in the morning. She closed her eyes and took deep breaths as she inhaled the cold yet refreshing air of the mountains.

She takes in the view the moment she opens her eyes. Nothing but the clear blue sky and the mountains up high can be seen all around the radius of their house.

Yeji found the scenery very pleasant, but her day job prevents her from enjoying it during the weekdays. With that, she made sure that the first thing every weekend morning, she would go to the balcony and enjoy the view regardless of the weather.

With Yeji's sleepiness taking over, she closes her eyes once again falling into a light sleep, until she is awakened with the smell of morning coffee and the sound of someone's sigh. She also felt the bench swing a little (it is a swinging bench after all)

Her face lightened up when she found out who was sitting next to her.

"Good morning! You seem to have fallen asleep there."

It was Chaeryeong. Her sunshine. Drinking coffee as the sun shines on her face. Yeji couldn't help but stare.

"How long have I been asleep for?" Yeji asks as she stretches her arms and rubs the sleepiness off her eyes.

"Not long, I think. I didn't want to wake you up 'cause you looked so peaceful, but I guess the coffee did."

"Have you been sitting there this whole time?"

"No, I just got here."

Chaeryeong scooted over to Yeji, where she can be close to her lover.

Chaeryeong felt Yeji intertwine her hand on hers and locking their fingers together.

"You wanted some fresh air too?" Yeji asked.

"Well… can you think of any other reason why I'm out here?"

"Hmmm, to see me?"

Yeji said with a smile and softness in her eyes. Chaeryeong tried to hold in her laughter. She succeeded and smiled back at her.

"We see each other every day. I have to at least give you some time of your own."

"Why are you here then if you want to give me some time of my own?" Yeji asks yet again. The question got Chaeryeong to pout.

"Have you gone that dense? It's only been a month. You should at least know why I'm here." She turns away from Yeji as she sips some of her coffee.

Of course, with a softie like Chaeryeong, she didn't mean what she said. But she wanted to test Yeji.

Yeji's smile fades as she sees how Chaeryeong reacted. She looked at their intertwined hands, looking at the wedding ring on Chaeryeong's finger. Yeji leans closer to the latter.

"You know I'm kidding, right?"

"Hmph." Chaeryeong faced away, but Yeji pulled her face close to hers.

She finds her wife smiling at her. Chaeryeong can't help but smile back.

She puts her coffee mug down and pulls Yeji into a soft kiss. Warmth rushed through their bodies. What was once cold bodies have turned warm.

As they pull away from the lack of air, Yeji tightens her grip on Chaeryeong's hand.

"I can't believe I married you." Chaeryeong laughed as she joked.

"I can't believe that you're forever mine now. And I'm forever yours."

"Hahaha! That's cute. I love you, Yeji."

"Hmm. I love you too, Chaeryeong."

Chaeryeong tucked herself into a ball as Yeji pulled her close, and they swung together on the swinging bench.

As they were happily yet quietly swinging, Chaeryeong broke the ice.

"I just realized something. If we put our names together, it's actually a pun related to marriage."

"What do you mean?" Yeji asked.

"Well, put both the last syllables of our first names together, we get 'Ryeongji.' Doesn't it sound like 'yeonji'?"

Yeji's face lit up when she realized it. She nodded.

"And if we put gonji at the end, we get 'Ryeongji gonji.' Ain't that cute?" Chaeryeong added.

Chaeryeong was filled with joy and laughed. Finding out that their names put together meant something.

Yeji fell in love with how Chaeryeong reacts to something she's happy or proud of. Seeing the girl she fell in love with, now the woman she proposed and married to, made her shed a tear.

Chaeryeong noticed that Yeji was teary-eyed, and wiped her tears with her thumb. Yeji kissed the back of her wife's hand and said.

"Gonji. You know you can't have that when you remarry, right?"

"Who says I'm getting remarried? Don't ever think that! Yeji, I fell in love with you, and only you. Whatever happens, I'll always be yours, and you'll always be mine."

"Chaer…"

As Yeji parted her lips to speak what's on her mind, she felt the air getting colder.

"Do you want to head back inside before it gets any colder out here?"

"Maybe just a few more minutes before I finally give you your own time."

Yeji stared into the mountains, contemplating.

"You know what? Spend the day with me. I think my time will be better with you around."

Chaeryeong lays her head on the latter's shoulder.

"If that's what you want, then I'll stay."

Notes:

"Ryeongjigonji", as Chaerji (Chaeryeong and Yeji call themselves) is a pun of "yeonji gonji" with relates to marriage in Korea. Not to mention they were married in their "previous lives."

I hope you enjoyed this oneshot! Thank you!
