“Are you sure you’re willing to do this for us?” Mum asked, wringing her hands together a bit.
“Of course,” Harry said. “You know I’d do anything for your family. I’m just glad you’re willing to let me help.”
That was the crux of the matter, wasn’t it, Ginny thought. Harry was helpful to a fault, even when it meant buying a literal, actual person from his best friend’s family because they were too proud to just accept charity, but apparently not too proud to sell off their only daughter. The worst part was that Ginny couldn’t even say she was that upset about things. After all, who would complain about getting to spend more time with Harry Potter.
“Well, uh, we should be heading out,” Harry said. “We’ve still got a lot to do in Grimmauld Place before heading off to Hogwarts tomorrow.”
Ginny raised an eyebrow and took a step towards Harry, away from her Mother’s side. Before she could get very far, her mother grabbed her in a tight, slightly weepy hug. Ginny sighed and wrapped her arms around her, reluctantly returning the hug. It was hard to feel much sympathy for someone who had just straight up sold you to another person.
“I think Harry wants to go now,” Ginny said.
This was, thankfully, enough to get her mother to release her from the hug.
“So how are we getting out of here?” Ginny asked. “Are you going to apparate us?”
“Yeah, apparition’s the best way to get there,” Harry said.
Ginny nodded, pulled out her wand, then apparated herself to Grimmauld Place. She was in on the secret of its location thanks to all her time spent there fourth year and she’d just turned seventeen about a week ago, so she was all set to use her magic on her own. Somehow, though, her parents were still able to sell her. She didn’t quite get how it had worked— just that it had happened and now she belonged to Harry. Madness.
She had landed in the kitchen, so she looked around, interested to see how bad things were. Helping out with cooking and cleaning had to be the main reason he’d bought her since he was a teenaged boy. Except when she looked around, everything looked fine.
Harry appeared in the kitchen behind her with a pop. He looked even more nervous now than he had when talking with her mum.
“You said we had a lot to do here?” Ginny asked, getting straight to the point.
Harry scratched at the back of his neck. “That may not have been entirely truthful. Kreacher!”
Kreacher appeared in the kitchen between them, looking well kempt and happy. Ginny narrowed her eyes and looked between Kreacher and Harry.
“You didn’t need to buy me at all,” she said.
“Master Harry has his own blood traitor?” Kreacher asked, beginning to clap.
“No!” Harry exclaimed. “And stop clapping!”
Kreacher clapped one more time, a wide smirk sitting proud on his face.
“Legally speaking,” Ginny said, “he’s right.”
Harry groaned and buried his face in his hands. “Why can’t your family accept charity like normal people?” he asked, his voice muffled from the force of his hands.
“You seem distressed, does human ownership not agree with you?” Ginny asked. “From a medical standpoint, of course,” she added.
Harry shook his head with his hands still pressed to his face. Then he turned towards the door, and started to walk out. “I’m going to go die now. Do whatever.”
Ginny smirked and decided that maybe being owned by Harry Potter really would work out for her.
