Chapter Text
Morro had officially hit rock bottom.
He’s done mess after mess up, but this one took the cake. He let anger and frustration get the best of him and now everyone was either too scared or too ashamed to be near him. Nobody could look him in the eye. Not even the one person he thought he could rely on.
They all wanted him gone.
Morro felt like he never belonged on Jago living on the streets, and he now knew for sure he didn’t belong in the Departed Realm.
He sat on the edge of the building and looked over at the city.
I guess it’s never too late to throw myself into the ocean.
He might as well disappear forever. There was nowhere for him to go. He looked up at the dull sky. He had nothing. He could only pray that he could somehow find a way out of here.
And that’s when he saw it. The small circle of light forming above him. It grew bigger and bigger until it was large enough for Morro to go through. At first, he didn’t know what it was, but he remembered Martin telling him about these things. It was a portal. Someone was trying to summon him.
And the portal was where he was. Somebody wanted Morro and Morro only. It was hard to believe.
Looking back at the Departed Realm, Morro decided he had nothing else to lose. He shut his eyes and floated up.
It was a new beginning.
--------
Morro was pulled through, a rush of cool air surrounding him. He was blinded for a moment by a light green light, but it disappeared within seconds. He was hovering above the ground in a dark room. He blinked once or twice so his eyes could adjust to the area.
The first thing Morro saw were the eyes staring at him with bewilderment and confusion. He almost jumped back before seeing the group of people.
Teenagers, Morro discovered. What did a group of teenagers want with Morro? How did they even know who he was? He held his breath.
“Uh… M-morro?” a kid with blond hair asked. He was shaking.
“That’s Morro?” someone behind him said. “I honestly thought he’d be taller.”
Morro scoffed. He doesn’t even know who these people are and they’re already insulting him. He didn’t need sass from a dickwad in red pajamas. Besides, they were probably just summoning Morro for laughs. It was a huge sleepover, considering they were all wearing pajamas.
Just a stupid sleepover in a living room. With the couch to the side and the wood floorboards. The… oddly familiar living room.
“Do you need anything, or can I go?” Morro snapped. The seven teens flinched.
A girl in gray pajamas scrunched her nose. “Yeesh. I didn’t expect the Master of Wind to be so rude.”
Morro raised an eyebrow. “How do you know I-”
Wait.
Those weren’t pajamas. They were wearing gi.
He knew this living room. He used to live here.
And there was someone else in the back of the room with a ridiculous beard and an even more ridiculous hat.
“Oh no,” Morro mumbled. “No. No. No.”
“Is he okay?” someone in blue asked.
Morro looked at him in the eye. “You. Tell me where I am.”
“I- a monastery?”
Oh no.
Master Wu stepped forward and looked the ghost in the eye. “Morro. Welcome home.”
Morro sneered. “You never know when to quit, do you old man?” Wu didn’t respond. He only looked down in shame.
“Morro?” the one in green asked. “We’ve, uh, been looking for you for a while and-”
“Why am I here?”
“Huh?”
“You specifically summoned me to this specific place. You want something from me. What?”
“Seven kids standing around together say they were looking for you and you don’t know why you’re here,” the one in red remarked. “Care to figure it out yourself?”
Morro glared down. “No. I don’t think I will.”
“Master Morro,” one in white greeted. Strange, Morro thought. No one ever called him Master before. This guy was probably a tool. “My name is Za-”
“I don’t care.”
Za- cleared his throat. “Very well. We brought you here because we need your help. Jago is facing a threat called the Sons of Garmadon, but if we want to stop them and restore balance we need the Main Eight Masters. You were our missing piece.”
“Wow. Poetic,” Morro said sarcastically.
Of course this had to do something with the Masters. His abilities were the only thing that made him relevant. Wu always used to go on these rants about the importance of teamwork and how powerful the eight would be together and yadda yadda yadda. Morro used to want to find them once upon a time. He would scribble on sticks and say it was a map leading to their whereabouts. But now he knew it was better to work alone. He didn’t need to rely on anyone else, let alone seven other people.
