Chapter Text
“Guess who I just saaaaaaw!”
Naib can already tell it’s going to be a Day when William, his darling, love of his life roommate, busts open the front door with a singsong at seven in the morning.
He attempts to roll over in bed, pillow over his head, but is immediately thwarted by Will doing the same thing a second time, this time to Naib’s bedroom door.
“Guess! Who I! Just saw! Naib!” William yells, emphasizing each cry with a bounce on Naib’s bed, jostling him so much that Naib contemplates smacking him with his pillow —still wrapped around his ears (it’s not helping.)
“Who?” He groans, barely audible around the pillow.
“Your beautiful angel sent directly from heaven?”
Naib whips the pillow off of his face, revealing his glower to William.
“I have never called him that.”
“Uhuh. I’m certain it was just because you never knew his actual name. Well, guess who learned his name for you, finally!”
Naib sits up since he’s clearly not going to be going back to sleep anytime soon.
William is still in his trackies and sneakers. Naib will have to yell at him later about tracking dirt into the apartment and his bedroom, but for right now, at 7:04 in the morning, all of his energy is spent in trying not to seem as invested as he actually is in the conversation.
“Oh?”
“His name, drumroll please,” William grins. He gets a kick out of torturing Naib, apparently, but Naib loves him so he obligingly pats out a beat on the pillow that has migrated to his lap, “is Ganji!”
Oh.
Naib tries his damndest not to look pleased at now knowing this. He adds it to the —laughably small— mental folder of the hot new neighbor.
Ganji had moved in two months ago, to the apartment directly above theirs. Naib had stormed up there in a fit of anger the second day of his moving in, tired of listening to the thumps and bangs coming through the ceiling, from the sound of moving furniture.
What he hadn’t expected was the annoying new neighbor to answer his pounding knocks in a practically see through tank top, sweaty and disheveled and looking down at Naib with a pleasant —if confused— grin.
Naib had fallen fast and fallen hard. He’d also panicked hard, eyes darting between looking at his neighbors blinding smile or the dark nipples just barely visible through the sweat soaked shirt.
Feeling like the worst sort of fool, he had barely managed to mumble out an extremely rushed “hi-welcome-to-the-neighborhood!” before he’d run off. Not exactly his smoothest moment.
Knowing the man’s name moved him one step closer to working up to an apology for that mess of a first meeting.
Will smiles at him, a good indicator as any that Naib has completely failed to hide his pleased flush. In retaliation he smacks him in the face with the pillow.
“Get out! Out! You wanted to sleep in your own bed last night to let me sleep in and you still wake me up at fucking seven in the morning!” He shouts, smacking Will with the pillow over and over until the other gets the hint and gets up, laughing as he leaves the room, “and close the door!” Naib finishes, tossing the pillow out the open door in the hopes of hitting Will.
“You’re not getting this back,” he says, taking it from the hallway floor, and distinctly not closing Naib’s bedroom door, “get dressed already! I’m making breakfast.”
Naib sighs and flops down on his sad, pillowless bed. He’ll get up in a minute, which will be enough time for William to bitch about him wasting his cooking skills, but not enough for the food to actually get cold.
It’s a well worn routine they hold, smooth around the edges like a worry-stone. Does Naib really want to go and rock the boat, thirsting after some almost complete stranger?
William’s given his blessing a thousand times over already, ever since the man — Ganji, and isn’t that fun? To put a name to such a gorgeous face— moved in. It isn’t about Will though.
Well, it is. Kind of. It’s more about the way they’ve settled into their routine like this; Naib slipping on sweats to meander out into the kitchen, coming up behind Will as he fries up turkey bacon to give him a kiss on the cheek and bitch about the stubble he hasn’t shaved yet, while Will bitches about his morning breath.
It’s about William staying up late to help Naib ice his knuckles after a fight in the ring, about Naib learning to be less of a light sleeper because William is a morning person, about their shoes in the rack Will insisted they buy and their coats in the closet.
It’s about the nagging thought that worries Naib as he takes a sip of his coffee: would Ganji even fit in the little niche they’ve carved out for themselves?
He wants to find out.
