Izuku sobbed into his mothers arms. He sobbed as his dreams broke in front of him, shattered by a single sentence spoken by the man whom, not hours ago, he would have called his hero. ” I do not think you can be a hero.” .
He wailed, over the loss of his dream, over the loss of his friends, over the loss of his mother’s faith. And he cried for the absence of a quirk. For the first time in his six years spent quirkless, he felt the need of a quirk. A need that he had not felt when his friends abandoned him, that he had not felt at the doctor’s, a need that he did not feel when his mother apologized.
And something responded. A pull he felt, which pulled until he felt a warmth settle inside him and his mother fell before him, unconscious.
He would follow her to a hospital that day, and, not hours later, he would be given word of his mothers passing. He would sit in shock, not comprehending all that had passed. He would meet his father for the first time in his eleven years of life. Hisashi Midoriya would come and hug him, and Izuku would cry. Not the wails of those in anguish or despair, but the silent tears of those who feel the loss of that which is most important in their lives .
And Hisashi Midoriya, as he hugged his crying child, would feel his wife’s quirk inside his son. He would smile, and the world would never be the same.