“So are you going to help?” a girl in orange asked.
Did he want to? No. But he had nowhere else to go. He’d probably get thrown into the ocean if he went back to the Departed Realm. This was the only place he could be. It killed him inside.
Morro sighed. “I’m only doing this because I have to,” he groaned. He flew off, going through the walls. He thought he heard someone call him “edgy” or something insulting, but he decided to let it go. This was going to be annoying. And tiring.
Going through the door, Morro went straight to the bed and laid down. He eyed the posters and dirty clothes all over the floor and groaned. Of course Wu would’ve given up his old room to some disgusting slob.
Maybe it wasn’t too late to back out. He could just throw himself in a lake, maybe even the ocean once he gets back to the Departed Realm. Who knows? The night’s still young.
“... just worried,” he heard someone say from the hall.
“Don’t be,” someone with a deeper voice replied. “I’m sure he’ll come through.”
“You’re right. Thanks, Cole.” The door opened and the boy with blue gi walked in. He softly closed the door and smiled.
“Who’s Cole?” Morro asked.
The boy shrieked and nearly slipped. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM?”
“Your room? Last time I checked, this was my room.”
“B-but all my stuff is here!”
“Even that underwear on the nightstand?”
The boy’s face flushed red. “That’s not mine.”
“They’re blue.”
The boy looked down at his blue uniform and then back at the nightstand. “Right.”
“So if we’re done here, I’d appreciate it if you left my room so I can start cleaning up. I don’t like to be reminded of alleyways when I’m indoors.”
“Wh- no way dude! I already claimed this spot. Why can’t you go to the living room, or the library-?”
“Or I can take back this room. Careful. If I don’t get what I want, I could quit the team, and you’ll never have enough Masters for your little mission.”
The blue boy struggled to spit out some words before finally giving up and leaving.
--------
The sun rose and the Masters began to get ready for daily training. All of them putting on their gi, getting prepared for the day. Well, all except Morro. He didn’t have to get ready. He had the same clothes stuck on him for years. Training him was useless, seeing that he’s been fighting nearly every day of his life and after life. Today was a good day to stay inside and read whatever comic was lying on the ground.
There was a knock on his door, and Za- walked in.
“Good morning!” he greeted with a smile.
“No.”
“Training will begin soon.”
Morro rolled his eyes. Flicking his wrist, a gust of wind blew through and slammed the door shut. It wasn’t long before the door opened again. This time, it was Master Wu.
Wu didn’t say anything. He just glared at Morro until Morro groaned, threw the comic book on the floor, and exclaimed, “Fine! I don’t know how to read anyways.”
--------
Morro was forced to learn everyone’s names.
There was Cole, who pretended to have everything under control, but Morro could tell he was only a follower, not a leader. He did tell Morro that he didn’t believe in ghosts, though, so at least he’s honest. He was friends with Jay, the one that Morro was actively ignoring because he would never shut up.
Next there was Nya. Morro kept his distance after learning her element. Not that he thought she had the guts to purposely hurt anyone, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Her brother, Kai, on the other hand, was the only person Morro somewhat respected. He hated training and Jay as much as Morro did, not to mention the scar on his face implies he’s been in some tough battles.
Za- ended up being named Zane. His personality was as nerdy as his name. He was almost as annoying as Jay. Almost. The thing Morro hated most about him was the fact that he was perfect in everything he did. Perfect fighting technique, perfect cooking skills, perfect posture. Later, Morro found out that he’s a robot, so that explained a lot. He hated Zane a little less, but not as much as he hated Skylor.
She took everything sooo seriously all the time. Her element was reflection, which annoyed Morro because reflection isn’t even an element. What was even more annoying was when the two were sparring and she kept on bouncing back Morro’s wind attacks. At one point he punched her and got yelled at. It was worth it, though.
Even though Morro was with chatty Jay and android Zane, the most interesting person was Lloyd. He was the supposed “leader” of the team despite being barely taller than Jay. He was related to Wu, so he probably got brownie points for existing.
He hated Lloyd. He got to be everything Morro wanted to be once upon a time. A great leader. The most important of all Masters. The one Jago relied on. He knew Lloyd had become everything Wu wanted him to be.
He already hated being here, but every time he looked at Lloyd, the prodigy, he felt like he was punched in the gut.
It was a reminder that Morro was nothing more than a failed trial turned rebound.

Chapter Text
Lloyd sat down at the dinner table. Jay was ranting about how their new houseguest had claimed territory in his room. Everybody seemed annoyed with Morro one way or another. Lloyd was just terrified. He didn’t admit it, of course. He tried to act like the ghost didn’t intimidate him.
“Anyway,” Jay was saying, “Zane was helping me move my stuff out before dinner. He’s just finishing up right now. But I still don’t know where I’m going to sleep the rest of the summer.”
“I don’t think he likes me,” Nya chipped in. “Whenever I go near him, he goes to the other side of the room.”
Skylor shouted, “He punched me. I didn’t even think it was possible for ghosts to do that.”
“I don’t know what you guys are so worked up about. He seems fine to me,” Kai shrugged while he twirled his spoon around his fingers.
“Probably because both of you are assholes,” Cole offered. “Game recognizes game.”
Wu said, “Now, students, we must learn to be patient with Morro. There is no telling what he went through in the Departed Realm. He probably hasn’t had a friend in a long time.”
On that last word, the team’s watches went off. Zane ran in.
“There’s a bank robbery in Baransu,” he announced. “Master Wu, do you have any gi Morro can wear?”
“Only the ones the team wore on the first mission,” Wu replied, stroking his beard.
Lloyd said, “I’ll deal with Morro. The rest of you, head straight to the bank and see what we’re dealing with. We’ll meet you there as soon as possible.”
The team dispersed, all of them scrambling to get their gi on and fly out. Lloyd burst into Morro’s room and tossed him the old green gi.
“I know I wear rags, but this is insulting,” Morro sneered.
“There’s no time, Morro,” Lloyd shouted. “There’s something going on at the bank and we need to be there immediately.”
“And I have to disguise myself?” He held up the mask part. “My identity isn’t really at risk here.”
“Because it won’t take the media long to figure out what group of people is hanging out with the only ghost in Jago-”
Morro burst out laughing. “You think we’re gonna ‘hang out’?”
Lloyd clenched his fists. At first, he was scared and intimidated by Morro. Now, he was pissed. Morro didn’t take him seriously, and he wasn’t going to take him seriously unless he put his foot down. He wasn’t going to let anyone on this team forget who was in charge.
“Put. The gi. On.”
Morro’s grin vanished. Whether it was Lloyd’s change of attitude or the realization that he couldn’t mock him forever, the world would never know. But he got out of bed and started to put the gi on. He was grumbling while he did it, but at least he was doing what he was told.
Lloyd took a deep breath and walked outside. Once out the front door, he put the mask over his head. He could still see the rest of the team flying off in the distance. Morro trudged in, lazily pulling his mask over his head.
“Do you know how to summon your dragon?” Lloyd asked.
“Are you a little bitch?” Morro replied. He summoned his dragon and flew off, so Lloyd assumed the answer was yes.
Joining him in the sky, Lloyd spoke into his watch, “We’re right behind you guys. Any updates?”
“The Sons of Garmadon are the ones robbing the bank,” Nya replied over the comm. “Not sure why they’re not hitting a warehouse like they usually do.”
“Copy. See you soon.”
Lloyd and Morro flew in silence for a few moments. Lloyd glanced over Morro’s dragon. It was skeletal, and any part that was missing skin was replaced with glowing green fog. It didn’t look like a very happy dragon, either.
“So,” Lloyd clicked his tongue, “do you have any questions? You haven’t been here for... awhile.”
“Evil demon guy has a cult. What else do I need to know?”
Lloyd huffed. “You don’t have to be distant, you know. We’re all family here.” Morro let out a short laugh. “Why do you have to be like that? I know you’ve been dead, but don’t you remember being with family? Being happy?”
“No,” Morro snapped, “as I matter of fact I don’t.”
It had dawned on Lloyd that Morro was practically adopted by Wu. Either he was disowned or an orphan. Either way, Lloyd messed up, and probably pushed Morro further away.
“Sorry,” Lloyd blurted. Morro didn’t respond.
--------
They finally caught up with the rest of the team at the bank. The police were already there, which was a first.
“We have the area surrounded!” the police commissioner shouted into a megaphone. “Step out of the building!”
Lloyd landed his dragon and stood with the others.
“The Sons of Garmadon aren’t leaving the bank,” Kai informed Lloyd. “The cops don’t want us to go in because then it ‘wouldn’t be a surprise’.”
Cole groaned. “It would’ve been a surprise if the entire law enforcement of Baransu didn’t all show up at once.”
“So what are we supposed to do?” Lloyd questioned.
Skylor said, “Zane’s studying the layout of the bank to try to see if there’s a way we can get in, but the police are insisting that we wait it out.”
“Of course you would listen to the cops,” Morro scoffed.
“Oh. You’re here.”
“He’s here because he’s a part of the team,” Lloyd cautiously reminded them, “just like the rest of us. I’m gonna talk to the commissioner to see if I can change his mind. Please don’t cut off each other’s heads while I’m gone.”
Lloyd sighed as he made his way to the commissioner. The mission has barely started and it was already an utter failure. He knew it took him a while to get Morro out the door, but he didn’t realize it would take so long that the police would beat them. Law enforcement usually didn’t show up until the end.
“Mr. Commissioner, sir?” Lloyd said. “I know you want to stakeout for the culprits, but my team and I really want to be able to stop the Sons of Garmadon as soon as possible and-”
“Listen boy,” the commissioner interrupted. “You may have all your fancy schmancy powers, but I’ve been in the crime fighting business before you were born. Probably. You just need to trust the experts on this one.” He chuckled and winked like they were having friendly banter at work rather than waiting for cult members to exit a bank.
“But-”
“Uh, Green?” Jay ran up to him.
“Not now… Blue.” Lloyd had never used nicknames while on a mission before. It felt weird.
“I just thought I’d let you know that our newest ‘member’ just flew himself to the roof of the bank.”
“WHAT?” Lloyd jerked his head to the top of the bank. Sure enough, Morro was right there.
The commissioner ticked his tongue. “Weird. I didn’t even see him summon a dragon to get up there.”
“He’s stealthy,” Jay excused.
Lloyd ran straight to the rest of the team, Jay following quickly behind.
“What happened?” Lloyd exclaimed.
“Morro asked me if I had come up with anything,” Zane explained. “I thought he was genuinely interested, but as soon as I mentioned the roof, he ran off.”
“So the roof is the best way to deal with the Sons?”
“No. He left before I finished, but I was going to tell him that the roof is the worst option for a sneak attack.”
“Great. Alright team, let’s go.” Without missing a beat, the seven Masters summoned their dragons and flew straight to the roof.
“Wait!” the commissioner shouted. “Just what do you think you’re doing?”
Lloyd landed on the roof. Morro was by the overhead windows opening one of the panels. “Morro!” he whisper-shouted. “What are you doing?”
“Tin can said the roof was the best place for an ambush, so I’m on the roof,” he sneered. “I was ‘communicating with my peers’. I thought that’s what you wanted.” He rolled his eyes.
Zane spoke up. “Actually, you left before I could finish. I said-”
“I don’t care.”
“You idiot!” Nya scolded. “This is the worst place to be. You’re gonna get us killed.”
“I’m already dead.” Morro drew out two knives and fell backwards through the panel. Lloyd ran to the edge and looked inside.
The Sons of Garmadon that were inside had heard them and had their weapons pointed at the Morro that was about to crash headfirst into the floor. Right before he landed, Morro spun, releasing a huge gust of wind that allowed him to land safely on his feet while making the Sons lose their balance. Morro threw one of his knives. It pierced the shirt of one of the bikers and pinned them to the wall. With the other, he blocked an attack after a biker charged at him with a crowbar. He twisted the weapon out of the biker’s grip, and then twisted their wrist.
Two of the bikers were already down and Morro was the only one down there. Lloyd had never seen something like that be done so quickly.
“There’s only three guys left,” Kai said. “Let’s go.” With that, the rest of them jumped down, weapons drawn. Beating the rest of the bikers and getting the money they stole took mere minutes. With Morro wiping out the first two with such ease, the task was easy- almost too easy.
There was only one biker left- Luke. The Son of Garmadon with hair like a punk teenage rebel even though he looked middle aged. Lloyd slowly backed him into a corner. Luke smirked.
“Having fun playing cops and robbers?” he taunted.
“Where else would I be?” Lloyd scoffed.
Luke laughed. “Maybe the Jade Palace? I heard it’s beautiful this time of year.”
Before Lloyd could question what he just said, a quick flash of electricity stunned Luke, knocking him out cold. Lloyd gave him a weird look before going to the entrance.
Kai kicked down the door. “Ladies and gentlecops, they’re all yours.” He gestured for the police to come in as he held the door open. Lloyd went outside.
“Well, Mr. Energy, as mad as I am about you and your friends disobeying my orders… good job,” said the commissioner.
“Thank you, but we couldn’t have done it without the Master of Wind.” Lloyd looked back at Morro. He was looking around cautiously.
“There’s another one?” the commissioner exclaimed. He grumbled something to himself as he walked off.
Lloyd turned to his friends. “Good job tonight, team. Let’s head back to the temple.” He walked over to Morro, who was still looking lost. “Hey. Sorry for getting mad at you earlier. That fight worked out better than I-”
“Shut up.”
Lloyd furrowed his brow. “Wh- I was trying to pay you a compliment here-!
“No, I mean shut up because I’m thinking.” Morro stared at the bank for a few moments before reverting his gaze to Lloyd. “Yeah. This is bad.”
“Bad? But we stopped the bad guys.”
“They hardly took anything. They weren’t armed well and they were small in number without an efficient escape plan.”
Though Morro wouldn’t have known, it was odd that there were only a handful of bikers. The only time they had to deal with small numbers before was when they were fighting the most dangerous people in the Sons of Garmadon. But these people were nobodies. The most significant person there was Luke, who strangely mentioned the…
The dots connected in Lloyd’s mind.
“This was a distraction,” he realized. “We need to get to the Jade Palace. Now.”

Chapter 4: III-
Chapter Text
Lloyd sprinted to summon his dragon and turned on his BorgWatch.
“Pick up!” he shouted. “Do not return to the temple, I repeat: do not return to the temple. This is a code red!”
“Since when do we have codes?” Kai’s voice responded.
“The robbery was a distraction. The rest of the Sons are at the Jade Palace. We need to get there immediately.” Lloyd put down his wrist and turned his attention to flying as fast as he possibly could. His heart was pounding in his chest. He could only hope that he would make it before something disastrous happened.
He turned his head to see how far behind the rest of the team was. Everyone- including Morro- was right behind him.
Lloyd flew lower as they approached the palace for a closer look.
“Look!” Cole exclaimed from his dragon. “Bikers at eight o’clock.” They were surrounding the grand stairs leading to the palace’s entrance. When Lloyd looked closer, he saw the palace guards and patrol bots on the ground, passed out.
Skylor spoke up, “I see Killow on the balcony with one other guy. There’s definitely gotta be more bikers inside.”
“Skylor, Kai, Nya, and Cole, you go inside and get the royal family. The rest of us will deal with Killow,” Lloyd ordered. They went their separate ways and Lloyd, Zane, Jay, and Morro landed on the balcony.
“Great,” Killow grumbled. “Luke failed at his job again .” The Masters hadn’t seen Killow since they defused the bomb under the palace. This time, they had gallons of gasoline and matches. Lloyd prayed Kai won’t have to use his powers.
“Glad to see you again,” Jay said sarcastically. “Hey, remember when I electrocuted you and you lost the fight?”
“I don’t care.”
Lloyd drew his sword. “You won’t get away with this. We stopped you from blowing the palace up, and we’ll stop you from burning it down.”
“Will you?” Killow cracked his knuckles. “Mr. E? You can light that match now.”
Zane charged at Mr. E before he could light the match. With him distracted, Lloyd and Jay went after Killow. Lloyd recognized Mr. E from the night he and Kai snuck out. They were never sure if the man in all black with a biker helmet was the Quiet One that the Sons kept talking about, but now they knew their answer.
Killow threw a punch that Jay quickly dodged by jumping up and getting behind him. While Jay wrapped his nunchucks around his neck, Lloyd used his power to knock Killow back as far as he could.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t very far. Killow was pushed back three feet tops. The giant grabbed the chain of Jay’s nunchucks and yanked him off, hurling him to the ground.
Jay choked. “I’m gonna- HRMPH- oh my Saisho I’m gonna vomit.”
“Blue!” Lloyd cried out.
While he was distracted, Killow managed to trap him in a headlock. He was forced to drop his swords so he could use his free hands trying to break free.
He desperately looked around. Jay was still on the floor, Zane was barely getting by fighting off Mr. E., and Morro was…
“Why are you just standing there?” Lloyd shouted. “Help us!”
Morro eyed Killow up and down. “I suppose I would be up for a rematch.”
“Rematch? What do you-?” Killow gave Lloyd one last squeeze before dropping him.
“You must be mistaken, little boy,” Killow teased. “If you picked a fight with me before, you’d be dead.”
Morro held back a laugh. He crossed his arms in a “X” before bringing them to his sides, and knives appeared in his hands out of thin air.
“Look familiar?” he asked.
Lloyd thought back to their first fight with Killow and how they found that nasty scar on his chest.
“That was you?” Lloyd said- or rather squeaked as he tried to catch his breath.
“That was you ,” Killow snarled. He charged at Morro, nearly squashing Lloyd in the process. While he was distracted, Lloyd went to Jay’s side.
“Hey, pal, are you good to get up?” Lloyd asked.
Jay looked up, his face greener than Lloyd’s uniform. “Never been better.”
“Come on, we need to help-”
Before he could finish, a shuriken flew dangerously close by. He and Jay looked over at the direction it came from.
Zane was on a higher part of the roof still battling Mr. E. He looked to be in bad shape, which was saying something considering it was Zane.
“Let’s go!” Lloyd exclaimed. He helped Jay up to his feet and the two began running towards the Ice Master. They both froze, however, when Mr. E took out another match. Zane stopped where he was, too.
Mr. E didn’t say anything, but Lloyd knew exactly what was at stake. Any of them try to move any closer, and he drops the match, lighting the entire gasoline drenched roof on fire. Morro was still on the other side of the roof brawling with Killow. They had reached a stalemate.
“I hope the others are having better luck than us,” whispered Jay.
Chapter 5: IV-Kai-IV
Notes:
Sorry for forgetting to update yesterday. A lot has been going on recently and it totally slipped my mind
Chapter Text
Kai, Nya, Cole, and Skylor were not having any better luck.
The Sons of Garmadon had already infiltrated the inside of the palace. Most of the goons were easy to get rid of. The one that was giving them the hardest time, though, was Ultra Violet.
Kai was not happy to see her again. During their last encounter, she tried to slice his eye out. And for what? Even then, he wasn’t in his gear. To her, she attacked a random civilian. He wasn’t even a threat! She had absolutely no reason to-
“Red, on your left!” Skylor called out.
Kai jumped back in time to see a blade fly right past his face. He looked in the direction it came from- Ultra Violet.
“Again?” he cried. “Seriously?”
“Where are the Royals?” Nya demanded, pointing her spear.
Ultra Violet sneered. “Hiding. But we’ll find them…” she grinned. “If we don’t smoke them out, we’ll find their corpses.”
“Smoke them out?” repeated Cole. “What do you mean?”
UV didn’t answer. More bikers showed up behind her brandishing shiny, blunt-enforcing weapons. Kai knew what was going to happen next.
In the blink of an eye, the Masters were toe to toe with the Sons of Garmadon. As fate would have it, Kai was the unlucky bastard to end up with UV. Of course.
Sword hit knife. Kai kept on deflecting attacks. Ultra Violet fought like an animal. If he lost focus for even a second, he’d become a Kai shish kabob. He wanted to use his fire power, but he was never able to put enough distance between him and Ultra Violet to be able to summon a flame.
Finally, Kai was able to knock her back far enough. Fire erupted in his palm.
“Wait!” Skylor screamed. “Put that fire out! Or the building is gonna-”
The roof shuddered, making the whole building shake. Everyone froze.
Kai waved the fire in his hand away. “That wasn’t me.”
The window facing the outside shattered. Kai had to step back because somebody was being thrown through.
Zane crash landed on the floor, followed by somebody in all black wearing a biker helmet. Mr. E.
The Ice Master stumbled up and continued to fight. Lloyd and Jay hopped in through the window, looking panicked.
“Where’s M- I mean, Wind?” Kai asked.
“Uh… he’s holding up,” Jay responded, his voice shaky. “We have a slightly bigger issue, though.”
“They brought gasoline,” Lloyd explained. “It’s only a matter of seconds before the whole palace burns down.”
Ultra Violet cackled from down the hall.
Cole wondered aloud, “Can’t Ice freeze it over?”
“A little busy at the moment!” Zane called out while attempting to put Mr. E. in a headlock.
“I’ll help him out,” Skylor offered.
“I can use my water to put the fire out,” Nya said.
Lloyd nodded. “Perfect. Kai, you come with us and try to control the fire the best you can. Black, Blue, you think you can handle the rest of them?”
Cole cracked his knuckles. “With pleasure.”
Kai and Nya ran out, but not before kicking back a Son that tried to get one last hit out of them.
On the roof, he didn’t realize how much fire had already spread because he was standing in it. Being the Master of Fire made him completely resistant to it.
He took a deep breath and extended his arms out. When he moved his arm, the flames moved with it. A few flames were harder to move than others, but eventually he was able to tug all of it in one place. His muscles tensed. Herding the blaze wasn’t the hardest thing he’s ever done, but it didn’t make it any less exhausting.
“Any time would be good, sis!” he shouted.
“On it!” Nya hollered back. She had summoned her dragon and was working on a huge bubble of water, about as tall as her. She moved it over Kai. Water sprinkled down on the fire.
“Why is this taking so long?” Kai complained. “Do you want the palace to burn down?”
Nya raised an eyebrow. Then she dropped her arms. The water fell, which put the rest of the fire out, but drenched Kai in the process.
“Better?” she asked sarcastically.
“Yeah, yeah, that was funny. You’re a real comedian, you know that?”
Nya laughed as she flew down. In the distance, Kai saw police cars approaching the palace. It was about time.
“You’re wet,” a voice behind him said. Kai turned around.
It was Morro. He was almost invisible during the night. His uniform was the only reason Kai was able to see him right away. That, and the fact he was floating. His feet hovered over the puddles of water, almost as if he was afraid to touch it.
“Nya,” Kai briefly explained. “What happened with you?”
“Threw the big one off the roof,” Morro said nonchalantly.
Kai’s eyes went wide. “You fought Killow? Do you have him tied up somewhere.”
“Oh, no. He disappeared after I threw him off the roof. He was probably too afraid to face me again.”
“Orrr he ran away so he wouldn’t get arrested.”
Morro shrugged. “Sure.”
